SFIV Chun Li General - Fellowship of the Thigh v.2

I saw the Rog match on your channel, good job and congrats. Yeah, malv has some good tech on his channel that goes ignored. He’s one of the few Chuns that actively researches.

;_;

Meaning it hits on frame 5. So you have 4 frames of lag on landing, and you have that 1 frame that you are attacking while air-borne. That adds up to 5 frames, so Sagat would hit you. That’s just not true; you can block on frame 3 after attacking and you can block on frame 1 if you don’t attack. Since you need to be attacking in the air for an extra frame and recovering on the ground for 2 frames, you are vulnerable long enough for a 3 frame reversal to hit you, even after a perfect safe-jump. Just saying theory fighter is better when the theory is correct. I’ll be making it to the location test in Walnut this December, so I will definitely try out some of the ideas. Just want to have some numbers in my head to know what to try.

btw, not trying to shit on your work. I love the spread sheets with all the matchup knowledge. If there were a Chun that could execute all those nerdy option selects, execute her combos, and play good footsies then we might have a real pro Chun.

I just barfed in my mouth

“All option selects” (at once anyway) is a bit much. I’d say Nashfan and Toi are pretty high caliber Chuns if you’re looking for US tourney players, though. There are a few Singaporean Chun players worth noting too.

On the Japanese side, I can’t say I’ve heard from Y24 or Vivi lately, sadly.

i dont understand whats your problem is

i dont even know if you are this stupid or just being troll

Az, when you say df+lk is back to Super status, does that also mean trading with it will allow her to combo afterwards mid-screen like it did in Super?

Hi everybody.
Just to say that the new jump of chun li is 35 frames and not 36 frames. Eventhubs made a mistake when it says 5 frames according to this picture.

Before it was 41 frames and now 35 frames

yeah the front page here on srk does say 35f too. Long time no see cnul!. Are you going to pick ultra?

I think so, although when I used it I never got it to trade. Clean hit.

…I don’t see myself picking up Ultra, at least not right now.

35f jump with her j.hk is going to be stupid against fireball characters.

My biggest worry is defensively, im a massively defensive chun, and normal focus attack are alreadya pain to look out for an anticipate. im sure having ex hazan shu focus break will help, but so many other cast members have armour breaking moves that dont need meter. and chun li really doesn’t (normal spinning birds, do NOT count as moves as they are in AE ;))

So yeah, if you could experiment on the defensive side of the red focus, see if the non ex spinning birds have been improved are more viable, or let us know if we will just have to make sure we have meter in the late game and tough situation where red focus might be busted out.

Oh and on a different topic, i just wanted to thank snakeaes, malva, whippet, skatan, azrael, and anyone else i might have missed on giving so much great advice over the last year or so. i have managed to get to a level that i always pointed at when i first started and was strugggling at 800pp: Got over 3kpp today (PC AE 2012) very satisfied!!!

all online too, zero competitive scene where i live.

Grech, where are you located? I play AE on PC too, add me sometime (GFWL: psnSnakeAes) and maybe if the lag isn’t too bad we can get some mirrors in.

Anyone else have this issue? I stopped playing sf4 for a long time probably a year and a half and before I was pretty good, I knew my match ups decently (not as much for the new chars though), my execution was top notch, good footsies, solid mix up game and I’ve been playing again recently and I just TANK.

This game isn’t easy to just pick up and play again. I’m re-learning EVERYTHING. I really paid attention to myself last night and I realize that I know so little about matchups. I was getting really good, but I focused entirely on my offensive to get the win and when it came down to responding from a defensive perspective I was really shakey. Now that I’m really focusing on re-learning my matchups I started playing around in training mode using ideas from this forum to bring my game to a new level with stuff I haven’t been comfortable doing since I took a break ie. leg loops, headstomp shinanigans, riskier juggles… And guess what? I’m losing more than ever. I feel like a newbie again! I think this is okay though, it means I have growth to be had.

Anyway, just so you all know that people out there are reading what’s posted on this forum I want to thank the veterans that are still around posting matchup info and their personal chun discoveries… It’s all I’ve got to improve my game right now!

P.s. Both excited and scared for the new update to sf4. I wish there wasn’t any new characters since I don’t know enough about the current ones, but if it creates more interest in the game then I’m all for it!

P.p.s. Sorry for the long-winded post… Bad habit

I actually find the opposite is true for me… I always feel I do better after taking a break, although I’ve never taken a break that long. Usually the longest I go without playing the game is a few months.

When I come back, the game feels fresh and I typically rely less on gimmicks and more on just sort of solid play, footsies, and mixups because I’m not confident enough in my execution (after being away from the game for a while) to rely on execution-heavy stuff like the cr.HP Legs loop.

Same. Breaks help me unlearn habits and I usually end up just applying the stuff that matters in the match more and develop better habits when I’m relearning the game (or any game).

wtf this black magic you´re talking about

Wow, I wish I took after you guys. I just play so lazy and inefficient now. I’m working harder than ever. I don’t even understand how I completely forgot everything about matchups. Oh well, a little reading seems to go a long way.

Im in the UK, might be a tough ask for you in socal, but we can definitely give it a try. my GFWL tag is ImASecretWriter, ill add you next time i boot up. if lag isn’t terrible maybe we could also skype chat and you could give me some amazing pro advice

and yeah i find breaks really do help me get more perspective on the footsie and patient reactive game. if i play too long i get into autopilot mode with my gimmicks and sometimes forget to just sit, block and let the opponents hang themselves.

Sorry to interrupt the USF4 talk, but I have an other question.

I was wondering if close standing heavy kick can be used as an anti air?
Look at its hitbox on this picture:
http://www.eventhubs.com/images/2011/sep/30/chun-lis-hit-box-information-super-street-fighter-4-arcade-edition-image-1/

Its a pretty good hitbox and can should be able to work as anti air if it is spaced right. Not to mention its 5f startup.
