considering the g4 “talent” they could have had in his place, sessler was alright. that being said, i still think overall he ruined the experience, aside from the stream crashing
I get that they’re trying to introduce people who don’t normally play fighting games to those that do, but If you’re going to commentate on a match, at least have some clue as to what you’re talking about…
funny how Seth never really corrected him either
He’s a hype killer.
I think they should have set up a second booth and put Sessler and James Chen together to commentate for the G4 audience and leave Seth, Keits and SkiSonic to commentate on the stream.
Now I really don’t think anybody is gonna download the Finals and hearing Sessler’s idiotic rambling.
I wish it had been SkiSonic, Keits, and Seth. I felt like they were explaining things to me that I wasn’t catching. With Sessler there, I felt like Seth was spending more time explaining things to him than actually commentating. Especially when Sessler asked a broad question and Seth had to rush to condense the answer.
I figure it was because G4 was also streaming it, and SkiSonic was going hoarse and stuff but damn. I feel like those three did the best job. For old-school wrestling heads, it was like Bobby the Brain, Macho Man, and Jim Ross commentating. Shit had synergy!
Out of all the finals commentaries, I have to say the Tekken guys did the best job imho. From the way they relate to the players, especially about how they don’t like how one of the them were goofing around and how his opponent will/should punish him, it makes it very interesting just to listen to them. I knew jack about Tekken, but the commentary made me glue to the stream.
Compare to Sesler, just feels like he seriously have no clue and no interest in what was going on.
Macho and Ross? Seriously dude, if you’re going to throw out the wrestling reference for commentating, you’ve gotta do it right.
Brain and Gorilla all day. If you throw in a third, its Lord Alfred Hayes…c’mon man!
That guy was saying people were up in matches just because they won a round? Get that shit outta here…Should have definitely had Ski, Keits, and Killian.
There’s no reason James Chen couldn’t have been with both of them. Also, there’s really no reason Sessler couldn’t have just interviewed Seth or something and not did commentary at all. He kept interrupting Seth any time someone got like a 10% life lead like it meant anything. Of course, his strange thought process of rounds carrying over completely baffled us. One time he interrupted Seth and LITERALLY repeated what he had just said and Seth was like “…that’s exactly what I’m saying.” Good on Seth for being professional and not constantly correcting him, and when he did he did it kind of subtle which went completely over Sessler’s head anyway. It’s like he wasn’t actually listening to Seth at all.
What pissed me off most was his constant chatting during the time right before the top 8 when people came on stage to give out awards and prizes and thank everyone for coming etc… I know he had no idea who those people were, but he could have like taken his mic off completely if he was gonna keep talking. It was pretty disrespectful. “I definitely could’ve taken a piss.” What an ass hat.
I actually found the tekken commentary intriguing. They were using terminology and lingo I had no clue of, but it was real. It’s how they thought and how they percieved the match…their commentary wasn’t patronizing and they didn’t dumb it down for the casuals.
Any1 had downloaded any Sessler commentary…I really missed it!
‘I think he may have it’ when vangief SPD’d a very low health chunli
’we are tied up 2-2’ when ricky won the first round of game 2 of the finals.
‘they fight a lot in the middle of the screen’
Loved the stream all weekend up until the top 8 finals which i was really looking foward to. God the semi’s were so hype. Having someone who doesn’t know the game, talk about the biggest matches of the weekend… really sucked for the 30k+ people watching that knew what was happening on screen.
I understand why he was on, but I think he could have brushed up on how SF worked. It doesn’t necessarily bother me that he doesn’t play the game (which is obvious) and isn’t familiar with the famous faces of strategic nuances, but making comments under the assumption that single round wins between matches are cumulative seems a bit unprofessional to me.
the ustream chat during his commentary was so damn funny Ive never laughed so hard in my life
Sessler was poor but they needed the footage for the 30 min xplay special also.
LOL the only person he probably heard of was some japanese guy name Daigo being a champions and justin Wong. He probably mention daigo like x50…even when two other players were in a match.
This guy should have been talking about the stock market on CNBC.
HEY GUYZ I DUNNO WHAT YOUR PROBLEM IS SESSLER IS THE BEST HE KNOWS WHAT A COMBO IS
x
^^^
stream monsters rule
sessler was ok
a breath of fresh air after the shitty comentators they get on there all weekend
can i do better, no
and that’s why i’m not doing it
keits i like you man but i just can’t listen to you talk all fucking weekend
skisonic lost is voice and should know when to just stay off the mike
james chen was so-so but i think he gets a little over excited
s-kill is always fine even if i have to hear “a rare ____” over and over again
tekken was ok, aris kinda rambles and having all cali players was weird. they didn’t want to point out mistakes made by their own players and even though aris is knowledable about the game he doesn’t know shit about the community outside of the circle jerk
too bad sf4 kinda sucks I know people would love to see rockefeller up there
the best commentator all weekend was bell during the melty blood finals
everyone else i didn’t mention was pretty good also
EVO step your shit up and give some more people time on the mic instead of just members of the cool kids club.
