Seth Video Thread

I haven’t played the super characters enough to give much character specific advice really, but here’s my take anyway:

Gonna start from second round as you didn’t really do anything first round

0:51 - going for s.hp at the start of the round is never a good idea, it’s too punishable and Seth can’t afford to take chances like that (and j.hp punishes most of what s.hp punishes and more anyway), also I don’t understand the 1 second gap of no movement before hand.

0:56 - random guess srk is easily punishable and quite a bad idea here, as you find out a second later

1:12 - use a blockstring, I really don’t believe you hitconfirmed that

1:16 - I guess this was a mistake but you shouldn’t have walljumped here as firstly you had a 100% unpunishable free stomp you didn’t use, but then the divekick at the end would of put you at frame advantage still and Seth as a character is all about momentum, you really can’t afford to give up opportunitys like that! Especialy as you didn’t look comftable zoning guy, you would have never managed to take 80% of his life without him hitting you.

1:20 - low block more

1:42 - ?

1:46 - you had the advantage here but just blocked and let him try and get in on your still

1:48 - low block more

1:54 - low block more

1:56 - random wakeup dp was a bad idea

1:58 - low block more (seriously, his slide is free ultra or non-c.hp combo)

2:04 - commentator is a moron

2:12 - bad spacing, seth has awful sb recovery

2:49 - s.hp at this range is never a good idea, if you want a poke use s.hk

3:04 - commentator is a moron

3:04 - could have punished with ultra

3:06 - j.mp if anything here

3:07 - low block more

3:10 - lp.srk > stomps reset OR ex.srk > ultra 2 OR if you want to kill him and forget about your meter ex.srk > ex tanden > c.hp xx lp.srk > ultra 2

3:19 - I guess you could have hp.srk FADC ultra2 here for the kill

3:21 - commentator is a moron

3:24 - shouldn’t have done that, punishable

Misc. advice:
hp.srk FADC sometimes
spd more, it’s one of the main reasons seth isn’t just some third rate akuma
try and work out better when you can and can’t tanden
try and get better timing on j.hp instead of just throwing it out when you jump
be more (smart) aggressive, a lot of the time it seems you would just play defensivley until inevitably guy would get in and damage you.

Hawkins, hit me up on Xbox sometime. Possibly a FR =D

Would love to, but unless you’ve moved to Europe since setting your location I don’t think it would be playable! :<

Damn I didnt notice your Loc. sad face

Thanks, HawkinsT, for the advice. I’ll try to apply it in later games XD

what do you Seth players think about this match?

I think Hiropon is one of the best Seth players around. He has so much experience with Seth and against high level players, he also plays very intelligently, generally makes good choices. I don’t know much about who he was playing but it seemed both players respected each other and played a very clinical, precise, patiant game.

Why do you ask?

It’s a replay I got from the replay channel; I really enjoyed the match and was just wondering what people who play Seth thought about as since I don’t know Seth, they could provide some interesting insight.

I always enjoy watching Hiropon play, although I don’t think the Ryu knew the matchup too well and so just decided to try and hang back and zone (which is why he got caught by both super and ultra - though I’m impressed Hiropon managed to get the super out in time online, must have had a good connection as the timing’s pretty tight).

On the Hiropon side of things I didn’t find the match too exciting - it looked to me like he thought/knew he could beat the other guy just by zoning him, and could see the other guy was just going to try and zone him, so decided to play it safe and not really take any (calculated) risks, so the match basicly came down to a slow take down of the Ryu’s life until his inevitable defeat. What happened in the second round is the Ryu actualy switched his range up a bit and tried to rush down a little, which worked out for him.

Damn man. Tokido plays a mean Seth.

Hiropon is awesome man.
Seth is kinda look down upon in the states. You don’t see many Seth users here.

Glad to catch up on some good vids of Seth play.
IDk why, but I love Seth mindfucking opponents to perfects.

SETHS SUPER

What the fuck was HIRPON DOING!?

Anyways, he used HP.Super, of course it didn’t work. If he used LP-Super, it’d do just fine. That’s what he gets for going hero. ¬__¬

LOL what a troll…

I actually didn’t know Seth’s super could punish full screen fireballs. Never seen anyone try it before. Shows how much I know the character

Awesome match.

You have to react pretty quick in most cases so you won’t see it much in vids of online matches, and super gets beaten by most EX fireballs so you have to be carefull not to waste your super.

First, he did not intend to do Super at all, he meant to do HP SRK x3, but ended up executing the 2nd hit too early.

This has happened to me in tournament before, and it’s the worst fucking feeling in the world.

Actualy I believe he was going for sb xx super after the s.hp.

That happens to me a lot too. Half the time I end up just trying to burn an EX bar if I’m at full meter so I don’t accidentally throw out the super.

The super should just suck them in or something, or just make Srk not super cancellable, I’d love that. Who the fuck does Super after srk anyway.
