Excellent, thank you very much.
Bill, I will be back ASAP to try out with the new sticks.
Just wondering but would it be possible to change the layout a bit? The buttons are pretty far from the stick.
Even though I haven’t had a chance to play at the Narrows for SFIV yet, I think it’s really cool that you’re coming to a site like SRK to communicate with this small group of diehards, Bill. Thanks for being such a cool guy for the gamers, man. Gameworks could take a lesson or two from you
And like I said it won’t make a difference unless they’re showing up to play at times when nobody else is, like when people work or when school’s in or whatever, which rarely happens. No matter who does it, it only has to be a constant stream of people continuing. That’s why hardcores are fine.
I mean look at that shit, 7 minutes per match? That’d be little more than $4 an hour if the game was 50 cents. Even assuming constant play for 13 hours, 7 days a week (which is impossible really), that doesn’t even come close to 500-600 a week. And then there’s the casuals who want to practice with trial mode or beginner mode because they don’t have to fight the other guy, which slows down the profit even more.
You’ve missed the point. I already know he’s not going to do it, and if he did nobody would buy into it. But logically it’s one way to make more money off the game. Lowering the price is not.
I wish we could have done the layout better. In fact, we were hoping to get the help of a local gamer with laying out the control panel. The day the kits arrived, I phoned a guy named Robert who had called previously to check status of the games arrival. We invited him down to assist our techs with the layout and get his input on what a perfect layout would be. Long story short, he phoned back several times as he was getting lost trying to find our shop, and finally gave up. I wish he could have found us! As it stands, the panels would have to be completely stripped, holes filled, and started over which would be a big undertaking. I am hoping people will adjust, as some seem to be? If nobody likes these sticks, we have some Japanese sanywa’s, the factory sticks for Tekken 5 we could slap in there.
We have always tried to stay in touch with the player community. That is how we most often discover machine problems. You see, if you go the desk at narrows and report a small problem, they have to relay that information to us. That communication easily breaks down. We learn more about problems through the message boards. Haha, makes me think of the Initial D games at Lameworks that have never worked right since new. A simple 3 minute fix. We had the same issues with ours, but learned of the issue and corrected within the first 24 hours of the machine arriving. message boards are the shitz for gathering machine status info for us. And getting the machine fixed has always been a big concern for us.
Hey Bill, here are some recommended layouts for fighting games, you can use these to drill the holes for the sticks and buttons to a standard layout:

As-is, I actually don’t mind the buttons at all, and don’t mind their layout (the curve is japanese style), the only problem I had was with how far apart the buttons were from the stick, and also the 1player stick (which has since been replaced to a competition?) was pretty bad.
As-is I can live with the layout if the sticks are competitions, and I’ll definitely be back to play.
I DEFINITELY wouldn’t mind sanwas in there, IF (big IF!) it is on a standard Japanese layout, not some homemade one. I recommend the astro city layout, or the viewlix layout. The viewlix is what SF4 was played on with Sanwa controls at evo, and it was absolutely PERFECT, no one complained. With how much money you guys spent on the cabinet already, why not get the perfect controls for a bit more? :karate:
^^Pleeease. I think the button layout is fine, but I think the Japanese buttons are better. If you just fixed that and the spacing between the stick and the buttons it would be perfect. The screen looks so much better, thanks for fixing that.:china:
Maybe you could swap the buttons out for the tekken buttons? unless you did that already. I hope to come up and play soon. I get payed in september so I’ll bring some good money.
So I just played today for the first time today, and I had an AMAZING time. I stayed at the arcade from 1pm till about 6. I got some great matches in, and I feel great that we have this game here. Like most, I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in regarding the sticks/layout.

The sticks: Right now, these sticks that are in (the competition’s i presume) are a pain in the ass to play on. Don’t get me wrong, from what I understand, it’s a huge upgrade from what I understand since last week…However I’m still kinda unsatisfied. Sanwa sticks or P360 sticks would do amazing wonders, and I feel as if would enhance the player’s experience. Right now with these sticks (maybe i’m spoiled and i’m just whining), A LOT of commands aren’t coming out like they should be, such as dragon punches and supers.

Button layout: From what I understood today, previously the cabinet had concave buttons, and now they are convex, which is a HUGE improvement. However, as many people have said, it feels so weird to have the stick so far away from the buttons.
The monitors looked BEAUTIFUL in my opinion, and I will definitely be going down with a friend every tuesday to get some practice in.
I’ll talk about strats and all later
You don’t get mad that my brother beat you last night with Chun-Li’s jumping FP and ducking FP
actually my brother is playing SF4 before me?!?!?!?!:tup:
I don’t think he did… did he? Anyway he’s not bad, lol.
I’ve only been to Narrows once & that was to play SFIV. It was a pleasant experience despite the $1 per game. I think $1 is ok right now cuz its new… $10 would probably last me 2hrs which is like watching a movie…Anyway, I thought the controllers were fine, the screen looked a little off but then again i haven’t been to the arcades in years…I think SFIV is going to bring back a lot of the old school players…Why not put a Super Street Fighter Turbo or SF2 Hyper Fighting machine in there…
I’m gonna be going down on Friday night…Would anyone near me like a ride?
I live in North Seattle, so I’d be cool with picking up people south of me…also preferablly people I would know…
Brent?
Im curious when is the best time go go there & what day?
I’m gunna hate it when I move back. Everyone is going to be fucking beastly and I am going to be shit tier.
Not just in SFIV either. In EVERY GAME. I haven’t played anyone seriously in almost 2 years (I barely even played games at Evo. It wasn’t even about that for me) So I am going to be shit tier at everything.
Any other time I would drive you myself, but I’m going to be at PAX this weekend.
You could spend the gas and cabinet money and just pay 30 to get into PAX. I bet they will have a cabinet there. Probably cost you the same.
LOL hey Brent. When I was at Narrows last Tuesday, there were some BrentoBox inspired Claw players there. No lie. They would just keep wall diving. One of them was like “yeah there was this one dude that was wicked with wall dives! he just kept doing them!” Then that guy went and picked Claw on me hahah. They would even do the patented BrentoBox “whiff jumping rh when trying to do wall dive which conveniently moves him further away from you so he can continue to wall dive” strat.
There was a dude there when I was last there that was actually good with Sagat. I dunno who he was though, first time I ever saw him. Hopefully he plays more often.
Asian guy with like…black hair that had a long strand of blonde? That who you’re talking about.
Oh, and thanks Brent, I hear you, but I got plans with the girl during the weekend.
Nope not that guy, I know who you’re talking about though. That guy always used Ken against me. The guy I’m talking about is a Samoan dude.
I should be heading out to Narrows for a little while tonight (gotta work at 7am tomorrow morning =/). Gimme a call if you’re going.
