No offense Richard, but most of these tabs suck. There are many mistakes, and it’s not suited well for guitar (like you have to jump on the fretboard like crazy, and many open strings), and… well… they’re all incomplete.

Of course you gotta practice tabbing to become good at it, but you should still wait and post these tabs because you might just end up misteaching alot of people.

I take some of your points. However:
[]Nearly all my SF tabs are incomplete. But when you think about it, most SF music boils down to a simple 10 note melody, so this doesn’t matter too much. That’s the main, recognizable, fun part. Also, I try to keep every tune to one set of lines, and to 80 characters wide, so they can be printed on a variety of print/monitor/software settings.
[
]Inaccuracies - not that I’d noticed. But if you spot any, feel free to say (and maybe even provide a better version in the spirit of collaboration- that’s part of the reason I do it- to start the ball rolling, and give people the idea in the first place. This is a discussion board, and I see it as a place to get feedback on drafts before publishing in an archive).
[]Suitability- well, sure. With the exception of SFEX, nearly everything Capcom ever did was synthesized. But in any case, not many people here play the flute or harpsichord, so of course it’s gonna have to be converted to work on a guitar. And I put them on open strings where possible, with minimal stretching, etc. In any case, lots of songs in the key of G, for example, are played with nothing above the 3rd fret for the verses and chorus, and yet when you get to the solo, it’s all up on 15 and 17th- it can’t be helped.
[
]Plus, in some cases, it’s obvious that two parts of the same tab are on 2 or 3 vastly different instruments (eg Yun), and in that case, you wouldn’t want to play the whole thing by yourself anyway. And finally, if you’re in a band and going to play a full song live, you’ll be good enough to transpose to other strings as needed (and to work out the remaining notes, since you’ll know the key).
There’s obviously been renewed interest in TS of late, so here are some expanded versions of my stuff from last year:

PS: has everybody heard about the phenomenon of ?

Looking back, all the attachments seem to have gone. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there doesn’t seem to be any way to get a couple of the old SFII tabs from p1 any more. Hence Drag’s contributions (with minor embellishments from me):

I’ve been in a retro mood lately, so did 3 songs from the original FF (they were also remixed for Streetwise). I also finally decided to go back and pick one of the two versions of the classic Ryu stage from before, and lengthen it.

Had some spare time this week, so worked on getting some more oldies up to scratch:

WW Honda (Super version starts on B then A)

d:---------- --2---2--2---------2-0-2--0--------0-2h0----------

G:-------------------------- -2---2--0-2---0-2-2-----------------------------------
D:-------------------------- -0---0----2-----2-------------------------------------
A:-------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------

Zangief revisited (Super is up 2 frets, giving a nice open E bassline)
b:----------- ---------------------------------------------- -10-10-11-8-10--15-
g:----------- ----5----------------------------------------- -------------------
d:--0-2-3-5-- --7---7-5-7-5--------------------------------- -------------------
a:----------- ---------------7-0-3-0-?-0---0-1---1-1-3------ -------------------
e:----------- -----------------------3---3-----3--------0-3- -------------------

Blanka (Super up a semitone)
E:--------------------- --------- ---------------3- -1----- -7-7- -14-12-10-7-
b:--------------------- --------- -------1-3-1-3--- -3-1-1- ----- ------------
g:--------------------- --------- -0-0-0----------- ------- ----- ------------
d:----1------------1--- -----1-3- ----------------- ------- ----- ------------
a:--3---3--3-3-3-3---3- -3-3----- ----------------- ------- ----- ------------
e:--------------------- --------- ----------------- ------- ----- ------------

As you can see, some tumes move up or down on CPS2 compared to the CPS1 version, and many later games are in the same key as the CPS2 versions. Except for HD Remix, which are all over the place.

