It will be interesting to see what properties transfer over from moves. I have a feeling things like invincibility and perhaps speed will, but I doubt like hitstun will as other games with transfer properties (cvs 2 has the most though other games have really obscure ones) you normally can’t change the actual hitstun of a move, though I swear somewhere in my head there is a game where this does happen, I can’t think of the name and Im pretty sure its not capcom.
Mickey D, I don’t know… Ill let you know when it gets a little closer. I imagine 20 a game with the setup you talked about seems the best to me, as then if I happen to lose I won’t be out to much. But I’ll see how my bank roll is towards the end of next week. Maybe I’ll win GGXX or KOF98UM at RS and have plenty of money, who knows.
I just wanted to make a quick post about the Seattle Street Fighter 4 scene in general. Even though I know this thread is titled SF4 in Tacoma, I wanted to talk about the “new addition” being added, and I wanted to see how it affects people’s interests.
It’s apparent that Gameworks will be getting SF4 come this next few days. Now I know that this will greatly lessen the people that show up for “Sleepless in Seattle: Monday Night Fights!!!” However I wanted to know who exactly will still COME to Tacoma. ** Not only that, but Bill was even talking about tournaments**, in which I’m sure gameworks wouldn’t even allow. So who’s going to come out to Tacoma now that Seattle has it? Who will come out for a tournament?
Bill did us a huge favor and fueled Seattle with SF4 from the BEGINNING. I know it’s hard for people to come all the way down because of gas money, and it’s not like anyone else looks down at you for choosing the closer location. However this is also a genuine person who tried to help out with our scene by doing this. Seondarily, Gameworks has been infamous for doing such a shitty job as far as sticks and tech support goes. Thirdly, I look at it like…as if I’m shopping at a mom and pop grocery store, compared to other evil “Corporate America” business.
Personally, I will still be attending Narrows on Monday’s because I enjoy the people that go, and I enjoy playing the finest competition. At the same time, I will go to Gameworks on Thursday nights to get some practice in. Now as far as a tournament goes, if Narrows throws a tournament, I will DEFINITELY go. I would even promote it AT gameworks myself for others to come.
GW for Thursdays since its all i can play for $10, but Bill got us started, hard to abandon him just because GW finally decided to do something, community push not withstanding
Washington is tooo lucky, you guys are going to have two cabinets. What the hell are you guys california in disguise now?? Anyway its cool you guys get two cabinets. Personally unless like gameworks gets viewlix cabinets or something I would prefer to not have to travel the extra 30 minutes or so from portland to go there… but if the cabinet is godly might just have to.
Yeah definitely man! Do you have any time constraints as to how long you wanna stay, or when you want to go? I’ll be heading down on Monday for the weekly SS:MNF!!!
I won’t be at RS. I didn’t have a strong urge to go to it.
Rufus is very good, though a little bit basic, Im no expert in anway on all his moves (I forget the motions haha) but basically
His dive kick is amazing pressure when close, if it hits you do st.mp to the spin move. When in the corner you can tack on another spin move. If it doesn’t hit you mixup whether you’ll go low or throw or rejump, a rejump can be beat, by a mid attack, but obviously if they go low or try and throw you’ll beat that and usually hit them.
For poking cr.fp is mostly all you need, though I have seen some people use his rolling overhead kick (I think f+mk) to go under fireballs. If I remember right his sweep is okay and does things sweeps do. His cr.mp is his best anti-air and beats out pretty much everything I’vee seen used to jump on him. For stuff it doesn’t beat you can use his dp+p, which will beat things if done in anticipation of a jump.
also in footsies his kick chain st.lk, st.rh is good. If it hits you can do his multi kick move (qcf+k, hit lk for a combo mk for a low and hk for an overhead.) or his ultra or his super. Pretty buff.
