SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

I never heard of NFL Chris. I think Tatarian went by a different name for a while.

You may be actually talking about NGL Chris, who is also DRS Chris, who is also…wait for it…

…Chris Tartarian: One of the best Ken players in the U.S. who recently won the Moment 37 Reloaded SF4 tournament and frequently places top 3 at WNFs.

He really is the best Ken in the US and he is really great, but the difference to Momochi at capcom cup was way bigger than I thought it would be.

lol

Yeah, SoCal Ken player from WNF. Formerly NGL Chris / DRS Chris. He blew me up on stream a while back.

Would appreciate input on this match:

For some context, I wanted to change up my approach to try to throw him off in game 2. He ended up just reversal DP’ing alot, which I should have noticed but didn’t bait out often enough.

Any other advice is more than welcome.

2 things

the way chris was jumping at you is kinda tricky to deal with, you never AA him consistenly at that range and you never notice he was doing j.hk at max range to punish your kikos. you could used cr.mp or cr.hk to counter this as he was commiting to the jump even before you did kikos, he just know that you like to throw them at that range, at least that the impression i have after watching the set. Even neutral j.hk can be a very good option because you cover the ex air derp tatsu too

the other thing is your meter management, plz dont go the val route (ie. hzu FADC just because) against ken you can punish quite a few things with meter:

cr.mk xx hado can be punished with reversal ex legs on block (not sure at max range tho)
cr.hk can be punished with super, ex legs and reversal u1
focus can be punished with dash ex legs or firecraker (he was focusing a lot because of your hzu)

i liked that you use u1 in this mu, many chuners go u2 just to get lame out, we all know that ken´s fireballs are ass but the thing is chun kiko is even worst because she needs charge and it doesnt travel fast enough and is not full screen either hence she cant keep up even against ken´s fireball.

all in all you played well and chris was a little sloopy you could won that, you just need to get rid of some bad habits like hp kiko, dash as this is never a good idea, you cant block if they jump (your last kiko was punished like this btw) and reversal hzu are good once, but i dont like the risk involve, if you dont need to take that risk then dont do it specially against characters that can srk fadc ultra or players with good reflexes.

another thing sometimes ppl forget chun st.lk can beat ken step kick, is not something you can do w/o training but is doable.

dont hate me :frowning:

oh man i really hate this

omega chun does have almost all the thing i wanted when i was asking stuff for ultra

st.mk does 90dmg

st.hp does 120dmg

ex haz is actually a decent AA

a divekick

lights can be combo´d from f.mk

b.mk does have juggle potential

b.hp is really useful with 100dmg things like cr.lk, cr.lp, b.hp xx any special is possible

we lost st.hp, super but we gain st.hp xx super so cr.lp x3~4, st.hp xx super is possible

st.mp is still 60dmg but now chun can get a lot of damage with simple stuff like st.mp xx hcf hk FADC air throw (YES AIR THROW)

st.mp xx ex kiko, u2 is possible too

cr.hp first hit does 70dmg

we lost loops and tbh it doesnt matter, chun does enough dmg w/o loops that it makes me want to play omega chun instead of ultra chun.

we lost df.lk but ex haz does cover this pretty well imo.

the one thing i really miss is the changed air TC, we lost all the follow ups…

man and i havent tested all the other stuff yet.

Isn’t 512 dmg from U2 on grounded opponents a bit exagerated ?
Anyway, I love Omega Mode for Chun !

no is not as i havent found a way to land it. When you use u2 in juggles is doesnt do that much dmg which is sad. But i have found so much stuff that i dont really care like cr.hp xx Hk sbk xx super… yes hk sbk xx super

poison doesn’t drop in the corner from a juggled U1 anymore

Which Edition for Chun-Li is the best again? Is her Vanilla mode strongest? Or is it her SSFIV or USFIV?

each edition sorta has some pros and cons.

Vanilla - strong damage, regular health, no stun nerf on her sweep
SSFIV - “anti air” (tho I dont use this move), kikosho (but it’s weak), semi-vanilla damage, no stun nerf on her sweep
USFIV - HP buff, kikosho damage buff, but she has nerfs on her sweep and her ultra 1 kicks

and SSFIV AE Chun-Li was just ass. I dont consider her SSFIV AE version good at all

omega

I dont believe in Omega Chun so I stick with regular Chun

omega chun hazanshu doesn’t hit overhead. I feel that’s a huge nerf to her game

maybe, maybe not

she has so many other stuff that i dont care

i do miss CH cl.hk xx mk hzu tho

cl.hk as antiair is really powerful in omega. You can follow it with air throw (with or without jump cancel) or b.mk combo, easier and more damaging.
So Focus lvl 2, late cl.hk, b.mk combo is possible.
cl.hk, lp kikoken, ex legs works too. Possible to land ex legs after ex kikoken too.

Regular hazanshu has been nerfed really much (no overhead indeed, and travels lower making it really hard to use to avoid projectiles) but ex haz is fun to use and seems to have projectile invincibility during last hit (but not on recovery).

sbk juggles all hits now but I couldn’t find a situation where this property could be used properly.
You can use cl.mp as antiair (first hit only puts in a juggle state) and cancel into hk sbk before second hit comes out.

Now she has some meterless very damaging combos with her new move :
linking cr.mk, cr.lp seems easier to me and you can follow it with another cr.lp, hcf.lk
jump hk, cr.mk, cl.mp, hcf.mk is interesting too.

You can land mk sbk after dive kick knocks down in the air too.

you dont need hzu as kikoken is not a charge move, so you can pretty much fight others fbs w/o that much of a problem imo

Per the normal - I ALWAYS miss Valmaster on stream
But he’s kicking butt and taking names in Group A of Kakutop League
