Selfless bus driver dies after protecting his passengers

But for real though, I don’t understand how this guy “gave his life” to save passengers.

Dude got tragically, randomly, and suddenly peaced out with a flying chunk of metal, there was no sacrifice involved.

Kudos to him for stopping the bus, but I gotta be honest - that’s not really like running into a burning building to rescue a baby level type of feat. Guy died four days later.

Don’t get me wrong, it was admirable what he did, and good on him for having the sense of mind to look out for the bus…but I don’t know why it’s such a big story.

Why did his family turn down the donations to save his life?

I think that is just an unsubstantiated rumour…Chinese people don’t donate to other Chinese people, that is crazy.

RACISM

This I’m curious to hear. What is my theme?

Never said you did. I was making a comment about social interactions in general.

I was making an observation about how people respond to heroics compared to the choices that seem to be normative in a given context. I didn’t say this to stir people up but merely make them think. If people wish to respond with rudeness that’s their choice, just as it’s your freedom to say it’s tasteless.

If it’s not ok to reflect on our own actions when we consider the actions of a hero, then what is the purpose of having a hero to begin with?

I’m glad to hear that, but again, this comment wasn’t directed specifically at you. I was making a statement about the norms of interaction and communication in a virtual online environment. People tend to use their anonymity to do things they wouldn’t normally do because they feel they can get away with it.

But just because you CAN do something, doesn’t mean you SHOULD. This has been brought up in modern pop culture with things like Spiderman’s famous quote ‘with great power comes great responsibility’, Jurassic Park, etc.

It’s also been explored in ethics throughout the ages:

Plato also explores this with Gloucon in the Ring of Gyges story.

On the contrary, I find such thoughts the complete opposite of tasteless.

Yeah, I thought that too. I just copied the name until I could think of something better.
I agree that it isn’t a Hollywood-dramatic death, but I think the reason why it’s so tragic is because this video shows us that a resectable man gets his life tragically cut short. His passengers could have easily panicked and some might even run out onto the highway, but even under distress he thought of their safety, giving them instructions to keep them safe as well as giving them positive reassurance in such a confusing situation in spite of his injuries.

It’s such a simple act of a good deed, but we want to honor his memory.

That’s true, I certainly wouldn’t have stopped the bus if I was in his shoes.

I’d have turned around and kept on driving directly to the hospital, with all 24 passengers in tow, if I blacked out on the way, then fuck 'em.

That video’s scary too, it’s like blue sky all the way…a tiny spot appears, and then a split second later, BOOM RIGHT IN THE GUT WHAT THE FUCK

After we stop blowing each other up about differences in Skywizard Worship and natural resources, we can work on Internet Civility.

Actually, in between those two things, I want Gundams to happen. Then a nice internet.

Dude, it’s CHINA. If they knew he was dying, they would have just wandered off, uninterested. MAYBE taken a cell phone pic or 2. They’re not north american hippy chicks chicks. They don’t freak the fuck out when they see someone die over there because, like, ohmygawd, we’re all precious snowflakes and life is special, y’know?. No…they just display casual interest…or none at all (in case you somehow haven’t heard what happens when there’s a public death over there after all the news about such things that have been in threads here and other sites). Nobody’s gonna run into traffic like a hysterical asian Gene Wilder, throwing themselves on top of cars for help, unless THEIR ass is next on the kill list. Trust me on this one. I was wrong that time I tried to supe up a hedgehog by tossing one into the load aperture of a particle accelerator, but China’s proven this theory themselves, saving me the trouble of flying over there, faking fatal injuries in public places, and recording the nonchalant reactions with hidden cameras.

i already explained in a previous post in this thread why the chinese often times dont help people who are badly hurt. they dont have good samaritan laws and can/will get sued by douchebags.

Because they’re so afraid they will be called greedy, they wouldn’t take it if it were forced upon them. Chinese have this neurotic shit they do where at a kid’s birthday, they give them money as a present. If the kid takes the money, they get bitched at for somehow being greedy, and then their parents get shit talked to them for raising such a greedy child.
scenario 1:

Asshole: Here, Chen, here’s some money for candy and fireworks. Happy birthday!

Chen: takes envelope while bowing Thank y-

Asshole: slaps Chen AIYAAAA! What a GREEDY brat!!

Later, on phone or in marketplace:

Asshole: Your child is fuckin’ spoiled rotten! And so GREEDY. I thought you were good people, but apparently you’re just money-grubbing scum. You can be sure everyone will hear of this!

Okay…so maybe Chen should just appear to reluctantly take the money? Here’s what happens:

Chen: No thanks. This party is enough.

Asshole: Oh come on! let me show how much I adore you with a few yuan.

Chen: No, I’d feel bad if I took your money.

Asshole: So humble. Don’t worry, our stand in the market is doing really well. We won’t miss it.

Chen: All right. Th-

Asshole: AIYAAA! slaps Chen Has anyone ever SEEN a child so greedy?! Snatching like a monkey! How can you even LOOK at people?!

The thing to do is to NOT take the money you’re offered…they give the money to your parents to give to you later…but they try like a motherfucker to bully your ass into taking it at the party just so they can talk shit about you and your family if you do. That shit’s bound to fuck people up. No samaritan law may play a part of it, but I’m sure the major factor is they’ve been conditioned by upbringings that punish acting on human nature which results in them acting…well, contrary to human nature and devoid of empathy, aside from a few rare cases.

What the fuck are you talking about, what is this racist drivel?

Maybe just stick to Lion King fan fiction if this is what else you’ve got going on.

your scenario sounds a lot like the pen episode, and we all know how that turned out. great episode

but maybe you’re right rhio…or maybe the family just didn’t want a hand out?

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID WHORE

WU BIN NEVER FORGET

After watching this multiple times at multiple places. I’m still shocked to see how well he took that hit initially. That was like Real life Focus Armor.

Damn, that bus driver must have been thinking “What the fuck is that…” before he even knew what hit him, especially since it came from the opposite side of traffic.

Just because you can post off topic crap and derail the thread, doesn;t mean you should. The attitude of SRK had nothing to do with the thread and here you are talking about anything but the topic. You’re far more rude then anyone else in this thread, you can’t even bothered to be on topic.

She/he is a troll. She is having fun with the whole feminist on misogynist SRK who fell in love with one of members. So much so she came back after she left to make fun of that one poster. You guys keep getting baited into a new episode of the sitcom.

The topic was the heroic actions of a man who made a choice that was well admired. I simply asked why can’t people make similar heroic choices in regards to how they treat each other. After all, if we can admire a man why not let his values be reflected in our actions?

I think asking such a thing is very relevant in a thread about a hero. I’m sure this guy would be honored if he knew others were trying to use his actions to bring people together and create a greater sense of harmony. I don’t see that as rude at all.

You can call it trolling all you want, but if you ask me I think a lot of you are just defending your choice to be an asshole. You know you don’t have to be that way. You know you have a choice and having that brought up can make you defensive. Doing the right thing often isn’t easy, and this guy is a great example of that.

I know a lot of you might think this is the internet, it doesn’t count. Everyone else is being a dick so why can’t I be one too. But I think that’s one of the saddest things about the world today. So much negativity just breeds more negativity. I was trying to push things in the opposite direction, and I feel that is the right thing to do. I know it’s not a very popular choice but I follow my heart.

If a hero cannot help us to reflect upon ourselves and improve our actions, then what is the purpose of honoring them to begin with?

Stop trying to get into a penis-swinging match with Matriarch.
