By that logic then Nash is actually a triplet with Chun-Li and Ryu since he was pretty blatantly teased with them. Way more than the tease for Necalli.
A color-coded slide that has all newcomers positioned horizontally, all returning veterans (not in SF4 or SF2) in another row horizontally, Ryu and Ken besides each other.
The characters aren’t randomly placed there.
Yeah thought about that, too. But since the characters really are sorted in the power point slide it’s not relevant.
Also the current positions of the characters in the character select screen could change for the final release.
What proof you have that besides the color coded boxes, that the characters within the boxes are not just positioned there? Because Ryu and Ken are next to each other?
The current positions in the power point slide could change before final release.
Just kidding, they won’t because those positions and that slide don’t really matter in the long run. The only truly significant meaning we can objectively/accurately derive from that slide is that there will be 8 green characters, 4 blue, and 4 purple. Nothing else.
Yes green is very likely to be SF2 characters. Blue is 50/50 (literally) whether it means Alpha or Everyone Who Wasn’t In SF2.
Nah because Nash wasn’t teased till a little while after Ryu / Chun were shown. I was actually at Capcom Cup when they teased Nash with the updated version of the original trailer they had released about 2 weeks earlier, everyone freaked the hell out when Nash came on the screen. It was awesome.
Not arguing that it’s just another guess. Just can’t see Guile not being in SF5. Could still be DLC though and Gief&Sim in from the start.
Looking forward to see whose guess will have been the most accurate in the end.
This is not hollywood or other none-canon stuff, next time you try to say me Lucia can easily replace Chun Li.
I asked a friend last day, “would you prefer Zangief or Haggar” his answer was “Haggar? who is this?” he is 35 and played since SF2 in arcades and he can’t even remember Haggar.
Stop argue with the shit movies and cartoons, that’s ridiculous. Do you want Cornflakes Sagat in SF5 because it’s cartoon-canon? or Bison should scream YESH YESH after he wins a battle?
Here are some characters of the world popularity ranking:
Ken - 2/67
Sakura - 6/67
R.Mika - 12/67 Zangief - 16/67
Dudley - 18/67
Blanka - 20/67
Nash - 24/67
Guy - 26/67
Ingrid - 29/67 Haggar - 76/67 (you had the option “other characters”)
If I would argue like you I would say: Who was in Wreck it Ralph? Guile? Blanka? Deejay? Haggar? oh no, it was ChunLi,Cammy,Bison and** Zangief** 4 of the most popular, Iconic fighters in fu***ng gaming history.
You could’ve explained that he’s the character from which Zangief got his moves.
Haha. If he had his own entry he would’ve placed a lot higher.
Cody and Guy are fairly popular. Haggar is the only one left from the initial Final Fight cast to never appear in SF.
Was in MvC3 though and was one of the 8 characters of the cancelled Street Fighter Allstars.
It was about villains. Guile wouldn’t have made sense in that support group. (Doesn’t matter here that Gief isn’t evil in canon.)
Chun and Cammy were just cameos. Both a lot more iconic than Zangief btw.
While I agree Haggar is nowhere near Gief levels of popularity i’m also contrary to using “popularity” polls as proof for this argument as those tend to be incredibly biased and influenced by the hardcore fanbase (AKA those who would buy the game even if the roster was Ryu, Ken and 14 more generic shotos). Saying someone as obscure as Ingrid is 29th most popular SF character overall is beyond ridiculous (and if you consider the Mahvel crowd that knows the mayor of earth that’s already way more people than those who ever heard of Ingrid). Saying Karin is more popular than f**** Sagat or Guile is waaaaaaay too much of an overstatement; Maki above Dhalsim? That almost sounds like a joke. And the japanese poll is pure thrist lol, Karin 1st place, then Ryu cuz’ he’s too stonk, Cammy, Ingrid, Mika, Sakura, Chun and Juri then finally Ken and Gouki that’s like a shoto Harem hentai lineup (also Juni and Juli in the top 20 ayy lmao). And Remy jumps from 0.50% in the English poll to 5% in the japanese poll because japanese girls are still in the 90’s Iori craze. Haggar is the kind of character you don’t see people begging for online, but i’m sure it would generate hype if he was revealed, with that said i’m fine with Gief returning too as long as he gets the same redesign love other old characters have received.
That’s true, just having your name there makes a big difference (tell me with a straight face Geki and Joe are more iconic than the Shark-piledriving mayor). The interesting dynamic between Zangief and Haggar with the exchange of the piledriver and lariat could actually make a cool DLC scenario in the future.
Well Geif was hilarious in Wreck it Ralph.
