Seth’s lp SPD has a lot less range than Gief’s. 1.65 range versus 1.15 range. This is a huge difference, especially in terms of footsies and tick throws.
How often should I be using Seth’s dive kick/triangle jump?
I usually use it in his mixups and tick throw setups. Problem is I tend to not want to use it on characters with a solid AA to punish a random spacing error.
uhh mix-up encompasses pretty much everything :wonder: but anyway I totally abuse it to move across the screen while dodging projectiles, pressure, safe walljump…shit, it’s even a good air to air.
Oops, forgot to put the word “sometimes” in there
I’ve mostly been using it for pressure strings and tick throw setups.
I could not find it in the moves thread but what are the properties on seths SPD? Like is his normal SPD’s non throwable or if his EX SPD like abels TT throw and its hit invulnerable?
Seth’s SPD is unthrowable, period. You can SPD people out of tick throws, usually even out of command throw ticks. EX SPD is completely invulnerable on startup. The only moves that will beat it are airborne moves or moves that have longer invincibility. Mashing EX SPD randomly is a powerful strategy because if they tried to throw you or they tried to frame trap you or they just sat there, they will eat the throw. In fact, Seth can actually mash out random reversals and get away with it a lot of the time, because EX Shoryu, EX SPD, and backwards teleport all have basically one or two ways to get punished, which usually precludes baiting the other two!
Just don’t get baited with EX SPD because it’s easy as hell to punish with a neutral jump or a DP FADC.
Any really good Seths that play on PSN? I don’t have to mirror you as I can use other characters if that’s not your thing, but it would be awesome to have someone to learn from in-game. Hit me up with a PM or msg back. If you want to just send the invite or msg, DaBatCave is the account.
What are the situations where seth’s ultra doesn’t hit full? It’s kinda frustrating to have it do even less damage than it supposed to.
I know it doesn’t hit full when you do it really fast after cr. hp on some characters. Also when you throw a sonic boom and bait a jump, ultra and they slide into the sonic boom. And when punishing a blocked blanka ball early, I think.
the biggest PITA is that we’re not really sure. maybe at the peak of where it can hit or when they get hit by the sonic boom right after they get hit by the ultra. i know i’ve gotten full hits from the ultra after they’ve slid into the sonic boom so…
awesome I didnt know that!
man if only you were on xbox live. id love to fight ya! you seem to know so much about seth.
I have a question, bare with me on this one
does anyone actually use seth in a real tournament?
I mean sure we play him online and what not but would you actually feel comfortable regardless of who your opponet is picking him and sticking to it (even if you lose one match, you still keep on him)
recently I went 3-2 in a tournament with Seth…not bad I guess but I just lucked out on some rounds.people where like “he picked seth? he had a better chance using Dan” I simply replied “Fuck You”

You tend to do that with your mains, and a large number of the posters in the Seth forum main him.
If he is just a secondary character for you, it’s probably not a good idea.
I have used Seth only in tournaments since the middle of June. The only times I don’t pick Seth are upon request for Blanka practice, they don’t have Seth unlocked, or I’m at the arcade.
The only time I play other characters is if I’m in an arcade, Seth isn’t unlocked or in casuals if my friends request I play another character (usually because I’m beasting on them with him, lol). Other then that, if Seth is there I’m on him like white on rice. Win or lose, tournament or not, I never counter pick, Seth all the way.
quick question here guys…
how do you focus attack taunt?
I saw that bigdave doing it in his seth video at 1:11
it would be awesome if I could pull off seth laugh focus, is just taunt and let the fireball come and then FA?
mp+mk~hp+hk
focus attack then immediately press taunt
^^
much obliged
Hey guys, I’m trying to really level up my Seth and just wanted to ask some help in establishing a solid idea of his optimal style in-match:
- In guarding his front…
-how does Seth keep opponents from approaching him directly via dash up/focus, dash up and etc (e.g., notable normals and specials/mobility etc)?
- In guarding his head…
-how does Seth keep opponents from approaching him from the air?
- On defense…
-what are some of his unique options of breaking pressure (whether it be taking the offensive or returning the match to neutral)?
- On offense…
-Seth does not have the health lead: how does he go about establishing his offense? what are his mix-ups and general windows of attack?
-
What, in your opinion, is Seth’s most efficient range (close/mid/far)?
-
Which characters deserve special mention with match-ups in mind (who has to be handled especially differently)?
**thanks in advance, and I do intend on reading through the threads and gathering info, but if discussion is sparked in someone, please feel free =)
I don’t main Seth, nor play with him that often, so if any of this is wrong feel free to correct me.

Obviously seth’s j.fp and s.fp are great tools to keep your opponents at a distance. But to out footsie opponents i use c.lp. c.lp c.lp c.mp mk legs is a key combo to learn because it strengthens the shit out of your seth footsie game. Plus it puts your opponent further away allowing you to use seth’s zoning game to its fullest potential.

FA back dash is a safe bet for tough angle air attacks. Also, seth’s EX DP and regular DPs are good anti air options. A well timed s.hk works as an anti air but i dont reccomend it due to the uses being so limited.

I main rufus, and i honestly can’t tell u a safe way for seth to get out on an intense rush down. This is really a character dependent question, but i would say teleport as a last resort/in the corner. I would try to jump back fierce or at least back dash. Of course be smart about it and think about your options before doing any of those.

Seth can punish pretty much every whiffed special move in the book, so take your pick. (This is purely a guess) Blocked blanka balls and honda’s hp headbutt can probably be punished with some version of legs. I’m guessing u have to block standing. Also whiffed/blocked shoryukens can be punished by c.mp mk legs. Of course these are basic punishes, there are definitely more damaging punishes for specific moves.

If you have the life lead seth’s best range is far. You have tons of options to keep your opponent guessing, and if u have an ultra, your opponent really can’t try anything too risky to get in. Making your job way easier. Of course, I wouldn’t hold up + back and mash fierce punch either cause then you’re putting yourself in a corner. I would try my best to push my opponent towards the corner or at the very least maintain a neutral standpoint (should be your goal with any character you’re using).

This one is obviously one I cannot answer very well cause i don’t know many match ups with seth. I can say though that seth’s stretchy arms can be stuffed by psychic DPs and some normals by certain characters. It’s a good idea to toss out empty neutral jumps to force your opponent into throwing a careless DP or normal with long recovery. Also, against Abel, seth can get ultraed in several ways. Abel can ultra through sonic booms, and if he hits u while you’re doing a j.fp with EX COD he can ultra u. Be very weary of what characters ultra can hit u, because no matter how big of a life lead you have, that will certainly change with one stupid mistake.
Hope this helps, if you have more specific questions i’ll be happy to go further.
