Mario Kart 8
Raskulls

**
About this tournament and who we are:**

After a 5 year hiatus we finally have the facilities to once again run large tournies and are resurrecting the annual tournament for our region: Rumble in the Tundra (For awhile we were not able to find a suitable venue after the first one was closed off, large enough to house a large quantity of players in, hence the dormancy). The aim here is to remind people that there can still be “large” regional tournaments that don’t need to take multiple days, won’t be hamstrung by numerous delays/inefficient management and that won’t gouge the players by costing a ton of money just to get in the door. This event is truly all about the players having a good time and seeking to highlight the fierce competition in our region!

We were and still are The Largest Video Game Tournament in WNY!

This is how it’s going down and what you can expect:

  • Pot bonuses worth traveling regionally for.
  • Responsible and accountable tournament staff members.
  • An extremely well organized and efficiently run bracket for each game.
  • Brackets that WILL start on time and END on time.
  • No hassles, 100% taken in from this event of the money goes right to the players.
  • A large local player-base to compete against.
  • Space for everyone, no more cramping in small venues. (Food/Drink options are available on premises)

5 Years ago we had a huge turnout at RitT 3 despite almost no pre-hype, over 100 players showed up in an era before tourney populations exploded, events got streamed and players got sponsored often. We plan on an even better turnout this time, for what is sure to be an electric event! Please come out and enjoy yourself!

Interested in Sponsorship or Helping out?
We are providing all the pot bonuses, expenses and other fees out of our own pocket, because we enjoy our FGC and want to reward players willing to come out and support us. However, if you are interested in helping out or potentially sponsoring this or future events with us, we’d welcome any offers/assistance/inquiries! Please contact me through any medium that is convenient for you. We’d love to help out anyone that supports the FGC and sincerely appreciate any offers to help make this a more memorable event, no matter how small or trivial they may seem to you!

We’re not a major… and aren’t pretending to be one. With future increased support from surrounding areas, perhaps we can look to one day becoming one. But for now, we stick to calling this a large 1-day event and hope that is good enough to garner interest for players within ‘extended day trip’ range :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for taking the time to read the above statements, and I hope to see many of you curious onlookers soon!

I’ll leave you with an example of the hypeness brought during RitT3’s SF4 grand finals:

Questions???

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to post up in this thread, if you would rather use PM- feel free to message me any time (I still monitor all FGC forums). If you’d rather email, please contact me at- rumbleinthetundra@gmail.com

If you are interested in overnight accommodations and/or crash space availability, I will be updating that information closer to the event as well.

Since this was announced so early, expect changes and update in the coming months, please check this thread regularly…

-Cha Cha

I’m very interested in attending this!

Shoutouts to Cha and Volker for setting this up. Glad to see a big tournament in my home town.

I will definitely be there.

BTW, the venue is awesome: they got a bar/restaurant (sometimes with a live band playing), and a driving range, among other things. If you love fighting games and are a golf enthusiast (like me), you owe it to yourself to come.

The side tourney is going to be mad hype. We have enough side games to tickle anyone’s fancy. Shit’s gonna be awesome

Id like to suggest smash 4 as a side event as well. At the time of this event only the ds version will be out. And I am personally completely willing and able to run that bracket personally if need be

A distinct possibility, I shall add it to the more definitive ‘side tourney’ options list in the coming month. Right now it is just a loose bunch of suggestions, we will refine it based on the interested generated thus far and go from there.

I can’t wait for this. Get hype people!

I vote we hold a mini-Third Strike tournament just for giggles. Heck, I’ll even run it - $1 entry, the winner gets a bunch of tacos. It will be hilariously awful.

So far we have had suggestions for Project M/Melee, Windjammers, Quiz and Dragons and 3S side tournies during the Friday pre-party. Keep discussing anything else you’d like to see added!

I have cleaned up the OP as well as added a link for the official Rumble website (under construction still), which will have us accepting pre-registration soon!

I will also be updating this thread soon with our ‘Road to Rumble’ series of fundraiser tournament results and videos. Stay tuned folks! (spoilers Jug isn’t winning them all)

7/12 tourney is now up.

I will run a WindJammers side tourney if anyone if interested. I am also looking to see if anyone wants in on TMNT: Tournament Fighters (SNES) one.

We are considering dropping SC5 due to no initial or subsequent interest expressed to our community since the announcement. We are likely to replace it with Smash, as we have a community in WNY that will show up for the event in spades. The vote right now is between Melee and Project M. If you are interested in attending, please let us know your thoughts on which Smash version you’d like to see played and/or participate in.

thanks all!

(facebook discussion: https://www.facebook.com/events/306124079546267/)

It’s official that Project M will replace SC5 for Saturday. As a SC player I’m kinda saddened by this but I expected it as well. I’m happy for the more popular game getting the spotlight and at least now I can just focus on Tekken instead.

Yea, you kind of preempted me there, but due to lack of interest in SC5 and overwhelming local interest in including Project M- we decided to move Project M to a main event and demote SC5 to a Friday night pre-party side tourney.

The full schedule for both the pre-party and main tournaments will be up soon, as will pre-registration (hopefully by tonight)

Stay tuned!

Hey everyone, Pre-Registration for Rumble in the Tundra 4 is finally up!!

The website is kind of barebones at the moment, but the registration is working 100% and has instructions on how to add multiple game entries to your cart.
We will be putting up player lists as soon as we start receiving a good amount of pre-registrations, brackets will be posted on the day of the event. Pre-reg will be cut off on 9/15.

Other Updates for those who missed:

  • Smash Bros. Project M has been added as a main event. Soulcalibur 5 has been demoted to a side tourney during the Friday Night pre-party. The interest from the Smash community was real, and no one event batted any eye at SC5 being a main event, so there you have it.

  • Voting for Friday pre-party events is almost at a close, if you wanna see or propose a game to become a side tourney, please let us know! (here, via email, facebook, anywhere)

So far it looks like a lock for-
Windjammers (arcade)
Quiz and Dragons three-man team 1CC contest
SoulCalibur 5
Injustice GAU
Smash Bros Melee
Mario Party 5 or 7
Mario Kart 8
Raskulls
Breaker’s Revenge… and other mystery FGs!

All Friday events will be can be signed up for on the day of the event. Times/Details will be posted a few weeks before Rumble happens.

Please show up and help us grow this tourney and test your skills against WNY’s best players! Or, if you think little of our scene, come try to get OUR MONEY!!

My Money is on for either Windjammers or Raskulls. Actually you know what I don’t see? The manliest game ever: Twinkle Star Sprites!

It may be too manly for the casuals coming to this tourney Jon. Some people actually need to take steroids just to play it.

Reminder to all that Pre-Registration is filling up!

Pre-reg here: http://rumble.watch

If you don’t have paypal, you can always work something out with me directly. Just post on the FB event page:
https://www.facebook.com/events/306124079546267/
or send me a PM here!

The turnout is looking pretty great! Upstate, Toronto/Southern Ontario, PA, OH and NYC are all sending a good amount of players. Don’t miss out!

This $1000 in pot bonus money ain’t gonna win itself…

I think a UNIEL side tournament would be cool but I’m not sure what the interest for it would be

Don’t want to impose on tournament organization or anything, but UNIEL side tourney definitely needs to happen.