Bison was the true SF villain in the meeting, Geif not so much a villain in my opinon, but it worked.
Chun and Cammy had their walking cameos.
Ryu and Ken of course were present as well.
But YUP Blanka was in it, just have to wait for the credits.
Killer Instinct finished Season 1 with just one new character and 7 returning ones (and another one just being the evil version of Jago), essentially having a ~15% ratio of new characters against the classic ones.
Season 2 finished with 5 new characters and 4 returning ones , having a ~55% ratio of new characters against the classic ones
So here’s my logic: Capcom is planning on releasing characters over the years, probably at a steady tempo of X months between each new announcement/release. And seeing how KI adopted the Season scheme and how it took off - it might just be that Capcom might adopt that as well (you can already tell they are cherry picking stuff from other Fighting Games)
What if Capcom wants to start out SF5 with familiar characters (hence we have the likes of Vega, Ryu, Bison, etc as the Core Roster) + 4 new faces, and then continue mixing up the return of come classic characters from the past games (like the ones that didn’t make it into SF4, for example) and at the same time creating a new cast like SF3?
Remember - SF3 failed financially and was, basically, a kind of “elitist” sub series because of 1) oversaturation of Fighting games on the market, 2) oversaturation of SF franchise overall across different platforms, and 3) the lack of that classic WW-level cast in SF3: New Generation
Imagine if Capcom wants to make SF3 v2 but do thing right from the start? 8 SF2 chars + 4 returning ones + 4 new faces to kick off the game’s release is a much better way than have Ryu and Ken in SF3 along with 10 entirely new faces that people didn’t accept at first (hence why SF3 didn’t really become a mainstream game)
In my world of simp logic… Vega confirms either Sim and Gief or Balrog and Sagat… no other characters will fit in that slot… I don’t know how they talke Ono into leaving Blanka out
Looking for some love for her on this thread She’s a char who has lot of potential to be explored, in addition the fact her unusual outfit (as well as her gameplay) was based on the 90’s female japanese wrestler and fits like gloves for what the SF franchise attempt to offer: plurality of fighting styles. She isn’t a random troll char at all.
(Look at the original fighters and how well done are Mika’s animations which are inspired on them)
@Fatal1ty_93_RUS I think SFV will go one step over KI and just have a constant stream of dlc. I don’t think they’ll break it up into seasons so much as just consistently bring new characters at different points of the year. Making it so there’s no break in the content and always something for the Fairweather guys to purchase.
Their diagram didn’t really show anything about seasons so it looks more like a goal of just always being in a state of content releasing like a MOBA. The content may not release as quickly as a MOBA but im thinking thats the plan.
I hope you can use the characters in training to study the match up or there’s a weekly rotation like mobas do. Otherwise you’re still forced to buy all chars.
I’m obviously in the camp of replacing Gief with Haggar, if you didn’t pick up on my bias from my name already. I love Gief, but Haggar would generate much more hype, and deserves a spot.
That’s right, the Mayor of America DESERVES a spot. He’s the most iconic Final Fight character, and five or so characters were represented before him from his game. Hugo and Poison is almost like putting a goomba/koopa troopa before Mario in Smash. (Ok, that’s a bit of a stretch, but you get my point.)
This doesn’t mean Gief wouldn’t get in eventually, but I do think this would keep the initial roster fresher. It’s time Haggar gets his much needed due.
Six of the nine confirmed characters are directly connected to the Shadowloo storyline (Chun-Li, Nash, Bison, Cammy, Birdie, Vega), Necalli is up in the air whether he is or not, and Ryu and Ken are series mascots. Balrog is nearly confirmed in my opinion with how deeply the cast is connected to the Shadowloo plot, fight money being a thing (which is awesome), and how the only games he wasn’t in that Vega was in nearly destroyed the series’ reputation (EX2 and EX3).
The last slot I think is a toss up between Sagat and Juri based on their SF4 stories respectively. Sagat has the past of being one of the four kings but was practically removed from the plot line in SF4 and his play style has been given to Ryu as the slow, hard hitting zoner. Juri has a deeper connection to Shadowloo currently and has character features in 4 that will translate better into the kind of game SF5 is turning out to be (Feng Shui V-Trigger, far more aggressive play style). I think Juri is the better candidate since she fits the bill better and the game is currently lacking a female element with only 2/9 female members.
I’m unsure of the last two blue slots, I’d guess R. Mika and Karin due to fitting the Alpha theme but Urien is pretty likely thanks to the Nash gem connection. To be honest though, Urien might be the boss character and fill one of the purple slots or be the very first DLC character.
