Heheh, way ahead of ya. There were a couple of tournies like that a couple of years ago. Each team had a name and all that. Really cool idea, but it was also kind of hard to implement because of schedules, player locations, things like that. It was awesome to be a part of a team both as a player and as a character. Especially in 98, where your characters were in the background and reacting to things during the fight.
Man gbursine, u took the words out of my mouth. I thnk tournies are an awesome idea. I agree with the other guy about how 0.64 or more standard but thats okay ill just DL the other one. Hey put Last Blade2 on your list, thats an awesome game. MVC doubles tournaments would be good too, not to mention 6 player KOF game. I guess if we make teams were gonna have to get ppl who are not too far becasue of lag. It would be nice to make the online scene bigger. As a random suggestion, it would be cool to have a ranking or record in a season then play ppl to be at the top in different games. Maybe the person in secong place gets a shot at the top person.
from my experience (and i’ve been running touraments
on kaillera for over a year now), mame is a difficult
emulator to use, at least for the people that participate
in my tournaments. until about two months ago, we strickly
used kawaks1.49 but decided to give mame.64 a try and it
turned out to be more hassle than it was worth. we ended
up switching back and forth between kawaks and mame during
that tournament and i can say kawaks made things a lot easier
for me as the organizer and has less problems than mame.
the only problem with using kawaks for tournaments is the
prospect of having macro’s but you just have to have trust
in the players you play with. i know for a fact that none
of the players on my forums that participate in the tourn-
aments use autofire and i trust them on that.
so in terms of standards, this is what i suggest;
emulator: kawaks 1.49
format: double elimtination
matches: 3of5 or more.
servers: i strictly enforce one server location
unless both players agree on another
server that fits their needs more.
misc: i almost strickly enforce that the tournament
take place in one day, with all the participants
on at the same time instead of staggering the
matches, setting dates for each match. things lag
and get hectic when you allow the players to sched-
ule their own matches.
a lot of people doubt these methods but they work
and have things run efficiently and smoothly. i try
to mimic how i run tournaments in socal (which i’ve
run quite a few).

system and results, feel free to visit www.overdrive06.net
I dont mind using Kawaks but for some reason i have 15 games on mame and like 4 on kawaks, the games i have nvr work on kawaks. I did the directory thing but nothing. but hope there a tourney soon.
In my opinion, Kof98 and 2002 are the only games with enough tournament balance.
[For the record, it should be a sin if Garou isn’t in this gb] :encore:
how does like thurs night or fri night next week sound?
mame v.64
w/e game… is up for suggestions(INCLUDE VERSION SO EVERYONE CAN GO HUNTING)
also, i was thinking of just having everyone in the tourney simultaneously in an aim chatroom or somethin so that there would be less bs to worry bout
i’m play but i suck diddly uck… heh
Kawaks is the standard for retards who dont know any better.
Theres been a bunch of tourneys held, and Mame .64 is the standard mame to use, who the hell uses .62 anymore? Now lets not argue about games, what we just need is a centralized location (hey, SRK!) to set these things up… Thats one of the major problems with tournaments on kaillera, they are scattered, loosely ran, and the majority of players didnt know they were going on. Also, there was practically no communication between participants in some of the more poorly run tourneys.
First thing first, get everyone signed up ahead of a time, set dates, make a thread for the game for people to get the word out.
On the scheduled time, get everyone in an IRC chatroom. I can’t stress this enough, AIM chats just dont do it for whats needed. It needs some type of moderation when shit gets out of hand getting everyone together.
Now, this original method doesnt work if you do this new tournament style - Everyone plays their games whenever during an expanse of a week. I dunno why some people have been trying this method, but it sucks ass… concidering the flakyness of people as is, it really never works well with a large enough crowd. Getting everyone assembled in one spot is way easier to manage.
Now, once everyone is there, its just up to you to have everyone msg their results/etc, and just pop it into the brackets and get that shit done; running brackets is way easier on a computer.
Matches should be held based on locations, since server locations can cause such a problem. Its a good idea to work with many of the participants or getting help during that time to open up a couple private servers across the nation, as its easier for everyone than joining a shitty public server and having it go down in the middle of your matches.
Ive been apart of tourneys way back when, Mr. Big knows his shit, too. Ive been keeping up with the tourneys since then, and theyve all been pretty shitty, besides those old ones, where everyone got everything under control and shit. And yeah, those team games were fun. Though nowadays its hard as hell to get going smoothly.
hey, you’re cool. way to be a fucknut. but i’m not even gonna’ get on that shit.
kawaks is a perfectly fine emulator and from my experience, along with a buncha’ other people’s, it runs a lot better than mame and doesnt have nearly as many problems.
if you have some special configurations that make your games not run like shit on mame, feel free to share. but until you can make my shit run smooth on mame.64 like on kawaks, you can shut the fuck up, tryin’ to sound all ruff and shit.
i agree with you on the other standards; havin’ everyone in one spot, havin’ the tourney take place at one time instead of over a week, or whatever.
i’ve been runnin’ tournaments for a longass time now and they’ve all been smooth ‘cept when mame.64 was used. you just gotta’ know how to run your shit, where to run it, when to run it.
