Seth Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

First and foremost: Seth never has to chase anybody that doesn’t have a better fireball than him (And most of the time even if they have a better fireball than you).

You could be down 5% to 70%, but chances are you have 60-70 seconds left and you can easily do 70% of damage with smart pokes and intelligent set-ups.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I Ex SPD’d an Ex Psycho Crusher just after it’s start-up somehow. Yeah, someone should test that, because we all know how much Bison’s like to abuse the Ex Psycho Crusher as a soap-on-a-rope jail prison escape break plan card.

Omg the ceo has a step learning curve!

This must come across as an incredibly dumb question but how on earth do you win with Seth? I play a lot of characters and a receive bunch of compliments for my “straight RTSD!!!” game play style and I found myself extremely intrigued by Seth’s’ style, options, and uniqueness to a certain degree (in before “lol all his move are stolen” ).

I’ve been playing Seth for a while now and my player points are at an all time low not that I’m concerned, but I can’t seem to beat even the baddest of bads and it’s really discouraging but I can’t seem to drop the CEO. Really I’m just looking for a point in the right direction because I despise playing lame and I could use a mentor of sorts so hit me up with message here or on XBL.

So far I know al his bnb’s to legs and of course things like jab jab dp fadc taps, and a even a few fireball mix-ups. I can scrape out some wins with stuns from resets in the corner or a lucky U1 from a fireball/random whatever. Nut for the most part I just don’t know how to start a match or keep in control when I have a dp spaminng ken or random mashing ryu breathing down my neck.

Also I’ve been lurking here for months and I’ve attempted to absorb all the info short of learning the Mag loop (that ish is hard >.>) so try not to write me off as someone who isn’t here to learn but simply complain about a tough to play character. In all honestly I hope to become a reg here because I think we could use a few more warriors for the Seth :bgrin:!

LDR: Halp me me with Seth basics!

My 1st suggestion: Sift through the videos thread to see what works and what doesn’t. Specifically check out OnlineTony, Hiropon, Sabin (Arturo). They all have different play styles and have pretty much flawless execution (That way you can absorb combos rather than broken links).

2nd suggestion: Go to the Combos thread and get a little training from those combos to start with, and get the execution down. You’ll be able to pick up more from the videos once you get the basics down and start to recognize situations/potential damage.

3rd suggestion: Watch matches of Seth losing, this will inspire you not to fuck up or do stupid shit like we all did in the past learning him.

4th Sugestion: You’re going to lose, you need to ignore the loss, but absorb what happened at every single instance that you got hit. (I jumped in HK and he did cr.HP and AA’d me. I tried to SRK on my wake-up but he was spaced out just far enough where I whiff and he hit me with a buff combo. I tried to Ultra 2 against a jumpin Ryu’s safe jump, and he got the block in time.)

Everything from 4 is something I’ve come to deem as “Dumb Damage”. Whether it be your stupidity or just your opponent is so fucking dumb any thing you do be it playing footsies or a block string and he DPs it no matter what. That’s a two-part failure: 1. You stuck something dumb out 2. Your opponent watches the Good Morning Mr. Masters video way too much.

Either way, Welcome to coming out of hiding, we’re glad to have you.

With all these new Seth players coming out of the wood works, I reallllllly need to get this book done.

Whats the best way to counter the thing Seth does when he bounces off the wall and divekicks/headstomp. Hitbox data would be appreciated also

Seth is the drug, health is what you pay for it.

re: Gouken

Gouken has a massive disadvantage in that he can’t throw a two-hit fireball without charging. So long-range fireball will only result in Seth building up Ultra meter. That plan gets abandoned really quickly especially if you selected U1. As for his palms, you can easily stay at a safe distance from them as the HP version is slow and the others don’t have as good range and invincibility. If he does throw an angled fireball, you can just tag him with st.hp.

One of the things you need to do against Gouken is to empty jump him into SPD’s. This will keep him from throwing out his parries (which do a ton of damage especially if he has meter to fadc into lp palm).

re: Guile

Rushing down Guile isn’t as hard as it would seem. So long as you are not too predictable, you can push him into the corner with st.hp and sonic booms. And God forbid he miss a flash kick. You can get him with bullet kicks and push him to the corner even more. I would put this matchup slightly in Seth’s favour.

Thanks a ton for all your awesome posts, if I were to drill one combo for seth into my fingers it should be Cr.lk, cr.lp, Cr.lp, Cr.mpxxlegs right? How strict is the lp to mp it’s the only troublesome part of it. Also I find I’ve been relying on cr.hp a lot for legs/dp/ultra when/how do you guys land the elbow?

