Just wondering if you guys are going to do another tournament anytime soon? Didnt get a chance to come to the first but i would love to come to the next one if you are doing one
We intend to have another tournament soon. Also look forward to meeting you sometime! Hopefully the next tournament or sooner
May 15th was a target, but it fell through for various reasons (no one single reason).
With PSUās Random Select Tournament coming up, I didnāt want to interfere with that and I think itās great that they are doing it (a week before, they will also have a Smash Bros. Brawl tournamentāfor the Smash players out there).
Early June is also complicated with reservations and even my own absence (spending time with the wife for a couple of weeks)ā¦
Therefore, I am moving along and working out plans for a big tournament in late June. This tournament should be really good preparation for Evo and I intend to step up the marketing efforts on it early on.
We hope to carry on more tournaments throughout the summer as well, but we will focus on that big pre-Evo tournament first.
A note on tournaments & showing support:
First off, we definitely plan on having more fighting game tournaments As soon as we can too.
This message is not directed at kwyjibo123 and it isnāt a direct response to his/her postāso I donāt want people to think Iām spouting off on kwyjibo123. Heck, itās not at all directed at any member here at SRK because everyone here really seems to understand the value of community and meeting places (this Northwest forums being a meeting place).
I just feel like expressing a broad sentiment because working at Versis, I see a lot of people who only want a tournament (Madden, CoD, Halo, Street Fighter, Soul Calibur, you name it) and otherwise could care less about finding others to play with or a place to challenge others (even a free one).
Of course, I also see a lot of people looking for other players, looking to help build a community, and appreciating that a community exists for an awesome game. And I love that, thatās what the Fight Nights are about as well as what Versis itself sets out to do. We charge because we have to pay rent, suppliers, utility, employees, and the people that helped us build the business. But what gets us out of bed each morning and ready to work is the idea of providing a great social environment for gaming and building connections among the players. And for the Fight Nights, as long as I donāt have Friday morning obligations or am in danger of getting in an accident on my 35 minute commuteāI am willing to stick it out and let that same $6 cover as much as nearly 11 hours of event space and game time
The Fight Night sessions help build towards having more tournaments and giving the tournaments more options. In all honesty, the best way to stimulate tournaments happening at any venue, whether it is Versis, Tilt, or even at PSUāis by showing a base and a community that would support and almost ensure participation (and need) in a tournament.
Businesses see a lot more incentive in tournaments if they see some real support. Organizers also see a bigger pool of players through support as well. Itās not enough to just have a bunch of people show up to the tournament, because most tournaments are not run on a profit unless the entrance fee is very high, a sponsor is involved, and the number of people showing up is beyond massive. Get a more active community going and stimulated and the venue has more purpose and future.
I will be blunt and say that tournaments are not very profitable for venues, but I think any business or organization would love to hold an event like a tournament for a base of participants who are enthusiastic and show it. Tournaments should reward their winners nicely, but they also have to sustain their costs, and most of all, do no damage to the business.
The Street Fighter IV tournament was a success, btw.
There are a lot of people who just want a tournament, and only a tournament. And I think thatās cool, but it doesnāt really help a community nor a venue (even if the venue was a college club). General participation (that is, not just tournament only), representation, and sometimes even appreciation go a very long way.
Versis is excited to have a tournament, but weāll admit weāre also very interested in seeing communities grow (even if it wasnāt just at Versis). We think tournaments help that mission too. But communities are the best at expressing a need for an arena of competition like a tournament.
That said, given the support of the fighting game community thatās being shown at the fight nights, and given the success of the first tournamentāwe are very excited about setting up more tournaments for the community.

I wanna thank Ray for all the advice he gave me last night. I will probably need to spend a ton of hours in training mode to be able to pull off the things he was showing me!
Ray showed me a bunch of moves as well last week and I came in at 1:00 yesterday and sat in training mode doing them. Even that wasnāt enough though :]
Ray is a really nice guy to play around and against. Nick also makes the whole place seem a lot more warm and welcoming than it looks on its own :]
Thanks to all the guys who make it a community instead of a personal battle.
GGs everyone. Hope everyone had fun. Had some good SF4 and VF going on. Hopefully some ST or HDR next time. Some retarded Rufus v Gief matches Fatbear and I had.
If you guys ever have any questions about SF4 or any gameā¦donāt hesitate to ask. Ray and I think most people donāt mind helping.
At long last, Iām gonna shoot to make it out there tomorrow. Short of something crazy happening, Iāll be thereā¦ getting raped in whatever game I try to compete in.
Oh well. I need some time with my P-Town Shoryuken people. Maybeā¦ just maybeā¦ Iāll learn something.
im also planing on finally showing up, my past couple attempts havent gone as planedā¦ so heres hoping lol.
Be there, man.
BE THERE
Also. Do I need to bring my stick or anything, or is it kind of a ājust show upā affair?
Iāll b in the building . Bring your A game for me everyone
I actually own the game now so soon I will catch up to the rest of you. Watch out!
Sooo what character do I gotta body for the next few months sam?
Sounds like tonight is gonna be a great night!
Looking forward to it!
Kendrik, you can bring your own stick if you want to. I recommend it. If people are down with it, with more arcade sticks, I can setup more stations that are more suited for arcade stick play. Itāll make sense when you get here.
Metal, I am really looking forward to meeting you (and Kendrik too)!
Itās always a great night when the two Sams show up.

Itās official, I hate responsibility. I have a paper due tomorrow for likeā¦ a quarter of my class grade.
I was in Portland hanging out with some people and taking care of some businessā¦ a quick trip on the Blue Line from Versisā¦ andā¦ I chose to come back home to work on the damned paper.
Sorry guys. Iāll try again soon. When I make it out there, Iāll pack up my Wii and copy of TvC if thereās still any interest in trying it out.
Damn thats a bummer man.
Thanks to Chanchai for the warm welcome i had a good time, next week ill probly come in a bit later cause i showed up at 6 sharp today, which is to say i wont leave as early.
