SFV Character Request/Anticipation Thread

If Decapre gets in they’d need to really change up her style and give her completely new normal attacks. Her specials were cool, but over all, she looked and seemed a lot like Cammy.

Doesn’t make sense. How would they keep the hype up until the game comes out in March, then, if they’d have nothing left to announce roster wise?

Thats because her moves list is heavily inspired from Juni in Alpha 3. Charge version of Cammy with aerial specials.

Dlc characters, single player content reveals, online modes, more in depth on the fight money system and things you can use it for… There are a ton of ways to keep the hype for a whole three months.

Yall didn’t play Killer Instinct. They’ll find a way

Times have changed drastically, the anti-shoto movement is staggering. more ways to use a fireball would be nice. remove ken’s and give his feet the midas touch. flaming fireball kick—…oh wait that’s what they made juri for.

DLC characters, OK, but everything else you have listed is not hype material, it’s more something for panel at conventions or game expos

Shotos are frequent because they’re balanced and fun game designs. I play Akuma so I’m biased, but the shoto hate feels overboard. People hate Ken and Akuma when they both play basically nothing like each other outside of having a fireball and a dp. Sakura plays NOTHING like Akuma yet they’re both hated because they’re “shotos”.

People hate Oni because he’s a “shoto” yet he plays nothing like Ryu outside of having those three movies. Can’t zone like Ryu. Can’t play footsies like Ryu. Hits way harder and is much slower than Akuma, etc.

Akuma is definitely more than popular enough to make the roster so hopefully people crying about him doesn’t make Capcom do something wild. I also think the popularity of the characters makes people overly resentful. Ryu Ken and Akuma are always near the top of the most played list in any SF.

True until they find another player that’s top tier like vanilla Sagat and Yun from SF4. I think most of the hate stems from a misunderstanding during a Combofiend interview where he stated there were going to be no more clones in SFV,then came Ken…

I’m still hype to learn about the story. I’m 90% sure that Birdie and Nash are henchmen.

has anyone got the nash comic yet?

Again 16 characters at launch. With 16 there is no excuse to not make the roster as diverse as possible. Ken and Ryu are already in, 2 shotos, more than enough…for now. Now in future DLC that is another conversation, but the initial roster? Street fighter has a ton of interesting characters that have nothing in common with Ryu or Ken. This is why Akuma, Sakura, any other shoto would be unacceptable for the initial roster. Spots are limited.

Personally from the ken thing I think they are going to do more to differentiate visually the different moves. Also make v-skill’s be different enough their core gameplan doesn’t look as similar when they play. Ken playing right now doesn’t look like Ryu playing because the animations of what they are doing are very different even though really only his roundhouse hurricane and air ex hurricane have changed.

I expect more shoto’s, but for us to get more of this change an animation or two so they don’t appear to all be a different flavor of Ryu. Fuck give me CvS2 sakura, chick didn’t play like any shoto and other than having a head band like ryu was NOTHING like a shoto.

what’s the chances that sf5 follows soul calibre, sfxt, mk9/x and k.i and introduces the ‘guest’ characters? i really hope not.

OH GOD PLEASE NO

Oni does a plenty of crMK(or other normals) xx Fireball buffer for footsies. His normals other than sHP and F+HP are shared by at least one other shoto in some form. Being a shoto is a culmination of specials and normals for the most part, not JUST if they play like Ryu.

Combofiend never said there would be NO clones he said

Shy away isn’t a hard “no” it means a reduction of clone aspects or clone characters.

I think what Capcom is doing is making sure that even if they do add “shotos” or “Cammy clones” or any character archetype that is fundamentally similar, that they do change them up as fundamentally as possible so they feel as different as they can.

The nice thing about shotos compared to say pre MKX ninjas is that shotos have at least always had unique normals and specials. Their general basic special move set and gameplan doesn’t differ as much as say Guile’s vs Guy’s does, but enough where each of them have their own feel. They may all be capable of throws hurricane kicks and c.MK, but exactly when they do it tends to be a bit different.

It’s just now with SFV Capcom can do things to make sure each shoto feels wildly different from one another instead of just normally different. Which I think is a good thing. There’s more of a difference between Ryu and Ken than there has ever been, pretty much ever. The fact that Ryu’s V Skill is an actual parry as opposed to Ken’s which is mostly an offensive run or step kick makes them completely different characters just on that alone. Further differentiating them is that those are both skills that no other character has. Ryu’s fireballs now cause guard crush when in V Trigger and Ken has different properties and visuals for each strength of tatsu. They change gameplans to a large degree in different ways both in their V Skill and V Triggers alone.

If they do the same thing with Akuma and Sakura if they ever make it they are going in the right direction. Akuma and Sakura should both have things that make people go “wow this character hasn’t had this before” and something that really shifts their play style and differentiates how you approach them while still being the character in a basic sense.

In most of the games Ken/Ryu/Akuma were A LOT more similar in terms of normals/specials. Generally speaking they’d have like 75-85% of their normals/specials be the same in terms of animation/mechanics. They might differ in frame data and might have a couple of their own things but in GENERAL they had the same stuff. It was different enough to matter outside of casual level play but similar enough that to that said casual they were almost identical if you get my drift.

To joe shmoe Ken/Akuma/Ryu were basically the same character in SF3. To a halfway decent player the effectiveness of each and some of the options they had were miles apart. In SF4 each one of them has notably different options with how their tatsus work. Ken’s doesn’t knockdown but first hit forces stand, Ryu’s is a 1 hit tatsu no matter which strength and can’t hit crouching, Akuma’s juggles and knocksdown and gives a free juggle with LK Tatsu. However they are all a tatsumaki forward moving hurricane spin kick and visually the same or nearly the same.

The point is the character has to fit the universe.
Soul Calibure has always swordfighters as guests,MK gore and violence heavy characters.

I honestly see no one who would fit into SF,outside of KoF characters and maybe some Tekken Chars.
