SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

What do you mean? So once your stick fucks up, there is no way to fix it?

If you have been playing with the stuck, and your washer has been off track, then chances are it has scratched the PCB. If it still works, it may not be too late to glue the washer down and just have a slightly scratched, but working board.

There is at least some hope left for SE stick buyers!!!

I had a problem with one of the buttons and i ended fucking up one of them for good so now I just bought good quality ones, other than that stick is good to go.

Are you near DC? I’ll give you $19.99 for your broken SE …

is there a way to get that half circle thing off at da end of the stick? i wanna take it off to clean excess glue and crap. so could someone help me

had a fightstick with the washer completely severing the connection on the pcb.

solution to bring the pcb back to life:

  • glue down the washer with super glue

  • use a no.2 pencil lead and penciled in the severed connection.

  • cover the pencil lead site with transparent tape so it doesn’t rub away during play.

  • test the connection before closing it back up

its not the perfect solution, but works like a charm.

Im happy now…

Finally got my new sanwa stick and buttons (2 jlfs and 6 obsf30s) for my two broken madcrapz sticks. After spending an hour or so setting them up, installing the new parts, they are both ready to go. They feel a billion times better. My two sticks actually work well now and im having a blast, even though im still not 100% used to playing with sticks yet… If you are worried about your madcatz SE just replace the old parts with sanwas and you’ll be soon playing with a nice piece of gear.

Also, i decided to mess around with my old madcatz stick, since it was just sitting on my desk and i can re-confirm that a healthy dose of superglue on the washer will do the trick. I glued the washer down into the little inlay in the plastic that the washer was meant to sit in and after i let it dry for a while and put back it back together the stick doesn’t getting stuck at all anymore.

If you want to do this it is very simple:

1.) First remove the stick from the case.
2.) Remove the clear plastic restrictor on the bottom of the stick by pushing in the black tabs and pulling it off (its really -physically- hard to do on the madcatz sticks… i did it with my bare hands on my sanwa’s but on my madcatz stick i had to use pliers…)
3.) Once the clear plastic restrictor is off, the simple PCB can be easily removed. You just slide it off. (You will notice, if you have been using your stick, that the PCB has been badly damaged by the loose washer as discussed in the thread. If you would like to repair your PCB this would be a good time to do so also.)
4.) Now the metal washer should be exposed and easy to identify. You can see it sliding around and tilting… That is causing the sticking and damaging your PCB. So, lift it up on each side and squirt a little superglue under it. Also, make sure it is centered and in the little indentation that it was made to rest in. Keep pressure applied to it and let it dry for a few minutes.
5.) Reassemble the stick when the glue under the washer is dry. Put on the pcb with the 5pin connector facing the side perpendicular to the long side of the mounting plate (the same as it was when you removed it). Put on the clear plastic restrictor, and you’re done.

The stick should no longer get stuck in any direction if you glued the washer correctly.

I haven’t bothered trying to fix the PCB with the pencil trick. I was unaware of that at the time and don’t really care that much about it since i have sanwas in both my sticks now. But with the pencil trick and the glued washer hopefully those of you who can not afford new parts will be able to get the most out of their sticks.

Good luck all. I know these problems suck bad, and i hope everyone can find a good solution. :woot:

how do i get that little metal piece off from the bottom of the stick? it looks like a metal half circle

pull it off with either pliers or a small flat head
it should pop right off

So I’m no expert but just to be clear, I take a no.2 pencil and ‘pencil in’ the spots where my pcb is scratched up and that could be a possible solution??

How does that even work? Is the pcb and the lead in the pencil made of the same material? This is just something I’m interested in, and also could make my day if I can get my sticks to work again while i wait for my sanwa parts.

Any idea what size screws to get for the bottom panel, I want to replace mine. They are fine but I don’t trust them.

I was actually happy when i saw this post and will probably do this fix when i get home. But i made another post speaking on how some of the screws were Pre-Stripped before i could even take the whole thing apart. But the reason im quoting what this guy is saying is because i’ve had this happen too. I just unplugged it and plugged it back up and didnt think anything of it. But since it happend to my fightpad a couple times also i think i will just take the same stand that i took on my other post saying "MadCatz still Equals Piece Of ShiBooBoo. :arazz: I guess i’ll use my good hold super glue on the metal ring so i can use the stick till my sanwa parts come.

Isn’t pencil “lead” made from graphite nowadays?

got my SE stick a week after launch. works perfect!

I got my stick in today and I glued down the washer and I put it back together but my forward motion doesn’t work. Any ideas?

edit: It doesn’t have to do with the stick it has to do with the micro switch box. or maybe the wiring harness. I’m not sure because I’m pressing the red button and he won’t move forward.

When you put it back together make sure to plug the stuff back in correctly. Another thing, make sure that big bundle of wires isn’t preventing movement, I noticed it was preventing movement on my stick a little. I just moved it in between the top plate and the mounting bracket for the stick.

This happened to me dude after I glued mine, my left movement wasn’t working. Basically all I did was take it apart again and give everything a quick blow and clean (and basically prayed as I hadn’t a clue how to fix it) put it back together and it worked perfect, so give that a try.

well there’s not much to plug back in besides the 5 pin connector but yea I still don’t understand why everything works but the forward motion.

How did you clean yours? Was it a problem with your stick or the black box thing. My stick works fine but theres one box that’s not responding to anything.
