SFV Character Request/Anticipation Thread

Fei Long is Jeet Kune do

I think Karin and Sakura will be introduced together if they are both going to eventually being in the game. I think Karin, Sakura, Mika is much more likely than dropping Alpha’s most requested and popular character. I really would rather Sakura not be in the game though, shoto you know.

Fun fact: there’s one guy who said that Sakura isn’t a shoto because her moves are named differently and function differently compared to Ryu. I can’t even tell if he was joking or not, though seemed serious in the opinion

But if we get an Adult Sakura with her own less or completely non-shoto play style, I’d be down for her completely.

I just want Rose in because I want to see her long overdue SF3 remake and I think she would fit into the V system perfectly.

Probably serious, the what is a shoto? argument comes up sometimes. I define shoto as an archetype consisting of a projectile, DP, and forward moving kick attack. It’s an archetype like grappler or pixie or whatever.

I love Rose, but we did have her in SFIV. Sakura, I’ll be honest I never cared for at all, however she has the 3 signature shoto moves albeit in altered form. Even though Ken differs greatly from Ryu in SFV, he is still much closer to him than any other character. They could do a lot with Sakura, but it is likely those 3 shoto specials would appear in some form. Kind of a waste, when we only have 16 spots for the opening roster.

Karin on the other hand, still no Rekka character. She also hasn’t appeared in a super long time, I think it is very important she finally makes her return and deserves a spot on the initial 16 person roster.

Soul Satelite as her V-Trigger maybe? Give her 3 V-gauge bars so it wouldn’t get too OP

I also feel like the Rekka achetype isn’t popular in fighting games that much. Like, how much of those we have? Jam and Leo in Guilty Gear, Bang in BlazBlue, 3-4 chars in KOF, Karin and Fei Long in SF, and I think that’s it. Wish it would be more represented

Sakura is less of a shoto than sagat is. Wtf

No fuck that.

Bring back SOUL ILLUSION! And make them illusions look psychedelic and trippy instead of basic ass shadows.

Uh…so are you agreeing with him or…?

Do you mind enlightening me how that super works?

It’s a lot like Yang’s Seiei Enbu at it’s most basic aspects. There are quirks about beyond that, it builds stun damage and has some unblockable setups. I think there is other stuff too.

Yang , Poison, Abel(?). But counting all of them, we only have 5 rekka archtypes in SF. Damn I thought there was at least a couple more…

Rolento (Patriot Circle) and Elena (Spin Scythe) also have Rekkas. Yes, the archetype is not very well represented in SF, with few characters having them and the only ones with variable Rekkas being Karin and Abel. On the topic of input simplification, do you guys think they will go with the Abel approach (only the qcf for the initial attack and being able to do the followup Rekkas with Forward + P) for new/returning Rekka characters in SFV?

There’s a bunch of rekka characters in varying degrees if you snoop around in various games. Sometimes the idea of move extensions is so commonplace that you don’t really need to go out of your way to make a traditional rekka character. And rekkas don’t mean as much in a chain-heavy game as they do in SF.

I guess the definition of a rekka or of a rekka character is uncertain. I feel like if you call any move with a followup (spin scythe) a rekka, though, you’d have to use that term for half the SFxT cast.

In my head, in the same way as Gadoken is the lower limit of a fireball, Abel’s CoD is the lower limit of a rekka. Sure, technically it has rekka properties, but you don’t really use it like one.

If Karin is in then she needs to have the simple followup inputs out of necessity. Other characters can go either way, but since they didn’t mind bringing back QCFx2 for supers, I would guess they’d keep regular rekkas as is. (Maybe I’m trying not to get my hopes up.)

4 Returning characters left! My personal “too-good-to-happen” list:
-Urien [God damn do I love the character! My 3s main and all-around badass!]
-Juri [SF4 main, cool concept]
-Sakura [Really want to see where they would take her in this game. After what everyone outside Ryu/Chun/Cammy got, I’m 100% sure she’s finally getting her long overdue redesign.]
-Alex [Now we get the union of the main protagonists of Street Fighter! 1=Ryu, Alpha=Nash, 2=Chun, and 3=Alex]

Chun Li was the main protagonist of SF2? what?

Chun main protagonist of SF2? No way,she was one of the main protagonists in SFIV,but not in 2,that was Ryu and Ryu didn’t even reached the final.

So 4 spots for returning ones.
I think we will get:
-Alex
-Abel (completly different from his SFIV incarnation, cause he is the reason Alex wasn’t in SFIV)
-A Doll ( Because no one would see that coming. And I would like to see Juni as a Grappler)
-Rolento ( Basicly another character nobody has on his radar)

Omega abel

I feel like apart from the popular choice of alex, urien, karin an co, I’m the only one that really wants to see necro come back. Where’s the love for him :frowning:

No. That was Ryu. Ryu will always be the main protagonist. Even in SF3, Alex eventually became Ryu’s bitch in 3S. Based on story, Chun-Li would be #2 in the series IMO. Ken is like the Robin to Ryu’s Batman, but Chun-Li, she’s fucking Wonder Woman.

I wouldn’t mind him.

Problem is that no one has fond memories of Necro. He isn’t a bad design, but his only unique quality is the range on his command throw. Everything else is ripped from a much more popular character, so he doesn’t get credit for a majority of his moveset. On top of that, people find his whole “opera singer” persona annoying as hell and care even less about him. Of the 3rd Strike cast, he’s probably the least wanted after Remy and on par with 12, the butt monkey of the 3S community.
