Sentinel is DONE in umvc3

From what I’m seeing across the board (except for Dante) is they are trying to stop combo videos in real matches. No more having 1 character take out 1 character by themselves in 15 game seconds. I think that’s the main reason they stopped RP to HSF. In Vanilla Sent could simply magic series into launcher magic series into ground into Punch into HSF into relaunch in the corner. Now you can’t relaunch because you can’t HSF after the punch. Therefore it may be a bit harder for Sent to kill someone at full health in 1 combo with no DHC or X-factor. This applies to much of the cast now especially Zero and Magneto who can barely take away half HP from Hulk or Thor now with 1 combo by themselves in Ultimate.

This is why they didn’t nerf Sent’s damage overall but nerfed how long his combos go. I need to play tonight when I get home but he seems solid still and I don’t think anyone will drop him as of yet.

Well anyone who still played him played him cause of the assist and that didn’t get nerfed so yea I don’t see anyone dropping him in ultimate. He still has one of the best assists in the game, and considering akuma, haggar and tron all got nerfed, one could argue he has the best assist of the vanilla cast. And I definitely get where your coming from, and to an extent I agree with it, but correct me if Im wrong, but sent was designed to one touch kill characters. Lets be real here, once you get past the day 1 nonsense of hitting buttons next to sentinel, he actually has to work to open people up, no hurp derp :l: :m: :h: berserker slash into 80 percent, if you get opened up by sent at higher levels you deserve to lose that character. Couple that with the fact that they took away 400k of his health, the only thing that kept him terrifying was the fact that he could touch you and kill your character, now its looking like he can’t even do that anymore.

Like I said, hopefully capcom know what they are doing, Im not of the people who have these conspiracy theories that capcom actively try to make characters bottom tier, so Im gonna place my faith in capcom that they know something I don’t know since they can see the bigger picture. But on paper, none of this shit makes sense.

sentinel can be very frightening at high level, his TK hard drive loop in the corner is so deadly, if you get caught in that, it’s a dead character for sure, sentinel doesn’t suck, he only sucks to lazy players who now have to think and do more of his advanced combos to get damage, and not press cr.M the entire match.

I actually agree with you that Sent was designed to herp derp instant kill someone. But does that make it a fun and balanced game? not really.That’s why Sent was one of the more common characters in competitive play in Vanilla along with Wesker, Phoenix, Haggar, Tron, etc etc.

In terms of the assist stuff, I think Capcom does not want it that way anymore. They half listened to the community and half took it their own direction. I honestly don’t like what they did to Tron Haggar assists. Should’ve left them invincible. The easiest solution to balancing them? You can’t combo off of the assist. They are both considered “get off me” assists, so have them do just that. Have them push them back or knock them away so you can’t combo off of it. Then it is really a “get off me” assist, not a “get off me now I get to combo you to death” assist.

But yea you guys are right, I should either drop sentinel or shut-up and I love the big lug too much to ever drop him(plus drones are prolly still gonna be top 5 assists in the game), I just usually do this pre-release to let out steam before the actual game drops.

Sentinel still feels like he’ll be a beast in Ultimate. He feels a little bit faster, can still do unfly and relaunch combo’s. Hell, one combo practically leads to the corner that often leads to shenanigans in his favor. And with a few meters he can still kill pretty much the entire cast, his combo’s just need to be reworked a bit if you usually end your combo’s with Rocket Punch xx HSF, but you’ll benefit a lot more in the long run.

The nerfs like the additional loss of 10k life and standing S being super armor instead of Hyper hardly hurt him when you see how other characters got changed. He can still zone, rush down, pressure, and do damage.

Yea played a little sent today, and he still feels good, I just go for dash forward plasma storm now instead of HSF. Other than that nothings changed, his assist is still beastly and he still has some of the best air normals, still does a lot of damage(I got 850k of an unfly combo) still has less health than I think he needs. Im still sticking with him and I’ve been running him and trish to great effect.

I am disappointed that you can’t hard drive air x-factor frying pan, at least it didn’t work the few times I tried it.

I found that I had to hit with an M first before the pan (but I couldn’t get it to work 100% of the time), or alternately, you can do another Hard Drive, then follow up with cr.M, then combo. Sent is still definitely strong in UMVC3.

Why wouldn’t that work? I’d imagine if you XF’d on the last hit which pops them super high spinning state, it would be possible.

Yea I was trying it out mid-match, I don’t own the game so I only get to play at my friends place and no one wants to sit back and watch me test shit out in training mode right? If I can get some lab time with the game ill sit down and see if I can get it to work, and if so if I can get it to work consistently.

Yes Sent is still a beast. My fly unfly combo + TK RP+ hard drive+ Cr.M+Plasma storm XF plasma storm does 1.1mil dmg on xf lvl1. I’d say he is still in it to win it.

Okay, I’m testing the new Sentinel, umm, I know the juggle to Rocket, HSF doesn’t combo anymore. But, when I do his usual MS, jMHS, the jMH hits but the jS misses. I have to neutral jump him for the jMHS, which will put the enemy like a mile away from me rather then regular distance. I think it’s because of the new feature where character jump alot faster up during juggle launcer super jumps.

I’d hope so, if Sentinel isn’t doing at least 1 mil in X Factor, you’re doing it wrong.

Start doing a fly combo and you stop having this problem.

I have a problem with his fly combos online. I have to admit I didn’t play much online in vanilla, and I’m probably going to stop in this game, since my offline Sentinel has evolved beyond ABC combos.

On an unrelated note, I don’t think the following combo works in the corner anymore (nor mid screen)

[st.b/cr.b] > S, sj. C xx fly xx sj.a > sj.HK unfly >land> S > sj. b, double jump, sj.b, sj.c, sj. S.

Seems like HSD kicks in when I do my relaunch and the fall out of the combo before I can get the double jump. This character use to work on nearly everyone, including small characters, but can’t get it to work anymore.

Your notation is kind of confusing. But that combo still works. If you mean cr.m/s.m, S, sj.c xx fly, j.l j.h xx unfly (wait) j.h (land) S sj.m xx double jump j.m,h,s. I drop the last j.m for consistency though.

j.h xx fly j.l j.h xx unfly j.m xx double jump j.h j.s is very consistent and easy.

Yeah I know, but his unfly relaunch double jump combo was my favorite combo to do in the corner :frowning: . Oh well I guess I’ll make due. I’m really loving Racoons log assist to extend Sentinel’s combos. I think him and rocket racoon have really good synergy, and he helps Sent’s point game a lot.

I just said the unfly relaunch still works.

I’m sure it does, but it seems more inconsistent. I don’t do inconsistent combos in match. My execution is way too ass to be going for the unreliable shit. Oh well maybe I’ll tighten that up.

Things are only as inconsistent as you make them, you don’t practice it consistently you won’t get it consistently. This is marvel, the combos are dead easy overall so just spend sometime in training mode to get an overall feel for the timing and you’ll be good. Plus its sentinel, the only difficult combo he ever had was taken out of the game so theres really no reason not to master his unfly combos.
