Double post FTL.
This post is pretty God damned ignorant.
There is no such thing as “talent”. Its hard work and dedication.
Daigo started playing 17 years ago in Japan.
That is why he is so good.
From my experience if you played in Japan for years you will be a lot better then if you played in the states. Thats what happened to me when I stayed there for 2 weeks. I got good because I adapted and learned from them from a wide variety of games.
Its all about how much you practice against good players.
I got a 935ms reaction, 5090 points, and 100% accuracy. Is that good?
^^^its… ok… (better than me though )
my highest now is 966 98% 6140
MagnetoManiac was killin it on the chun forums though… he got something like 650ms 100% 9500 points… that boy is fast.

740ms, 98%, 61 correct, 7640 points 8)
I still suck in SF4, though.
The geometric symbols seem to be a little easier for me.
8540 99% 662ms 67 correct on my third try…the secret is to play it mute, say yes or not when the figure match or dosent and never miss, good link anyway.I think it could be done a lot faster but its 4.00 AM here, gonna try tomorrow xD
The question is how many times did he get to try it? That score was my first run.
thing is though hes kinda right as theres not really any real way to prove that sombody is just born with more ‘natural talent’ than anybody else especially in terms of playing a videogame.
sure some people may have faster reaction times than other people which is no doubt important for a lot of stuff, but when you train yourself everyday to react quicker to everything (like you do on streetfighter) its hard if not impossible to say that X person is ‘just more talented’ than someone else who doesnt play as much.
iv taken a couple of weeks off playing SF and im sucking so bad at it atm then again i havent really got the enthusiasm to fight endless ryus online all day either…
what is it about the post that was so ignorant? seems pretty ignorant to me you dont offer any explanation to why you think it is.
If you can’t excel with talent, triumph with effort.
870ms reaction, 100% acc, 53 correct, 6440 points first try on that game.
you got talent (which would be weird for a thing as SF), and reaction speed.
Some people simply have a faster reaction speed, mothorics etc.
So i think it gives you an advantage, but that doesn’t mean others can’t become good.
wow… I see so many losers that become English teachers just so they can read manga, try to get some tail, and play some good level comp in the arcade. That dont always work out, but gas panic does suprise me sometimes…
good idea if you want to waste your life, but save your money and just move to Cali/NY where you can get an education/job, still have a chance at asian tail, and still have the good ol’ comp.
japan > the rest of the world in SF, but look at DucDuo (spelling?), he came from out of the blue, never heard of before, blah, he took 1st in MVC2 at Evo2k5. I know Japan is not all that good in MVC and that we are talking about SF4, but just an example.
I see it sorta funny having Jwong’s name next to Daigo up and down this thread… [no flame]
but overall, this game is online, moving to japan/cali/ny is not even necessary.
STFU with that. talent is how motzart was able to perform before he hit puberty, and how them little girls can get gold medals in the olympics…
talent is a major factor in any skill related factor. hard work and dedication just move you towards your plateu
this is very true, when ever i go back home, comp at most arcades are just a yawn. just not worth moving here just for comp unless tournys get you major cash
but… GGPO and PSN/XBL do wonders.
errr. i think thats mainly down to the fact they are like training for about 12 hours a day everyday of the week. esp the chinese, the conditions the girls train in for gymnastics and stuff are known across the globe pretty much.
yeah the gymanstics teams for the olympics esp the chinese are notorious for raising them from infancy to be the best gymnasts
Talent and 50 cents will buy you a soda.
When anyone fails in any endeavor, it is because they lack the faith and dedication and the mindset to deal with repeated failure. Just because you can’t get to the level of the pros overnight isn’t a reason to say “Oh he’s just more talented than me.” No. He’s more dedicated than you. He learns, he asks questions, he plays-win or loss, he explores options.
People’s excuse of “I’m just not talented enough” is bullshit. You just lack the mindset necessary for success. Plain and simple.
Put it this way…
you play Street Fighter so you can get it right
Daigo plays street Fighter so he can’t get it wrong
He is talented and has a drive beyond anyone of us. I would love to play Street Fighter like that. However, I don’t have the drive to because I enjoy other things as well.
To the guy above me, if Daigo wasn’t talented he wouldn’t rape every in Guilty Gear.
In the end, is talent not just the aptitude of an individual towards a given subject? To say that without talent he wouldn’t be good at what he does is probably, to some degree, correct; but only in that it would take him longer to learn what it is he needed to learn.
Talent isn’t an inborn capability people have. You aren’t born and are like “I CAN GO BUILD A HOUSE!” that implies prior experience and knowledge that you have no experience or knowledge of.
What talent is however, is one’s natural ability to learn. The word talent is thrown around loosely as a substitute for being good at it, so when people read things they think “You don’t have any talent” refers to “You’re no good” which isn’t true.
Talent also incorporates things that don’t fall under the specific subject at hand, so a better word, in my opinion, would be aptitude. If Daigo is a talented fighting game player, it’s most likely that he already had most of the skills necessary to BE good at them coupled with a naturally high rate of learning towards that subject.
I am not a talented FPS player, but I am good at FPS games. I am a talented MMO player, I excel at that field of gaming. I have above-average interpersonal, abstract thinking, problem solving, leadership, math, and multitasking skills. These are all things that I can be good at outside of playing MMO’s, however it predisposes me to being good at MMO’s because that’s basically all of the skills required to BE good at an MMO on top of learning them at a significantly faster rate than other people.
perfectly agree, except i would state that having a high “aptitude” towards any given subject is, in fact, a talent… ie something that you’re born with, but has to be nurtured to be developed to its fullest extent.

those (asian language i am not familiar with) characters are tough. shapes are pretty easy tho. got 937 98% and 4460 on my 4th try. feels like its easier every time tho.
reaction time is okay if you are looking for a way to quantify skill, but i think fighters are more about reading your opponent, and putting yourself in a position where you can make those reads easier. imo experience is the only way to improve that aspect of play
Be good at MMO’s? You lost me. Multi-tasking in MMO = ??? Problem solving in MMO = rinse and repeat. Math = not so crucial when you just need to know averages and basically memorize things like a chart.
Aside from your example I kinda agree. But no matter how you slice it, Michael Vick isn’t a great QB. But he is talented and got his team to the NFC championship game.
Or, Chad Pennington is a football genius. Guy doesn’t have an arm. Moves like a slug, but somehow wins games. Their talents differ.
Vick was born with better physical qualities, you can’t say he wasn’t.
Talen does fall under the subject you are talking about. Talent is verified under specific conditions. I’m tired as hell so if i’m not making any sense forgive me.
