Even if they were free, it wouldn’t change the situation that much. They will kill the balance and make the gameplay joyless. But of course nothing can be said for sure until the game’s released. I’ll buy it anyway. Not many fighting games are available for PC.
considering they emphasized that they were makeing sure that the gems stay balanced, i don’t see balance going out the window. I think you’ll see trends with gems where when someone shows off what one can do everyone will pick up on that gem, but other than that I really dont see much of a difference balance will be affected between gems and ultras
having a gem activate comes at the cost of a meter and it’s only active for a certain amount of time. The stronger gems will obviously be active less time or harder to activate while the weakers ones will have a longer activation time or be easier to activate

You can edit your character’s colors! I remember doing this in Alpha 3, was hella fun. Made a suave, swarthy Vega with platnium blond hair. Also made a bad-ass original Ryu in an all black outfit, with royal blue gloves/headband. Another positive note to this game, since I really don’t know how I feel about these gems yet. Hopefully your custom-colored characters can transfer to online play, just to show off.
Of course they will it wouldn’t make any sense if they didn’t.

even if you have to pay for each color individually? The shopping carts are NOT appealing to me. It makes me wonder if they are going to charge for each color for each area for each character for each costume…

Vega is confirmed as you can see that is a SFxT stage in the background where they show Sodom being chased by Hagar i think. But yea he will prolly be playable in next year updated beta versions with beta gems in for players to get a feel of gems and new characters.
