Seth Video Thread

nova’s pretty much got it. i do it the same motion as you; make sure you start at :r: or :df: and end at :ub: because what could be happening is this:
You’re not starting at a forward position and just jump canceling into tanden.
You’re ending too early and getting a tandem.
That’s pretty much it. Hit the training mode and work on those standing 360s. Also if you’re doing dash under crossup or teleport or landing the dive kick you can buffer the 360 (like, a full 360) mid-dash or recovering from the other moves. The game saves motions for longer than you’d think.

Don’t compare me to Sabin. I’m not a pro. I’m just a decent local player.

I’ve never had the problem with Tanden Engine from walk-under SPD.

Like SaikyoBeast said, just make sure you get the full 270 motion for the SPD. I still get fail engine or boom sometimes because I didn’t exaggerate the motion, so I suggest doing a whole 360 every time. But you already said you exaggerate the motion, so I dunno. Make sure you start with forwards or backwards for the SPD ajd rotate downwards. This makes sure you don’t jump, and allows you to get a full 360 easier.

Go into training mode and look at your inputs when you fail.

I figure I’d post this up from my match in Tournament Wars (Seattle Based SF4 league that just started) a couple weeks ago. Before you watch the video, I didn’t land a single BnB, which makes me retarded. I kept switching between my EX2 and my Sanwa’d out SE that week so I was a little off everytime.

Same video has me playing a Gouken and Vega.

Edit: TW is a 3v3 Team league, Poke’mon style. Those matches are back to back.

P.S. Learnin how to tic throw this week.

Nice stuff, I like that headstomp >> divekick >> EX SPD move you do. Will definitely try to incorporate that into my play, looks solid.

It’s just a little mix-up I’m exploiting until people catch on. It works in the sense that after you headstomp someone standing, without knocking them down, they try to get a free poke in. The Dive kick -> Ex SPD makes it so you can land and have those 4 frames of Invincibility so their poke just became a helping hand in terms of how far your SPD will grab.

It was fun times. I’m sorry I’m not good, but being my first fighting game ever (Only played since the console release), I learned my first combo ever a month after Evo.

If this is your first fighting game, then you’re doing really well. I just have a few suggestions:
[]Lay off the reversal shoryukens. They’re not worth it. In order to be a good Street Fighter player, you have to have good defense as well as offense. Blocking and teching throws on reaction is your best option usually on your wakeup, except maybe versus Zangief or when they’re crossing you up. Seth’s backwards KK teleport is really good, but the other ones suck on wakeup. Seth’s backdash is pretty good, but on wakeup it’s basically a shorter teleport with less recovery and invincibility. The point is that if you are predictable on your wakeup, you will be punished by smart opponents, period. The Vega in the second video was a good example.
[
]You gotta get down cr.lk xx cr.lp -> cr.mp xx Hyakuretsu. This is Seth’s most important combo. Otherwise you don’t get a knockdown/reset off of a blockstring, and that’s important. Having a good blockstring game will also make your tick throws scarier.

With Seth, if you’re gonna tick throw, usually you should use SPD in the tick throw. Just cr.lp xx cr.lp -> lp SPD will do wonders at breaking people open.
do you have any videos up anywhere? cuz you really seem to know your stuff and i’d like to see it in practice.

I’ve searched but no avail…

I’m going to just bullet responses because I feel very similar.

 1. I mainly used Reversal SRKs because I have played this Gouken player many a times, his ONLY transportation on the level is DemonFlip-Parry, so a Reversal SRK seemed like a viable way to punish (Armor-breaking and all).

 2. I almost always use RDP K Teleport on wake-up, but being I’ve played so many of the people up here already, they are ready to punish, which is why I attempted at “mixing up” per say my wake-up. I don’t like the idea of ONLY teleporting, so you’re idea on backdashing is a serious improvement I plan to make by my next match this saturday.

 3. I have that combo down, it’s just I was being an idiot and switched sticks last minute. I usually play on my SE with Sanwa parts, but for some reason decided to play with my friends Hori EX2. I didn’t want to believe there was a difference, but I almost always hit my combos on my SE, and not hitting it once in those two matches really makes me begin to question it. I believe it to be mostly psychological, but I’m contemplating that maybe the two sticks have a different timing? I don’t want to blame the stick for my inadequacies, which is why I will be practicing my combos on the same stick I will be using for the next one.

 4. Tick throw SPD is what I meant, but also Tick throw normal grabs are effective from what I can tell. I have found what I believe a very good Block string that scares opponents, maybe you guys would like to try it sometime.