I don’t know his cross up(might not have one) but I know his jump rh,rh is really good air to air, think Kyo’s upkicks in cvs2 but you do it by just jumping and rh in the air. afterwards you can connect a dp+p or an ex dp+p as well as his ultra or super.
if you get the Nonoho pdf kunai posted there is some other really general stuff in there that you can use to start your game off.
edit: forgot to mention for a reversal the ex qcf+k is all you need, people call that shit the messiah kick, its so good.
Random. I have been wondering, is Robert going to play this game? It is in 3D and has a bunch of big muscular dudes in it. I will ask him if he shows up at Zach’s tonight.
I just got done my nig. But onto some Street fighter shit…another chart from the “Master guide” regarding health and stun. I’m not sure if Mandel already posted it, if so, I can delete post.
EDIT: Mandel beat me to the punch
EDIT2: This is what I meant to put in if people are interested
Guts refers to the whole “opponent does less damage when you have less life.” So basically, when you are about 30% on health, you’ll be taking 10% less of the damage etc.
Damn. So the whole guts thing makes it hard for me to finish the fight when I use Gief. I swear the majority’ of my matches were always close but I never pull through because I get desperate.
I must admit that my initial post about Gameworks getting SFIV was kind of a knee-jerk reaction. I was just excited that there would be a cabinet much closer to where I live. Like you said though, Gameworks doesn’t exactly have the best arcade maintenance in the world…half broken taiko sticks for their Taiko no Tatsujin machine come to mind, and I’ve been hearing that their VF5 cabinet’s been having issues.
You better believe that the gang and I will probably go to Narrows again once the SFIV sticks at Gameworks break, and the staff refuse to do anything about it. I’ve got nothing but the utmost respect for Bill; I can’t thank him enough for being the first to bring SFIV to the northwest. Narrows is a great place; it’s too bad that it’s so far away from where I live. I can only dream that a place up north could have something as awesome as Narrows (Funtasia, I’m looking at you). I’ve been without a job for two months, so money’s been very tight for me…I usually wouldn’t mind paying the extra money for gas, but it’s been hurting my wallet lately.
I must admit though, I do enjoy the “homely” atmosphere at Narrows. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more scrubtacular matches over at Gameworks, and more annoying people (no one who posts here, of course) now that the word is out. I don’t even want to think about how long the lines will be for SFIV. For those reasons alone, I’d be willing to go to Narrows. Whenever Narrows has that SFIV tourney, I’ll most definitely be going.
I’d like to go to Narrows on Monday one of these days, but transportation would be an issue for me. I usually carpool with Billy and Gene, but both of them work that day.
Hi James! Thanks for chipping in your 2 cents. I understand and appreciate what your saying about distance/gas conservation. It’s good to hear that your still willing to come down to Narrows every once in awhile.
I’m definitely going to have to make it up on Saturday’s to play with your gang of people, I hear that Billy is fire in that game! Will you be making it up next saturday (following week)? I should be there for the whole grudge match that I have with Ross.
Yeah, Billy’s been beasting…had 15 wins with Ken last week, and I believe he had 12 wins each with Boxer and Chun. We pretty much go every Saturday. We’ll be stopping by this coming Sat after the Portland tourney. I guess I’ll see you next Sat? Looking forward to your grudge match with Ross! Haha.
Me personally I will go to both places on a regular. Just depends on how I feel that day and who is where at what time.
I got the number to the guy who owns the Sf4 machine at narrows, Im planin on calling him today to see if I can start organzing Tourneys for SF4 ASAP. If he is as cool as everyone says he is, then hopefully we can be having our first tourney the following weekend.
As for Seattle SF4, i mean its mainly good so that people in seattle can have fast access to SF4. I still see the majority of the tourneys being at Narrows cause dealing with a corperate owned Arcade is just lame and will get us nowhere fast.
I’ll still be representin at Narrows, as it’s considerably closer to my house than GW is. I’ll still be heading out there every Monday. We’ll see what’s up with GW when I find a different job.
