Just started playing again after months not doing so (never was good to start with so the whole “noob!” thing isn’t needed, though feel free certainly) due to a screwed up ps3, so just tried picking up seth over the past 1-3 days … can’t quite remember … so trying to get a feel for him still.

Not everything that comes out is what I want though, feels like inputs are dropped or going nuts at times, but for now I’m putting that down to human error and lag.

Just watched the first two rounds, FP headbutt is punishable on block with mk firework kicks.

]If you’re gonna reversal SPD on your wakeup, do an EX SPD. Seth doesn’t need that much meter, and it will beat pokes as well as throws and blocking. It also does more damage. Don’t reversal much with Seth, though, unless it’s a KKK teleport backwards.
[]Learn the ultra followup trap. You throw a lp sonic boom. You can then do a teleport and mix up which way they have to block the sonic boom. You combo into cr.lk xx cr.lp -> cr.mp xx mk Hyakuretsu. Even if you don’t have the trap down, throw a lp sonic boom so you can walljump in better.

]Teleport -> SPD is a gimmick, not a legitimate offense. Good players will punish a teleport in every time. At least do an EX SPD so you don’t get beat by pokes.

Seriously, combo execution is huge for Seth, because if you fuck up once, you probably lose at least half your healthbar.

Yeah, can’t really seem to execute the combos onlines since I tend to rely more in visual and audio cues to do so, with lag involved they don’t work most of the time, in practice and against CPU I get them pretty consistent thought still not 100%. But thanks for the other tips.

Obviously you’ve never had your lp shoryu trade with a jump-in. LP shoryu -> stomps is good versus certain jump-ins at certain distances, especially if you throw it out early, but I’d rather do a deep FP shoryu versus characters like Zangief and Blanka. Sometimes I’ll even do an EX shoryu as anti-air just to make sure I don’t trade, because Seth can’t afford that. Guile’s jump in hk is pretty good.

Versus Chun and Dictator, you can usually do mp shoryu -> stomps because they have such high jumps. This is much better because of the better invincibility.

Okay, I got confused about what video you were quoting. I thought it was the Evo 5 on 5 video. The point still stands that lp shoryu has shitty priority as anti-air, and Rufus and Akuma both have jump-ins that will trade with it unless it’s done early - and you can’t afford to trade with it. So why don’t you stop telling Arturo how to play Seth?

I was able to record some matches with me playing as Seth. I decided to play with Seth instead of Zangief, and wanted some advice from anybody that could help me get better with Seth. This is just some casual fights I have had on G2. Two match ups I have problems with are M.Bison and Blanka if anyone has good tips for those.

Well as for the Dictator matchup, i use jump back HP to counter his headstomps, as i find it much safer (but then again jump(back)HP is my main attack anyway =P)

VS Blanka you have to learn what’s punishable. blocked blanka horizontal roll = punishable by long arms, super and ultra. blocked rainbow roll = punishable by forwad jump headstomps+divekick, super (i think) and ultra. Vertical roll that misses ends up above your head so neutral jump headstomps+divekick. You had both ultra and super, and he did throw out quite a few rolls, so you had the opportunity to take that match.

All in all you have a Seth that would probably beat me in a mirror match (but then…i do despise mirror matches =) )

vs Blanka:

Note that I usually offer more positive advice, but giving negative points is easier and I already spent to goddamn long on this. You know the combos, but you need to learn just how ridiculously good j.fp is, how to do Seth’s mixups and blockstrings, and how to be consistent with your combos. You also need to learn how to reversal back teleport, EX SPD, and wakeup block. Don’t panic and hold up back the whole round. Also, be more patient on offense. Throw more fp Sonic Booms. Don’t jump in so much. Learn how to scare an opponent with random s.fp. You gotta be better at Seth’s fireball trap, because it’s really good. Seth’s ultra becomes basically free in a fireball trap.

I appreciate the time you spent on this and you’re really helpful on the Seth subforum, but i think he can see for himself that for example he missed a divekick?

Personally i would have skipped the second by second review and stuck with the end:

Can’t recommend doing a blockstring into sonic boom, especially against dictator. With your crappy recovery he can EX scissors or worse probably ultra.
