One of the more interesting things about SamSho (and probably a good example in how “depth” is a meme word in the FGC) is how compelling the gameplay is with the seemingly limited toolset characters have.
Having games that offer satisfying and engaging gameplay beats the “depth” every day of the week.
What Smash and Samsho have in common is a low barrier to functionality.
You don’t have to grind oki timings, know frames, or combos to function. Not that those aren’t important but yeah. It makes people want to play because leveling up feels more within their grasp.
@Pertho I edited the post hours ago when I realized there would be confusion.
“Some dude”, is a guy that has been on James Chen shows many times including when their full UNIST show when the game came out.
That’s still why SF2 remains the best SF for beginners. One thing that definitely became apparent to me was how accurate Momochi was in saying that SF5 is hard for a lot of stuff. Going from character to character and not knowing what to do with the v-triggers was a massive hurdle.
I have my issues with SF2, but it certainly is a good one for beginners, and is also fun at low levels.
To many games you can play by slapping buttons, but that’s not what the games are really made for and its not a great way to play. New players usually aren’t dumb, they know this.
Actually, SF games were pretty good on beginners up until SF4.
SF4 is just a parade of esoteric nonsense and stupid execution hurdles. SFV still has problems in that regard but It did pull back on alot of SF4’s stupidity.
in DBFZ? kinda. Its one of the auto combos. Though there are no unique functions of the M>M auto combo, and its in effect, pretty useless outside of some edge case hitconfirm tricks.
Outside the fact that 1 or 2 episodes ago they talked about Infiltration knowing nothing about how it developed, which was pretty triggering: I was looking for a podcast where people know what they are talking about.
In the last episode they start talking about SF Vskills and they have no idea what Vskills of the characters are.
Apparently Lucia’s Vskill is the run and Cody’s Vskill is tornado.
I understand you don’t play the game and you don’t know/remember stuff, if anything I appreciate it, but don’t talk about it on a podcast. It’s grating.
They are also convinced that Vskill-2 is coming in February apparently.
Since it has auto combos and it’s DBZ i’m Guessing I can get my homies to play it. I’ve been trying to get my buddies into fighting games for the last few months, hoping this one will do it
