Faster recovery, so you can then punish opponent for jumping over it, bait ultras, teleport behind opponent from under fullscreen (or make them think you’re going to do that) etc.
quick question. i just started using seth yesterday and i’m really liking him. but so far it seems in the earlier stages the matches go either way depending on who gets the first major damage, with the chance of a comeback from either opponent really low. it looks as though winning consistently with seth(especially in tourneys), won’t be effortless. was just wondering if you guys use him as your main, with an alternate waiting in case you seem like you can’t beat the opponent, or if you just go all out. my main for now is blanka, but it seems like blanka isn’t cutting it so i decided to test out seth and see if he is a good choice to switch, or is this a bad decision?
You’re asking us whether or not you should main Seth…
Play with who you enjoy most, and most characters have potential to be used competitively (bar a few I guess).
If you are planning on entering tournies it wouldn’t hurt to have an alternate, I personally use Viper and Seth based purely on the fact I like their styles. You could also choose an alternate that fills out the holes in your main’s game.
Also, if you think Blanka ‘isnt cutting it’ I wouldn’t recommend Seth as he is much harder in my opinion.
well the only reason why i say he isn’t cutting it, is merely because i’ve been playing with him since vanilla and i still don’t feel comfortable with him. only reason why i win with him is cuz most people don’t know the matchup. i’m liking seth so far, he feels alot better, but i was just wondering if the majority of seth players go all out with just him, or do they have an alternate.
I feel like Seth doesn’t have any really horrible matchups, so I usually stick with just him. The only matchups I generally have trouble with are C.viper and Ibuki due to their crazy mixup games and ability to stun Seth very quickly.
God this is so wrong unfortunately… #IFuckingHateThisGame
Anyways, I use Seth as a main and I have Juri as a sub. Juri is super experimental though and really isn’t a character I can fall back to get victories I can’t get with Seth. I either win with Seth or I lose with Seth.
Tanden Engine 4 Life. If you want to pick up Seth, do, but bear in mind that he takes a bit of dedication tog et competitive with. Otherwise you’ll just be losing in less than 10 secs. Oh, and he has mad comeback potential if you know his combos and mix-ups.
heh I’m pretty much still undecided between Viper and Seth and have been for a long while now. I love Viper but some of her matchups make me want to jump onto my tv screen and break it in half…
wait, what?
Does Seth vs Bison make you want to gouge out your eyes, throw them in a blender and drink them? Because I…
what were we talking about?
Seth’s a fun character, and tournament viable, however when 2 combos can consistently kill you and a couple of hits can stun you there is a greater element of luck in his game than some other characters. He doesn’t have any particularly bad matchups though, so play him a bit more and if you’re enjoying him stick at it.
In answer to your question, I do better in any matchup using Seth to any other member of the cast, though have been messing about a little bit with sim and viper for variety.
that shit right there ^^^^ just confused the fk out of me!!! lol Bison what?? Easy match you say??
thanks alot for the responses. i’ll play him for maybe a week or so and see where i stand.
Could someone explain to me how to plink Seths BnB combo (cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mpxxlegs), if it’s possible?
You can’t, only double tap, not that it’s needed with practice. Against everyone but blanks you should be using c.lk > s.lk > c.mp xx mk legs though anyway, and against everyone but blanka, vega and guile you should be using c.lk > s.lk > s.hp xx hk legs at point blank, and against blanka, c.lk > c.lp > c.lp > c.mp xx mk legs when not too far away.
While holding down on the stick you hit LK, then you hit LP, then you hit MP and LP almost at the same time, but MP just a wee bit sooner, then you move the stick from down to back and hit LK for the legs.
OH… Plink the mp… Of course! Haven’t slept in 24 hours and thought he was asking how to plink lp, sorry =).
Are you actually suggesting that Seth vs M. Bison is an easy match-up for us?
Well yeah. it is for me, I’ve faced some pretty good bisons but I’ve got a 90% win ratio against them.
if you could see my replay channel on PSN I saved a really good fight (5 rounds) against a bison.
I’m sorry dude, but I just disagree with you there. Bisons U2+Dmg output+footsies for dummies+our nerfs just fuck me up big time and I think a lot of other Seth players are finding this match up to be significantly harder in SSF4.
No worries, i’ve posted my share of sleep deprived advice on boards before, i know how it is =D
^This^
There’s a Bison player i could beat in vanilla and now in super when i face him it goes 20-2 in his favour =(
Thanks! I’ll try this out. Having lots of trouble landing this combo.
Is it also useful to always begin the combo (cr.lk) as an option select (downback+lp+lk)? That would make the combo (cr.lp+cr.lk), cr.lp, cr.mp xx legs. Techs if they try to throw you and cr.lk combostarter if they don’t?
