SF4 Session @ Versis this Thursday

PMing Panda about a ride for this week, would love to finally get to one of these.

Sounds like you guys have a blast I’m definately gonna check it out soon. I’m gonna wait until my sanwa parts arrive first since my madcatz SE buttons are starting to become unresponsive. They should be here in 1 or 2 weeks. I look forward to meeting you all and having some epic matches.

Last night was a lot of fun, glad I got out. Props to R Panda for the ride! GGs to him Chanchai, Slash, Ray, Metal, and everybody else I had matches with. I was the Rose player with the Marvel stick and the guy who ran the Virtua Fighter gauntlet initiation with Lion. Will step my game up and see you guys again on the quick, and make me record matches next time.

as always had a great time, got some really good matches in. SamY(and 2 guys i dident know playing Rufus and Balrog) showed me i have alot of work ahead of me, but im glad(and thankful lol) they dont go easy cause thats what its gonna take for me to learn.
but yeah GGs to everyone i played, and it was nice to meet Pasqual. also thanks to Simon and Nick for some tips, i appreciate any help you guys try to give.

 They got you, eh? Ray made me run the SFIV initiation some time back at Ground Kontrol, then he and Chanchai made me face beatdown after beatdown in VF5 when I made it out to Versis.

I don’t think I’ll make it out next week, but I’m gonna see if I can try for the week after that. Need some more local matches with my Portland people before moving.

It was hella fun. Except for the SF player who came over and kept punching me in the balls with Akira when he took a round  I owe you one, whoever you were!

Come out before you leave! Would like to hang out and I can figure out who to put you in contact with in Florida.

Double post because I dgaf.

Game Stop broke street date for KOF12 and no GameCrazy has been given the okay to follow suit.

I’m going to pick up my copy within the next couple hours. Fuck yes, everybody go get KOF.

GGs, ya’ll. I’mma pick up VF5 this week, oh ho ho. It’s on!

Though not next week 'cause I gots work. =\

Good stuff. Some good games in SF4. I need to get some practice in SF4. Got some HDR and VF5 in too. Intense VF5 session until 5am lol.

You guys popped back on VF5 until 5? Jesus. Were you the guy who kept switching off with Ray against me?

Yes, I was the Kage/Shun player. Names Simon by the way. VF is serious business to Nick and Ray and we played some more after people left haha. Your Lion is good, just need to learn some more of his tricks and combos.

Woohoo, just picked up KOF XII, thanks for the tip!

Thanks a ton to Fat Bear for showing me (and re-showing me) good Ryu stuff in SF4 late at night. It’s really going to change (and hopefully improve) my game, so I’m looking forward to next time!

The super late night VF5 session was awesome. I think Ray, Simon, and myself all played an elevated game with some very fun/crazy/frustrating moments. It was hard to stop playing with those exchanges going on.

Last night was a lot of fun and one of the most social nights we’ve had at the Fight Night. SF4, VF5, and HDR took up the stage. Especially SF4, which had a lot of very interesting matches.

The return of SSP/Tsunamiken was very nice, keep it up man!

Also, I still am pleasantly shocked that we have two Salem players coming out for the Fight Nights.

I know it’s been said before… but there is strong consideration of a pre-NW Majors tournament (most likely one week before NW Majors). Please let me know how much you want this tournament!

Thanks to everyone who made it out here last night!

  • Bumperfront
  • Slayu2
  • Derrick
  • Yangsing
  • Tsunamiken (SSP was it?)
  • MetalHealthX
  • RPanda
  • Pasqual
  • Kwyjibo123
  • Scott
  • Rayblade
  • Sam Y

Don’t forget that next week we have a double-whammy:

The Usual Fight Night on Thursdays and…

Ground Kontrol is $5 on Wednesday night (last Wednesday of the month)

nice, hopefully ill be picking up KOF soon… but moneys tight, either way im down to try and learn it. id definitely attend the tourney if you put it together, and not to be picky but you can just use Metal Health as my handle, the x’s are just fillers i hate having to use them and #s.

Edit: also it sucks not being 21… few more months then ill be at ground kontrol more often.