Some mistakes (check out the bolded):

WW Honda (Super version starts on B then A)
E:---------- ----------------------------------------------------
b:---------- ----------------------------------------------------
g:---------- ----0------0-2-2-0----------------------------------
d:---------- --2---2--2---------2-0-2--0--------0-2h0------------
a:--0----0-- ----------------------------**3**-0--3-------3-0------0-
e:-----3---- ----------------------------------------------3-**0**---

Though this whole version is pretty much unplayable with all the open strings. You don’t want to have a bunch of open strings when playing a lead melody like this, since then you can’t add vibrato and you’ll just lack control in general.

Chun (Super starts on a B)
E:-----------1----------5-3- ---0--------------------------------0-1-3-0-0---0-(0)-
B:-3-3-1-1-3---3-3-1-1-3---- -3---3-1----1-------1-3-3p1h3-3p1h3-----------3-------
G:-------------------------- -2---2--0-2---0-2-2-----------------------------------
D:-------------------------- -0---0----2-----2-------------------------------------
A:-------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------

The whole second part of this one makes no sense at all. The whole melody and key seems to be wrong. Besides, it’s all the way down there on the fretboard, making it very unpractical to play anyway. :xeye:

Zangief revisited (Super is up 2 frets, giving a nice open E bassline)
b:----------- ---------------------------------------------- -10-10-11-8-10--15-
g:----------- ----5----------------------------------------- -------------------
d:--0-2-3-5-- --7---7-5-7-5--------------------------------- -------------------
a:----------- ---------------7-0-3-0-?-0---0-1---1-1-3------ -------------------
e:----------- -----------------------3---3-----3--------0-3- -------------------

Again I don’t really understand what is going on after the first part. Plus again, lots of open strings, weird jumps, unplayable.

Blanka (Super up a semitone)
E:--------------------- --------- ---------------3- -1----- -7-7- -14-12-10-7-
b:--------------------- --------- -------1-3-1-3--- -3-1-1- ----- ------------

Nothing at all seems to be right here. Have you tried entering your tabs in GuitarPro or TabIt or something and listened to the result? I really recommend that, so you can hear immediately if something is off while entering the tab.

The reply:

Ok, yep, thanks very much. Two notes corrected. Not bad though, for a whole line of tab. Seems like a lot of other people agree with me as well, mine have formed the basis of at least 5-10 other (very thorough) tabs from other people (Cammy, etc)

Personal preference I guess. Some people (and especially guitar beginners) just find it easier to play on open and low-numbered frets. Less counting, less chance of rattle, etc. And again, if you’re looking to slide and bend, you’re probably good enough to shift it to another string yourself.

As I said above, and before, the key can change between games (even between consecutive games in the same year like SF2 Hyper Fighting and New Challengers). Sometimes it’s one fret down, sometimes it’s 8 full keys up. Super SF2, which is obviously not the original game, now seems to have become accepted as the standard, so when the tunes are used in Alpha or a Vs game like Namco or Tatsunoko, they sometimes (but not always) adopt the changed key from Super SF2. Then ST HD R comes along and stuffs it all!

I generally don’t bother with software, except for a few times a long time ago when I was creating a small number of midis. I have tried my tabs on both guitar and piano though (sometimes even a year or two later, and they still made sense to me).

Just to keep them categorised by game, see guitarmasta.net

I can play the FF7 theme song on piano as unrelated as that is

^ good stuff.

Anyway, here are 2 songs which are unpopular and/or not heard as often:

SF3:NG Gill "The Judgment Day"

b:----------5-5-3--------3-3-1-- -------------3-3---------
g:------------------------------ --2----------------------
d:--5s6s5----------4s5s4-------- --2----------------------
a:------------------------------ --0----------------------

Comments welcome as always. This is just about it for SFIII (I probably won’t bother with character select, blocking, or the game over jingle).

Bump to prevent deletion

Hmm, I’ve not played SFxT, but it would appear listening to Youtube that Cody’s theme (tab on previous page) makes it in during round 3 of the Mad Gear Hideout stage, which is full circle considering it originally came from FF’s intro. And Rolento’s theme from Alpha 2 is in Mad Gear round 1, with the Metro City Subway theme being round 2…

Great thread, just wish I could see the attachments to the posts :(.

An now for something a bit more recent.
