SF4 Standard Edition FightStick - Problem / Defect Thread

Shit, I’d like to see a post where people talked about how their fightstick WORKED. Like, a vote, a count of people here who actually didn’t have problems. Do you think there would be anyone?

I finally got my standard edition for PS3, shit just didn’t work at all, right out of the box. RAD.

I think a vote would be awesome. Someone should forward it to their share holders.

The sad thing is, that someone probably designed the product really well. Unfortunately, someone else in management was short sighted, and paid a bean counter somewhere to figure out how much cheaper they could make it per unit by using inferior parts. That is usually the case with these sorts of things. Its sad that companies need to cut corners like this, just to turn a profit. When I say need, I mean need, not necessarily want. Casualty of this economic era I suppose.

MadCatz is definitely not getting my money again although a TE stick sounds good. I also agree that since there were only a “few” than RMAing us a new stick would be more appropriate than sending it in and being told as I was that we are awaiting parts because your circuit board was damaged and require a whole new joystick. There are only a few so I send in a broke one while you are sending the new one…easy pie right? No, we know the real story is that they probably don’t even have enough to replace all of ours and are re-tooling to prevent further sticks being bad right off the line

Oh, I agree with your rant/opinion. I’ve had a few similar rants earlier on in this thread that this whole thing is unacceptable and those who got stuck without an operating stick for SF4 launch just left everyone with a sour MC taste.

In a way, I was “lucky” to not have made the SE stick reserves and got a few HRAPs instead. Can’t be more happier =P

hugs his hrap 3SA

UPDATE - I’m thinking it’s an X4 compatibility problem here. I just tried using the original 360 headset, and it had no trouble listening to an old voice message from the dashboard. Tried it with the X4, and all I got was silence. That right there tells me the problem is likely some kind of compatibility issue between the X4 and the SE, as opposed to a problem with just the SE or its adapter. Any other X4 users out there having trouble?

I preordered one at the Gamestop near me. Got it home, wouldn’t register the left input on the joystick.

Brought it back, luckily, they had a second in stock. They took it out of box and tested it on the store PS3 display for me. Worked fine.

Fast forward to a week of tiger uppercuts later, and boom. Down input stopped working on the stick. Popped the case open since I had planned on modding it anyway, and the washer had grinded the copper off the PCB board for the down input.

I was kind of pulling for Madcatz on this one. I had hoped they were going to redeem themselves, and I still think they have for the most part. This issue with the washer though, is not going to help their image at all.

HAHAHAHAHA… how the fuck was such a glaring design flaw missed? thats not the kind of thing a company that is trying to “rebuild their image” should ever do.

My friend and I have 1 bad button switch in each of our sticks in our CE version. Also myself and 2 other friends, sometimes our bottom buttons stop working on our TE sticks and we have to unplug and replug them in.

I ordered some sanwa parts for my CE stick, so that fixes my bad button switch problem.

This thread is epic in its failure.

It’s like The Gong Show.

It hurts 'til you laugh.

Fondly strokes his 2 pimped out HRAP3s

Gots me Mesh Balltops and PS-14-K-Ns in mine.

We should have all filed better business bureau complaints and maybe they would move a little faster. I guess I’m just irritated at their “taking care of it Asap” reality.

Overall I am high un-impressed by Mad Catz tech support…what a joke. I made the initial call and was told I would get an email with directions and a second one with shipping label the next day. Well I waited until about 3:00 pm the next day and no shipping label. I call them up and they look it up and it is still “processing”. I then get an email at like 5:03 pm at the end of day with my shipping label. Fast forward, ship it off, they receive it 25 Feb. I wait until 3 Mar (today) to check up on it. I then get told…“oh your’s is in testing”…“ok, looks like your circuit board is beyond repair, and we are awaiting parts”. I ask for an etec on parts arrival…“oh i don’t know”.

What kind of customer service is this? If there was going to be an extra wait time, I should have been emailed at least explaining and apologizing for the delay, but not MadCatz. It seems as though if you don’t stay on them, service will be non-existant.