Sigh… After an evening of KOF XII… I have to say I like the game’s graphics and gameplay (as a fighting game) itself…

But…

It’s now hard to honestly recommend the game, especially in its current state, to people because I don’t think it should have been priced $60…

I even blogged about it on my playfire page http://www.playfire.com/chanchai/

It’s disappointing that the game is priced at $60 and is packaged like a downloadable Live Arcade or PSN title. Except there’s one problem… currently the online play seems to be consistently slo-mo with lots of dropped inputs. A patch is on the way, so there’s hope.

But let me also summarize the single player: Time Attack + Training Mode. No, seriously, that’s all it is. And access to the online store from the main menu… despite giving you this little for $60 already…

Either they make a lot of good improvements (Seems like netplay is the only one they would care to do though) or… you’ll see this game’s price plummet in no time anyways.

KOFXII is fun but I don’t think I’ll be huge on it. My preliminary team looks to be Shen/Chin/Clark. Worst character in the game as my anchor ftw although I may replace him with Kim or Kensou.

I would be very down for a pre-NWM tournament.

Well the game itself cost snk alot of money, they spent tons to make completely knew hi-def well animated sprites… they took a big chance on it so Im sure they tried to to overextend there budget. Its definitely not very good if you just have casual interest in fighting games or are a story guy, but whatever its still fun, and it looks good and plays good too.

I really like the gameplay and graphics a lot (though I have to admit that KOF XII feels “simpler” than I thought it would be–not a bad thing, just surprising). It’s a gorgeous game, animations are excellent and it plays great offline with a friend.

I’m not even complaining that the game should have invested tons more money into more modes, bells, and whistles (though it would be nice if their intention was to sell this game at $60).

My concern is that given current market expectations and conditions… Choosing to charge $60 (even if it’s only intended for just right away and they plan to skim the price down later) is a potentially dangerous way to market this game because it may quickly undervalue this game. Especially since initial sell-through is almost all that matters in the disc-retail model.

So I am worried that KOF XII is going to be undervalued for a good while and it will likely affect how the game is adopted. Reading the forums now, I think quite a few people (including those who were planning to get it on the 29th) might avoid buying it now… And face it, this game was always dedicated to a hardcore group, which includes very fickle players.

Anyways… I am of the mindset that this game’s market penetration (even in anti-KOF USA), build up for the next KOF game and the brand as a whole, and appreciation of the game itself would have been better served if this game had focused on being an online downloadable game and really tooted its horn about doing so. Or really marketed that this great game can be yours for only $30-$40. (and in these tough economic times no doubt :P)

Not that that idea is bulletproof either (there’s a large demographic of KOF fans that actually have a PS3 and no internet, weird but I see them a lot in my store).

But yeah… it’s hard to figure out whether they should try to recoop the large investment by setting the MSRP to $59.99 or go more for a penetration strategy and build up a longterm model with what I think is more appropriate pricing from the consumer’s end (they are already touting DLC, they have invested in community management or at least hired Ignition to help them with that, and I don’t think anybody has doubts about a KOF XIII coming out eventually).

But I will reiterate… THE GAME IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE FIGHTING IS GOOD (except online, hoping the patch really helps).

Can you even sell ps3 games for less than 60? doesn’t sony force that price for new games or something?

I am very sure that Sony doesn’t force a $59.99 minimum MSRP on retail games. But stranger things have happened on consoles.

Anyways… Despite my comments on the pricepoint, I totally dig the action in the game and I hope there will be plenty of KOF XII matches to be had on either Wednesday (Ground Kontrol) or Thursday (Versis) nights this coming week

Hope BBH makes it out and is up for some KOF XII. I find myself liking KOF’s (or at least XII’s) pace more and more. And I’ve been making use of the info BBH referenced.

Is there a good wiki or central place for general KOF info in English? Or is it the usual forum scavenger hunt? I’m mostly looking for bread and butter stuff for the characters I’ve been playing (same trio as always: Kim, Kyo, Terry).

Had trouble digging through SRK’s KOF forums for info I was looking for and the wiki seems to have more XI info and I didn’t find much XII info at all.

Any favorite vids?

There is not really a wiki as far as I know. Dandy’s channel has some good stuff http://www.youtube.com/user/DandyDLC, but Ive never really seen a good Kim player so I can’t say. Also if you youtube search for Arcade Infinity and KOFXII you might find some good stuff.
