Seth Killian Leaving Capcom

Seth killian left his mark on the whole FGC. Unlike many, he will be missed.

guys, he hasn’t said he is leaving the fgc. just capcom.

there is a difference

for some. the rest of us know other companies make fighting games besides Capcom. Seth is much better away from that company.

He was able to change the way Capcom work greatly by joining them. With him gone it’s very likely Capcom’s relationship with us is going to take a turn for the worst. It’s pointless to speculate why he left but it could very well be that he has disagreements with Capcom.

I know Nintendo is crazy, but I’ve been a fan of them for as long as I can remember and I’ve come to respect their decisions, even if I don’t like them such as not bringing the MOTHER series in its entirety here. Likewise, I admire that they refuse to go third party, especially since they’re the last big console manufacturer that exists to make games, unlike MS and Sony.

And yes, Japanese developers are weird and it’s likely related to their business culture in general, whatever it may be.

Well that’s the question, how much impact did he really have?

My impression is, PR guys aside, Capcom USA gets crapped on pretty regularly by the parent company anyways.

wut. i don’t think this actually has anything to do what i was saying…

seth has been a part of the community for a ridiculously long time, much longer then he has worked for capcom. just because he had disagreements with capcom doesn’t mean he is going to depart from the community and friends he has been part of for over a decade

S.Kill, if you’re reading this, I’ll pay your entry fees for EVO to play UMvC3.

I want to see that secret fucking tech you’ve squirreled away.

P.M me bro!

SFIV doesn’t have much to do with games getting made in the first place. It has a fair bit to do with US publisher support for them, which occasionally has some quantifiable impact beyond how many copies sell in the US (eg. console rebalance, DLC, netcode)

Speaking of US publisher support, Seth was practically Capcom USA’s incarnate. There’s still Capcom fans who love Street Fighter there, but that’s not the same as someone from the tournament community. The model is probably sufficiently established considering Aksys, WB, and Atlus are buying in, but especially being this is Capcom, whether they stay as involved and as supporting is the one thing that seems worth worrying about here. They’ve made sillier decisions based on spreadsheets.

I was actually gonna mention Nintendo in my earlier post, if to say that another symptom of the problem with the industry lies on our end, where gamers shit all over companies that DO try new things with “OMG SHITTY GIMMICKS” and such. Not that big N is completely not at fault with their lack of courtship for 3rd party devs but still.

News made me sad.

That said, I hope this means that we’ll see Seth compete again.

And yeah, I doubt we’ll see S-Kill drop out of the FGC completely. He has a real passion for the community, and I doubt his time at Capcom robbed him of that. Wonder if we could get him to write some more articles.

I just wish him the best of luck in finding a new job where they appreciate him.

Seth is an extremely passionate and caring guy. He genuinely loves the FGC. It’s really damn difficult to retain an attitude like that with all the bullshit that Capcom put him through.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! Oh, wait, you were serious?! The only two people at Capcom that haven’t come across as complete corporate tools were Ono and Killian.

Yes, I’m quite sure that losing the one of the only guys in the world that knows both the competitive and corporate aspects of fighting game advertising and community outreach means great things for this company called Capcom that has done nothing but be a complete PR disaster the last couple of years.

Losing Seth Killian means no more on disc DLC. No more rushed to market products that will see an “update” six months later. Replacing him with some yes-man robot that tows the company line will do us all a world of good.

I’m just glad that Seth doesn’t have to sit there and tell blatant lies anymore. You could see how soul-crushing it was for him having to defend all of Capcom’s recent fuckery. Good for you, Seth. I hope you’re able to do something far greater and satisfying. Good luck to you, man.

I don’t know the exact details, but according to one of my contacts at Capcom, Seth has “a great gig lined up. up to him to spill the beans, but it’s a great opportunity and he will excel at it.”

This was one of the principle reasons for why Inafune left Capcom. The company’s higher ups never came from development so they don’t understand the hardship of game development, what makes a good game and what their consumers want. He was the held the highest position in the company who had his start at development.

d3v with that insider information.

Truth is that Seth needs to be appreciated for all the shit he did outside of the game. All those fight clubs and character demos, those pretty little lies and the great personality he brought to the hobby, these are the things that will forever make Killian’s role an important one at Capcom. We don’t know how much influence he had in the games (other than the addition of certain characters to MvC3), but we do know that he brought a lot of sunshine to a backwards ass company that is great at making bad decisions to the general detriment of everybody.

It is unfair to to judge him on the quality of the games or the spin he did for Capcom because that was his job. We don’t know how much dick he had to suck so we could have one nice thing here and there. So for all the bukkakes you took in secret so we could have some preview videos here and there, for all the hustle that went into the interviews which killed what potential personal life you had to share the passion this community has, because odds are really good that you talked some sense into the company and explained to them why that early reveal of the UMvC3 cast turned out to be the best thing ever:

Seth Killian, I personally say Thank You.

That was the very reason why I made that point in the first place. I want to say, in comparison, that Miyamoto is part of Nintendo’s board of directors.

So what’s going to happen to Keth Sillian? :frowning:

Hopefully is somewhere still involved in the competitive scene.
