The magicbox converter is good. My buddy used his Tekken 5 Hori stick on it with no problems. My other friend uses a PS2 pad w/ no problems, and I use a Saturn pad w/ no problems. DC stuff works perfectly on it too.
I recently got a PS2 Saturn pad (this puppy http://www.ncsxshop.com/cgi-bin/shop/CS1-0001.html), now convert it through magicbox and it works fine (it also lets me pick the secret colors, which the regular Saturn pad does not).
So now I use a Saturn pad made for PS2 converted through magicbox for Xbox. Thats pretty fucking confusing right there.
No man, none at all. We tried all kinds of shit too (Dc controllers, AgeTec DC stick, Saturn controllers, 3 different PS2 Hori sticks, PS2 controllers, Saturn PS2 controllers all work great). We even took the SF:Aniversary stick, put the PS2 end into the magicbox. Everything works lag-free.
my biggest issue with street fighter on ps2 or xbox is the HK and HP buttons, they’re sorta not in an ideal place for me. Especially compared to arcade. In fact, when I play it on DC I reconfigure my controller to whatever character i’m using like Ken no LP and no LK and I use a macro for the L trigger for LP+LK. Maybe It’s just too many snk games or something, but I never use more than 4 buttons these days.
exactly which is why I don’t see how any of you can argue that ps2 controller is all that, seeing as to how you’re using the L and R trigger for button presses. Which is also why I play on stick for those systems. I guess it’s my own personal handicap, using the L and R buttons has never really been a thing for me.
That is the same beef that everyone who uses controllers has. Thats why most console SF players who don’t use sticks prefer that Saturn controller, simply because it has six face buttons. Every current controller, PS2, Xbox, DC, only has 4 face buttons, forcing you to use triggers. It makes doing simple shit, like Ken’s MP - HP target combo in 3s, a chore.
Plus the Saturn pad just had a really nice D-pad (not too loose, not to tight, not too big, not too small, just right), unlike those Aniversary controllers they have out now.
But everyone has their preference. My friend TJ is an absolute beast w/ the PS2 controller (you may have seen his match or combo videos a while back on ComboVideos under the name SFManiac), and my friend chris uses a DC pad (which I used for a long time too back in the day). So to each his own.
I’m used to playing with the Dualshock 2. I’m one of the few people who actually likes the Controller S a lot for fighting games, but I use a Dualshock 2 on my Xbox (through a Magic-Box converter) just because all of the 3S and #R tournaments around here are run on ps2. I have a NeoGeo Pad 2 with six face buttons, and while it works great for button presses in 3S, I just can’t stand the little control stick that it uses. With it, I can’t DP from the right side consistently.
In retrospect I should’ve gone with the ps2 Saturn pad, but of course that’s easy to say now. As it is, I’m just getting used to using the Dualshock 2 for 3S because I don’t feel like spending even more money on another controller. At least I don’t have any problems with it for #R (even RCs are easy.)
So are you saying that it’s not worth buying the Dreamcast Version then, because I’m looking at getting it on Dreamcast although I have the anniversary collection for PS2 (which one is closer to the arcade version, DC or PS2?)
Stick with the PS2 version as it is arcade perfect input wise, the DC version has input lag which means the timing of hit confirming is off and certain combos are not possible.
here’s the thing tho. if you are looking to compete. you cant assign macros or shortcut buttons(example: PPP being mapped to L2). that is prohibited pretty much universally. it is considered a cheat, since it eliminates human error completely. most match outcomes can be determined on human error on poor execution. having those shortcuts eliminates much of that.
