So…like many of you…I’ve been waiting a very long time for this game to come out. If you can believe…I reserved my copy of SFIV about a YEAR ago. When I heard about the tournament I was even more excited. Although, having the tournament only a few days after the console release kind of sucks because that means, those that have been blessed with a cabinet in their area will definitely have the upper hand.
The qualifying rounds are supposed to be played at your local Gamestops…with the top 16 receiving a 3 day/2 night trip to EVO, with a spot in the SFIV finals. Now…I’ve been waiting a while to see what the “Official Rules” were because I was curious to see what console we were going to have to play on and what type of hardware we were going to be provided with or be allowed to use. When it came to this tourny…my only real concern was, am I going to be able to use my stick???
I’ll confess that I have no tournament experience and I am new to the competitive fighting game scene as far as organized tournaments and such are concerned. So when I was reading that the qualifying rounds were going to be played on the 360 with 360 controllers, I was completely let down. I called my local gamestop and was told that they might have both consoles available to play on but we will have to use the controllers that they provide and we will have to use default controls…no adjustments!
WTF!? I don’t know how everyone else feels about this but I think this is so retarded. I mean…I KNOW YOU CAN’T PLEASE EVERYONE…BUT…I can’t play on a d-pad for shit! Especially that piece of crap 360 d-pad. If I were hosting a tournament I would not put restrictions like this in place. Reason being…I would want everyone at their full potential! It’s like winning a match against someone that has a couple buttons jammed on their side of the cabinet. Yeah you won…but did you really win? ARGH! I was soooo looking forward to this and now its like…fuck…I’m going to lose my first match because I can’t execute any moves. So gay.
So…I’m just looking for everyone’s thoughts on this. And to all you veteran tournament players…I’m interested to read what your experience has been concerning stipulations such as this.
The problem is, the scrubs at their full potential can’t even play at their full potential because they’re scrubs. The point of the GameStop tourney is ‘fun’.
I’d be okay with using a Sixaxis…its that 360 controller that makes me cringe. I have bad memories of trying to use that when Anniversary first came out on xbox.
top 16 get a trip to evo? not even i thought it was a trip to SF to duke it out
dont complain about controls its just for fun why is this thread in the playstation net work forum?
yea i can’t say im excited for this game stop hoopla considering i have a ps3 and they are having the tourny on the old in store 360 with dpads…way to show of the new joysticks i mean why would anyone want those they wouldnt buy them after or anything…i hate gamstop.
I joined, and I thank you for bringing this up, I might stop by my local gamestop tomorrow and figure out what system they will be using, I hate the 360 D-Pad, its the most horrible thig ive ever seen! Not saying I cant compete without it, considering this tourney is just for fun and doesnt consist of top notch competitive players, 16 players, most of them not good i.e, scrubs.
I have about 5 to 6 gamestops about 5 to 8 minutes away from were I live, If there is one hosting it with a PS remote, im there.
Do you guy’s know any more info regarding this tourney? i.e, prizes and such?
