I hate for my n00bness to show but…what’s a Shoto?
any character with hurricane kicks, a fireball and an uppercut. basically ken/ryu/gouki
Thanks.
im mostly thinking of the sthd thread where you manage to complain more (about people complaining about the art) than people who actually complain about the art @___@
They’re all nerds.
Besides, aren’t you just complaining about me complaining about the people complaining about the art? Your complaints are cubic.
Clearly isn’t? How so? And if parry is so ‘not right’, why is it in CVS2? Why did Mark of the Wolves implement a similar system; although only with a Alpha counter style punishment causing knockdown, it allowed you to tap in the block position, being even less of a risk AND you got life back after you did it!
I never said it was “Totally different” just different. As in projectile spamming has been cut down, anti-air isn’t a definite, and I never said SF3 was more deep than other games.
If there is one problem, it’s the fact that there are people who hate the game and think it’s shallow shit, or fanboys who think its the be all and end all cause they think it’s deep as a black hole.
i was rocking third strike WAY BEfore tokido and his urien. showed us his unblockable…me and my friend john… luckily it allowed me to win a toruney…
but since i only had him as comp… everyone else caught up :).
i agree we dont want to be like den…we want to beat them
Who gives a sideways sloppy fuck who got first?
I didn’t start playing SF3 because I’m a Japanophile and want to be more like them. I started playing it because my Arcade got it, and it was new at the time. So fuck you.
off topic but, its not a coincidence that top 8 EVO placers never talk negatively about the game to a passionate degree.
the truth is less than 20% of SRK attends tournies for 3s, a good 50% + are qualified theory fighter youtube monkies who whine about what they think the game is about. if its coming from someone who has proven to know what the game is about(top placers), then there could be a real debate here. until then, all people are hearing is surface level sour talk that probably stems from bad experiences.
i don t know how much ego you must have to be able to sit at home and comment about something you know so little about with no credentials. shit i didn t even need to leave my house to find out that i m the world’s smartest player for not playing a “broken” ass game. i guess i m the only smart one and the other thousand are stupid, despite some of them being top university students.
at night, look at the stars and say “why are people so stupid? why can t they see what i see? or am i not seeing something they are? maybe i can t see past my own reasons?”.
its not enough to think something is “broken”, show it and prove your point. if its never countered and becomes the new unbeatable strategy, you ve proven your point.
also, if knowing the counter to something is enough to win games, a guy in africa right now is the best player in the world. knowing and doing is two different things, this game emphasizes that.
SRK actually still has theory fighters that don t realize theres no end to theory fighter, thats fuckin funny cause they are dead serious when they argue.
name anything you think is broken in the game, i will tell you the counter with my theory fighter skills too, lets rock.
example 1
**“alex can stomp and the opponent can hit any direction for a parry or block, thats stupid, that makes the move useless”
“why are you stupid enough to give him something you know has a easy counter? did you know the move can still be used at certain situations for a high success rate? did you stop to think your opponent might have the in-game knowledge to counter it? how is it the game’s fault that you have limited awareness?”**
example 2
**“parrying is stupid, i keep getting parried by guess parriers”
“why are you stupid enough to repeat something your opponent has proven that you can t trust him on? if you can t fit a square in a circle, why are you trying to force it in? have you stopped to think that your opponent might be purposely making you believe you can t trust him on that situation to gain the advantage of the threat(“respect”) when it happens? possibly for breathing room, your mom, etc. etc.? or perhaps to bait you to do the known counters that he himself might be ready to counter? maybe he s really just guessing and you simply have to counter. have you bothered to try to understand whats REALLY happening here? did you know there are 897345 things/techniques to neutralize or win out exactly what your whining about? is it possible that your a total douche?”**
here are two games layed out in 3s terms, the in-game science is of course more complicated than i make it seem but bear with it for a moment
ST-
clear choices: high attack/throw, low attack, high block, low block
maneuvers: forward jump, backward jump, neutral jump
3s-
clear choices: high attack, low attack, high parry, low parry, high block, low block, throw, tech
neutral choices: any kinda jump, UOH(counts as high but counts as airhit when hit), throw, tech
maneuvers: forward jump, backward jump, neutral jump, forward super jump, backward super jump, neutral super jump, forward dash, backward dash, roll out
my point here is, don t bash a game cause you don t have the experience to know what your options are. everything has a purpose in both games to help you win. both games emphasize different things, simple example for ST would be traps like boxer grab into mix. fireball traps. etc.
3s emphasizes doing a variety of everything, a simple example would be the “4 touch rule”, when you knock someone down, you can make them block 4 things before they are out of range, which means offensively/defensively, you have to do different things to minimize the risk of not getting parried.
this is 3s 101. do you really think short short is safe? what if i told you i ve set aside 5 mins in the past to learn to red parry those? just like in ST, you have to overcome your limitations to do what you want.
in 3s, you play for the final product.
i also like how people call 3s a guessing game when ALL fighting games are made of guessing if its not punishing. did you know for 100% sure i was gonna do a 2 frame move? you saw it with your eyes and reacted to it raw? do you speak with ms cleo often? cause if not, your full of shit and you don t even know about your own game of choice
WINNER!!
Im a nobody and don’t know a whole lot about anything, yet I would consider myself a newer player (started to seriously make a bid at playing in 04 with MVC2, 3s and Tekken 5), and yet I do feel some of the stuff that Duck strong and others have mentioned about 3s, even though I do enjoy playing it. Even though I love 3s, ST is definately >> 3s.
Everything in 3s is most certainly pretty circular. “ALMOST” no other serious fighter (especially amongst the serious tournament 2D fighters) I can think of is almost as plain in that regard as 3s is . You can have your setups spoiled by mashed in throws, or lose all of your advantage and a good deal of your life out of a parry, or some other random thing. When playing MOST other serious games you very rarely get the feeling that you lost to something random or get a bad taste in your mouth. Even if your a more seasoned player, you can lose to a gimmicky player or even a desperation wake up super or the like. Im not saying wakeup reversal super doesn’t work in ST, but because of the game being such a careful zoning game, it is far more limited and effective than it is in 3s, where even the timing is easier for a true reversal super.
Im NOT dogging 3s though (I can’t because Im garbage in it for one). I still love it, and I have two very good reasons for loving it. One is I still think even if the game is incredibly circular in comparison to the other serious 2D fighters, you generally still have multiple matches to figure out your opponent, and if you have played long enough to know what you need to know and feel comfortable with all of your tools than you should win even if you lose individual matches here and there. And two because Tekken 5/DR was my main game for over two years now and I recently dropped it because you almost CAN’T get ANY more random than that game (and Im not too happy about T6 either) so coming from that experience, 3rd Strike really is baby milk in the random department.
Anyways, just some thoughts, if anything is wrong feel free to correct it. No offense to anyone of course.
Edit: Just wanted to reiterate that Im not trying to say 3s is a shitty game. Not by a long shot. I highly enjoy it and will always try and play it, In a nutshell Im just saying that it’s not as consistent on a gameplay standpoint as ST, or other games out there (I would mention CVS2 but because I haven’t delved to deeply in it I don’t want to make premature comments).
