Seth Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Some more basic pointers for how to [S]slaughter[/S] fight Seth:

  1. Most characters will beat him at footsie range. At that distance he can either counterpoke (weak option), backdash the fuck outa there (leads him closer to the wall), or dash spd. As long as you’re watching for dash spd you can bully him into the corner.

  2. If you get him in the corner, keep him there. This applies to every char but Seth melts in the corner due to weak health and poke. Just throw out the pokes (minimal fireballs) with the occasional neutral jump to discourage walljump out (more if you have a wtflol n.jump normal like Chun/Fei hk).

  3. Seth DP is often touted as the best DP in the game, but it actually has holes in it. 5f means you can and should go for safejumps all day (esp if you have auto sjump). He has an out with EX SPD, but risk/reward is heavily in your favor esp if he doesn’t have 2+ meter. Forcing him to burn meter on def rather than off is good anyways. Also, he is now -3 on 2nd hit DP FADC (yay 2012!), so either he auto burns the meter on 1st hit FADC, or he backdashes after 2nd hit. Either way, he can’t do continued SRK frametrap on offense anymore. Make sure you punish the 2nd hit FADC if he’s disrespecting you and just hoping you roll with it.

  4. Tanden engine and distance. Assuming the tanden isn’t meaty (big difference), you can figure out his f.advantage from how close you are

  • Touch him early on: He is very +, bad situation for you, just hope you can get out
  • Touch him just as it ends: Close to 0, if he has 2+ meter you’re probably looking at srk/spd 50/50. TP out (or backdash if yours is godly), otherwise pray.
  • Don’t touch him at all: He is slightly -, can’t really be punished reliably. Backdash gets you out fairly reliably.
Watch out for the double tanden, usually used when he’s close to 0 to -, will catch backdashes for full combo. If you predict or react to an obvious tanden, you can jump in yourself for a full combo.
  1. Learn to block instant stomp+followup in and out of the corner, esp if you’re using a char that can be easily magneto’d. Once you’re good at it you can probably even DP him right out of the air on reaction to badly spaced ones.

  2. This is a very minor point, but please please don’t burn the EX trying to do a reversal when he’s about to chip you out Round 1. You’re gonna lose.

IMO once you figure out the strategy (1/2) and take away the gimmicks (3/4/5), Seth’s chances of beating you go way down. Seth can be played at any end of the spectrum from balls deep, Poongko style full out offense, to million booms walljump online warriors, so its up to you to figure out the player.

I have a question to the dive kick… it seems that no attack after that will combo. Am I doing something wrong or can’t you use it for combos like akuma can?

After AE dropped, the dive kick has less hit and block stun. You cannot combo off of it unless you hit them very low, but you can SPD them almost immediately after they fall out of block/hit stun. Alternatively, use it as they get up after a knock down (meaty/fake cross up…or real cross up depending on the character and if you have set ups for it.) Then it’ll combo into cr.LP, cr.LK, or cst.HP pretty easily. I think some characters can do cst.MP but very few.

Side note, I’m pretty sure the dive kick’s reduced block stun prevents safe hit confirms from cr.LP now (meaning 3f DP can be mashed after being blocked.)

Ya, and it seems that block -> spd is an easy counter in seth mirror matches.

I wish Seth’s divekick had hitstun like Akuma’s divekick. That’d really be something for scrubs to complain about.

What can Seth do against people who Focus a lot outside of using Tanden?

fst.LK x2, cr.MK buffer MK Legs, HK Hyakuretsukyaku, Ultra 1, Ultra 2, Sonic Boom (walk forward) fst.HP

EX Hyaku, SRK (if close enough) Crouch Forward xx SRK, Super, Crossup, Forward Jump Strong, Stomp, EX Sonic Boom

Srry for sounding like a noob in advance but after seth does the legs combo in the corner how do you jump n hit them with the chun li legs

you have to learn right timing when jump animation begins and immediately go down+MK. It takes practice, easiest character to stomp is Hakan, and one of harder are guy, cody…

I was wondering, in what cases(or against what characters) do you pick ultra 2 instead of ultra 1? I prefer ultra 1 because of the easy way to combo into it after a cr.hp. Or when reacting to an enemy hadouken or whatever.

the question you just asked is basically answered at the top of page 31 and bottom of page 30

hey guys im new to seth and i was wondering if you guys can help me a bit. what should i be practicing for beginners?

To start:

Easy combos:

  • cHp into H Legs
  • cMk/cMp into M Legs
  • cLk into L Legs
  • Hp into H Legs
  • cHp into Super
  • cHp into Ultra
  • Ultra Counter Fireballs

Advanced combos:

  • (corner) jHk into cHp (better but more difficult: sHp) into H Legs into Stomps into Divekick
  • Ex DP into Ex Engine (2 bars needed) into cHp into Ultra/Super/H Legs
  • (air) Mp into Stomps into Divekick
  • bnb combo: cLp into cLp into (link!) cMp into M Legs
  • Ultra Counter Airborne Attacks

Harder combos: Later.

New to Seth or new to street fighter? Big difference.

new 2 seth…

If you are new to Seth, but not new to street fighter, than I can assume you can do basic cancels and links like c.MK/c.MP xx MK legs, cs.HP xx HP SRK/HK legs, etc?

Starting off I would learn the simple BnB and it’s variants:

c.LP, c.LP, c.MP xx MK legs (toe taps if in corner)
c.LK, c.LP, c.MP xx MK legs (toe taps if in corner)
etc

After that I would learn hit confirming into cs.HP

c.LP, c.LP, cs.HP xx
c.LK, c.LP, cs.HP xx

Then learn to hit confirm after fewer normals into cs.HP (c.LP, cs.HP xx).

This video shows some other basic and advanced stuff that you will need to learn later on. Not all of it is useful/practical though. Great username btw.

thanks for help

Learn the combos
Get used to his movement options
Train yourself to react to things with SRK, EX legs, Ultra and Super
Learn what punishes what

Hi! I’m looking for a character who can cover Balrog’s bad match ups in AE. I’ve been messing around with Seth in training mode and I’m liking the feel so far. Just wanted to ask: How does Seth fare against Guile, Akuma, Gief, Sim, and Sagat?
