Damn, really sucks to hear.
It tripped me out how he was able to tell everyone not to run around because they were still on the highway. He prevented further disaster on top of what just happened while suffering internal bleeding!
Sad news indeed, RIP.
That piece of metal was speculated to have come flying off from a truck passing by on the oncoming highway to the driver’s left. You can just make it out at ~13 seconds in the second video I embedded.
Shit wasn’t strapped down from the looks of that truck, and because of Newton’s Law of of Inertia that piece of metal had to continue traveling in the same general direction… he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
That shot of him getting hit by the metal is really frightening.
Man, imagine that piercing through his body. Internal organs ruptured, arms cut, internal bleeding. Immediate stinging pain in his abdomen and a heavy sinking feeling in his gut. He had to think about the safety of his passengers before he could attend to himself. All the meanwhile blood is pooling inside while he waits for help to arrive. That pain must have been unbearable.
You two should just fuck and get it over with and if “she” turns out to be a dude, that’s more laughs for me.
The bus driver looked like he only got the wind knocked out of him, but obviously he had some significant internal injuries.
I would’ve been panickin’ and hollerin’ for da Ambalamps if I were in his situation.
Thread title is misleading. He didn’t GIVE his life, he was fucked anyway. He just wasn’t a dick about it and was as helpful as possible in his last moments. Amazing for what you hear coming out of China normally.
people in china can be very generous kind and caring. the reason shit happens where someone is dying on the street and on one helps is because the litigation in that society does not have any kind of good samaritan law, so if you help a dude and they are hurt more or die, you will get your pants sued off. since most people in china are dirt poor they cant really afford to have that happen to them.
but whenever i go back they treat me like a dick. cause i can speak chinese pretty fluently, but there are some vocab words i am not familiar with. so when i order food at mcdonalds and they ask me “would you like that for here or to go?” and i say “hey can you repeat the question i dont understand” they think i’m fucking with them because they think i’m from there.
I didn’t understand how this was heroic until I processed that he actually slowed down and explicitly told the passengers not to go outside, seeing as how without direction it is most likely that they would have panicked and ran to get help for him.
Yes, hero is a fitting title indeed.
I suggest we all listen to the video above. A moment of silence to consider what it really means to put the lives of others before yourself.
This guy is a hero because he made a choice to do something right and decent for his fellow human. That is why we admire him.
We all have the chance to make choices to do right and decent things all the time (even on internet forums).
I just find it interesting and a bit ironic that we greatly admire the choices people like this guy make, and yet, most people will simply be shitheads whenever they have the opportunity. They COULD be right and decent, but they’d rather take the easy and selfish route.
Choice is what defines our merit as individuals. That’s why people who fought for equality like Dr. Martin Luther King made statements which centered around the merit of character. Everyone has the freedom to be a hero or an asshole when circumstances arise, and it is on that in which they should be judged. Not their race, sex, or any other attribute that is beyond the scope of choice.

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”
