No I intentionally included ways to FADC into it. But yeah U1 is better to land as anti-air or anti-fireball over combos.
Combos into U1 are worth it at low life totals due to the safe retarded mixup you get after it, in my opinion.

Oh, my bad. You must’ve not typed Boom after cl.hp by accident on this one.
Does Sosage still mod this section? I was thinking that we should put together some FAQs for the first post.
What’s the timing for each shoryuken? The most I can get is two.
Just mash and it’s almost impossible to not get all 3.
There are some setups that you can’t do without delaying the hits as late as possible, but you’ll learn the timing if you stick with the character long enough.
Alright thanks
If the opponent is close to you (say after an AA DP) then you need to delay the second hit somewhat. However, in almost every combo situation, you shouldn’t delay the second DP rep. It actually makes your recovery on the ground a little more.
^^On most characters, if you delay the second SRK then then if you attempt a dash cross-under it won’t cross up, where-as if you don’t delay it the dash will.
I cant seem to do headstomps after a light shoryuken. I do one shoryuken but by the time I jump to do the headstomp the training dummy has already fallen to the ground. Any tips?
Are you doing the crouching fierce combo? It doesn’t work on certain characters such as Dudley. You have to do the second hit of a jab or strong SRK in order to land stomps. Remember that you must cancel the second hit of crouching fierce for it to work.
If you are doing the anti-air combo, you have to wait until you’re right above the opponent to press stomps.
Yeah im trying to do that combo. Thanks for helping, I didnt know you had to cancel the 2nd hit. I was cancelling the 1st hit of the crouching hp.
Dash SPD has to be one of Seth’s most OP tools I mean…Really.
I abuse it so much and people just don’t react. So fast, so good.
I’m a beginner with SF4, and I don’t main Seth, but I’m trying to learn the matchup. I was wondering: why do I frequently see Seth players follow up an EX Shoryuken with EX Tanden Engine rather than U2 when it’s available? Is the damage potential significantly higher by following up EX Tanden Engine with another combo? To me, it would seem like U2 would be preferable because that meter is a resource that cannot be carried from one round to the next, so Seth would want to exhaust that first. But I suppose questions like that are why I don’t main Seth.
And why I’m not very good at this game.
And why I don’t have friends.
EX DP, EX Tanden, cr.HP xx whatever does a lot more damage/stun and almost always gives superior positioning. Plus you need to delay the U2 to get maximum damage and some characters have different height requirements. Generally, you shouldn’t do EX DP, U2 unless it’ll win the game / give you the life lead on a character who struggles to get in / you need to stall the timer. Even if you only have one bar + U2 stocked and land an EX DP, you should usually just use the KD EX DP gives you to do mix ups.
EX DP, EX Tanden, cr.HP xx LP DP, U2
EX DP, EX Tanden, cr.HP xx LP DP, Stomps x3, Dive kick
EX DP, EX Tanden, cr.HP xx HK Legs, U2
EX DP, EX Tanden, cst.MP, cst.HP xx HK Legs, U2
or whatever variation you want for reset / u2 combo
Like The Breaker said, U2 leaves you in a bad oki situation. You can’t get more offense off it. Also, you don’t get full hits with U2 after EX SRK anyway.
Seth is all about pressing the advantage.
Too add to the above, U2 does piss poor damage without combos, depending on how many times the EX SRK hits you’ll lose 4-8 of the 12 hits it does, at a minimum scaling of 60%
you’re better off saving it for legs -> Ultra or punish situations.
Overall though, Seths U2 isn’t as good as it once was, back in the day it had 900 frames of invuln.
The guaranteed chip kill against a very large portion of the cast was the best thing about U2 in my opinion. I stick with U1 in every matchup now unless a friend mirror matches me.
Also, fuck Sagat.
Yeah, guaranteed chip kill was pretty baller. It’s not really a bad Ultra…if you’re confident enough in your ability to control the screen and maintain pressure, then U2 is still a decent tool. You basically need two bars to really get the Super-era traps working again, but they do work against most of the cast still. The damage in the corner with U2 is still pretty good as well when you don’t have meter combos. It’s also a bit more reliable with the eagle eye now that Ultra 1 isn’t that reliable against fireballs at closer ranges.
That being said, I can’t really say “pick U2 over U1.” There are no match ups where U2 benefits outweigh U1’s outside of maaaaybe Claw.
U2 is pretty good for catching his wall dive BS. As nerfed wall dives are in this game, they seemed a hell of a lot easier to stuff in ST. Getting grabbed out of an SRK or or whiffing a jumping attack by a few pixels is so lame. I still use U1, though to catch purposely whiffed ultras and wall dives.
Speaking of Vega’s ultras, did they give his U1 invincibility or something? I U1’d it today as he was on the way to the wall, his ultra went through mine. I felt so salty after that. Maybe it just went over my ultra. I should have saved the replay.
Pretty sure Vega got U1 Tweaks. Can’t be bothered looking, Though.
Back to AE2012 after around 2 months break. Time to learn for real this time. Fundamentals.
(Lol Seth Fundamentals)
Thanks for the clear, concise response! Yeah, I know nothing about the Seth matchup, so any bit of information I get about why he does the things he does, or knowing when and how he might potentially diverge from “book” in certain situations is just immensely helpful. And thank you to everyone else who responded to clarify and/or add to Breaker’s explanation, as well!
I wish my execution was on-point enough that I could realistically give Seth an honest test-drive right now because he’s my favorite character to watch, despite being tied with Gen for the #1 spot on my “dudes what does a fights and I legit don’t know what the fuck” list.
Seriously what is happening
Once a get some free time here in about a month I’ll sit down and actually learn something about these guys!