Jab.Tandem Engine (Blocked)-> cr.lk xx cr.lp -> cr.mp xx Jab.Tandem Engine (Blocked still) -> cr.lp xx cr.lp -> lp SPD.

This allows you to continuously put pressure on the opponent and if you land any of the hits you can simply finish the combo with the Hyaku.

For sure man, I really felt we are on the same page on what I need to improve on and it really makes me feel more at ease that I’m not the only that thinks so.

P.S. I may or may not have a video from this weekend because I’m the Anchor on my 3v3 team, so if my team mates win out. Next week I’ll be leading off for sure (Akuma/Vega/Zangief), and I have extensive experience vs. Akuma + Zangief, and Vega I plan to dish out some payback.

Thanks for the criticism guys!

that block string is kinda tight, i use it myself, problem is they get a freeeeee jump in combo at you if they guess the engine.

If they do that, you can just replace the second Tandem with an SRK instead. Changing even the smallest of details in your play style REALLY can get into someone’s head.

oh yeah dude fa sho. but if you wait for the jump and they don’t give it to you then you just let them out of pressure for free.

I’m not just being a snark here, i just feel the need to point out that it’s always a gamble in case anyone reads it and goes omg unbeatable pressure string! and then gets their head handed to them.

also, this thread needs more online tony.

there are a lot of vids of him up. very solid seth player, i played against him/watched him play this past friday and he’s much better than this match suggests. (it is from august after all. in 2 months a player better level up!)

LOL
awww u shouldn’t have…
In Dat Video I Barely picked Up Seth 3 Days before That Tournament…
I Think U Can Handle This Thread Yourself Saikyo…
No Need For my Advice…Except Combo Ur Ass Off When U Have Them In a Combo State…until their Dizzy…and Mix Up With SPD’s…

And Not Always Wake Up With Shoryu and SPD…Teleport is ur Best Bet…

haha, i meant it needs more of your vids cuz you got a lot up. gtfo.

(jk :lovin:)

I just got my madcatz controller, and was able to record some vids. I getting used to the controller but still missed some bnb’s. I also wasn’t able to record more fights because my 360 is dying and while I was playing the picture on my tv would get a little distorted.

Seth(me) vs Akuma

I played a good Gouken called AKA Sheng Long he does his thing if I can fight him again I will try to record it. I also fought some good Guile’s and Rose’s it was a good switch up from Ken and Ryu’s. Still doing player matches till I comfortable to go back to G1 with this new controller.

Very nice Seth you got here.

Personnally after a blocked Dive kick I either cross up, go 360 or J.HP. Same after de BnB combo. I don’t know if you played like this because of the opponents but when you have Dragon punch whore to play against, you shouldn’t go for another combo after the air juggle.

Don’t use normal throw with Seth except to punish or set up a backthrow shenanigan. Tick lp SPD, dive kick -> SPD, etcetera.

You could have landed your ultra a lot more. You should view it as free damage. Learn to buffer it at far range while jumping, throwing a sonic boom, or just crouching.

s.hp xx Sonic Boom xx EX Focus Cancel xx Forward Dash -> s.hp xx hk hyakuretsu does more damage than s.hp xx sonic boom xx EX Focus Cancel -> level 2 Focus Attack -> s.hp xx hk hyakuretsu.

You were either really psychic with anti-air lp shoryus or really random. Don’t whiff lp shoryu at mid range, that will get you ultra’d by good players.

Ultra Devil’s Reverse on his way down.

I don’t think you hit your bnb cr.lk xx cr.lp -> cr.mp xx mk hyakuretsu once.

Use EX Tandem if you get a chance off of a cr.hp. You were doing a decent job with the cr.hp xx lp shoryu -> stomps combo. Remember that in the corner cr.hp -> mk hyakuretsu -> stomps does more damage and stun.

If anyone cares, I have an okay replay on PSN.

those players were really weak. they rarely punished anything you did and i can tell they didn’t know the seth matchup at all. i mean shit, that bison didn’t even throw out one st. rh to punish all those early j.mp’s or whiffed lp shoryus you were tossing around.

it’s hard for me to really tell you what you did wrong because it doesn’t look like you did many things wrong, even where you did. so i think what i point out might fall on deaf ears or you’ll say “but i won anyway so lolz~”. what i am definitely sure of is work on your ultra setups and bnbs first.

I’m sorry if I sound condescending or whateva but please get some better opponents!

yeah, I want to fight good people all the time because you are always only good as your competition I would really like to fight some of you guys because it sounds like you know your stuff. I will be online today if I can fix my rrod. Is it cool if send a invite so I can spar with you?

you can send a friend req, but like the sig says, i can’t afford gold right now.