How bout a non-bullshit reply from someone who works at madcatz telling us whats up? pathetic company. really, is the ceo of this company a fucking child.

i got the se stick as my prize for 2nd round win at the game stop tourney instead of a fight pad

its working fine so far but its not on par with my hrap 3
some new buttons and a new stick will fix that

i like the case itself
and it fits in my back pack where the hrap 3 wont

i dont know what kind of miracle u people expected out of a 70-80 dollar stick
it deff shouldnt be failing on u withing like 6 months to a year tho
so someone deff fucked up

and i understand that buying a new stick and buttons is putting it only like 20 bucks under what a te would cost

but do yourself a favor and just suck it up and put new buttons and a stick in it

the buttons themselves arent so bad
but the stick feels like shit

if i didnt like the case so much i would have sold it

btw anyone else think its funny that game stop doesnt take trade ins on the madcatz sticks lol

Before I even played with my stick for an hour I glued the washer down. I have absolutely no complaints about the stick. The buttons are decent enough, they could be more sensitive for my tastes and they could be more resilient to jamming up (just gotta make sure to wash my hands before I play or I end up having to clean the buttons). Other than those minor issues it’s an amazing stick. I’ll keep using it until the parts craze ends and then I’ll replace it with Sanwa parts.

It serves its purpose for now, fully responsive buttons and stick. For a new fighting game player it works great. I can do hard trials etc. just fine. When I feel the need for a more sensitive stick and buttons (dunno how much more sensitive Sanwa will be since I’ve never used it before and thus cannot compare) I’ll upgrade it for a mere $40 to get the same quality as the TE without the added $30 on the price. Why buy a $2000 rifle when you don’t know how to shoot properly? Same applies here.

Even if you didn’t want to use the stock stick and buttons it’s still a great deal. It comes compatible with whatever system you choose, has a decent case with decent artwork, it has turbo functions if you want, 8 buttons, the art can be interchanged fairly easily, and most importantly the stick and buttons are easily interchanged without solder.

Well all i expected was a stick that worked reasonably, or to be able to return it. I mean, it’s like anything else…sure you would expect higher quality out of a Rolls Royce than Chevy, but you shouldn’t have to repair the new Chevy prior to driving it, or have to mod it with a new engine.

Uh… expecting it to work out of the box for say… more than a few hours is a “Miracle”?

Perhaps in Madcatz standards, that would be a miracle.

Seriously.

My Hrap3 is perfect, i have no problems with it! im so glad i got it instead of this p.o.s

lol theres a big difference between and 80 dollar stick and a 30k plus car or truck

and u people should have known what u were getting into when u bought from madcatz

all i know is every product line in the world has some defects here and there
its just the amount of defects and problems for these is not acceptable

and again stop crying and put some real parts in the case
u would have done it eventually anyway

So only if the stick was priced at $150+ would it be an issue if it didn’t work out of the box? But since it’s under $100, it’s ok? You miss the point completely. Nothing should be expected to fail right out of the box. Even if you bought an old used car for $1000. If it’s advertised to run for at least 30 days, that’s what you should expect, regardless of what was paid.

This has been brought up and it’s an old and pointless rebuttal.

Originally this would’ve been the case had it not been advertised that MC was working to better themselves and Markman and S-kill had attested to a high quality stick. It’s not MC’s word we were taking, it’s Markman and Seth Killian’s words.

People gave MC the benefit of the doubt because reputable people stepped up to speak for the sticks.

Has anyone called/e-mailed MadCatz to get it repaired? Does anyone have any info on how long it takes for them to send you the prepaid shipping and get that all taken care of?

I’ve filled out a form through e-mail, but I haven’t heard back from them since I sent that e-mail. I’m not really sure what the process is from this point. My joystick’s UL, L, DL directions have stopped responding. I tried playing with the Xbox controller but it’s awful.