I like being safe and make the cr.lk a crouch tech and I don’t like the extra jab as it ends up reducing damage and may cause the cr.mp to whiff if you started too far from your opponent.

Also, make sure you have DP FADC Stomps down as well as bullet kicks into stomp in the corner.

Yeah, PC can be grabbed out of the start up frames I think.

Hey Volfe, good to see some people in super deciding to pick up Seth instead of it all being stragglers from vanilla =). If you want advice on your gameplay I think the best thing to do (if you can) would be to first upload some videos of you playing, then everyone can see exactly what you’re doing and give advice accordingly, then hopefully you can start racking up some wins with him!

Wow ty JalapNo/Hawkins I’ll get on everything you said asap (sadly I don’t I really have any recording equipment >.<) also thanks for the welcome it really means alot :bgrin:!

Whos the most aggressive Seth? Trying to find vids of Seths who get in dat ass

Yo so what is your thinking process when you’re rushing down so you make your shits unpredictable? That’s really the only thing I’m having issues with. I try and be as unpredictable as possible but sometimes(and god damn it) my mind goes on auto pilot and i do the same blockstring 5 times in a row.

Seth has so many options that I try to freestyle as much as I can cause fuck it. I just want to get to the point where if I never do the same stuff twice in one match, you wont see whats coming next.

Too bad Sanford doesn’t play Seth lol, from what I’ve seen so far (a lot) the closest your going to get with a rush down Seth is online tony in the corner, also from what I’ve seen Asian players don’t really go fro corner the get the taps but then no mix up…what’s up with that?

P.S. Try Poongko’s Seth he’s a monster.

My recommendation then, get your demos, take a digital camera/camera phone, and record the demo and upload it online that form. It’s the ghetto method I would use to get vids on the internet.

OnlineTony would be the one to look to.

The problem stems from your block strings. People recognize that you throw the same block string, meaning they will predict an SPD or Tanden, meaning to jump would be the most viable option.

Learn 3 more block strings (ex. Hiropon does cr.LK x3 instead of cr.lk -> cr.lp -> cr.lp -> mix-up).
Learn to combo into SRK from the BnB block strings (especially if you have the bar to burn).
Use more pokes and change the pace of the game frequently, this throws your opponent out of the rhythm of the fight*

*Yes, this does exist in a lot of players. Players tend to look for the speed you’re playing at and match/counter it by either pacing or speeding it up themselves (Similar to how you would drive on the freeway). Seth can stop space and time, but is also the one of the fastest character in the game, this is how you control the space (Spacing wth good zoning/run away) and time (The clock, Time out or KO). The power is in your control.

As for Sanford, I don’t think he’d be able to handle Seth’s negatives, but I could be wrong and he likes Seth. I highly doubt he’d want to go any lower than the 900? 950? vitality that C.Viper already has when he likes playing Sagat and Ryu.

Oh yeah, no disrespect to Poongko, the guy is a Korean monster. The only problem is all his videos are randomly enough, against bad players (and I mean that in the sense that they don’t know what to do against Seth, or they don’t know how to play the game).

I would love to see him play Seth against some top players (Or maybe he has and I haven’t seen/heard of it).

The best way to learn how to be less predictable/more creative with Seth is to play someone better than you who punishes all your shit after reading your patterns.

Just wanted to point out that this is wrong. The whiffing glitch only happens when you pull someone out of the air raw like say from a tatsu. EX Tanden works just fine in combos. cr.hp xx EX Tanden to rack up that stun is a favorite of mine.

Oh also at Evo 2009 after he was eliminated Sanford said he was going to use Seth against Daigo if they played each other.

That’s exactly what I said. When you suck them out of the air, you will whiff the second hit.

But Kiku is right-er than you are. because after ex.SRK, such a glitch does not happen.

After EX.SRK, you can do more than 1 hit on them and it’ll juggle fine and not whiff through them like when you use raw ex-tanden as anti-air.

Any chance I could get in on some of the groups and such you guys play on XBL? I’m really in need of some good comp as it’s getting a bit sickening always SRKing jumping beans in ranked.

I maybe get one or two guys who really can just kill me, but usually it’s just the same strat Ryu’s and such. They always throw FB’s with me having U1…always. >.<

My tag’s on the left. <----

Anybody else get this problem? I land a deep j.hk and then my cr.lp just completely whiffs.
