Just took out the Guardian Ape. The fight seemed insane at first, but I learned that popping an Ako Sugar then hitting him with Oil+upgraded Flame Vent just destroys his first phase. I actually found his 2nd phase easier than the first one, all of his attacks seemed easier to react to in that phase EXCEPT for that AoE attack he does which causes terror. That move almost got me in my last attempt.
Genichiro was the hardest boss for me so far, it took me a bunch of tries to take him out. I learned that in his first phase his perilous attack is always the one you can counter with Circle, and in his 2nd phase his perilous attack was always the one you counter with a jump. Always. Once I realized this I could make it to the third phase with most of my gourds ready to go. I never properly learned his 3rd phase though, I barely took him out. I don’t think I even had any healing gourds left when I did.
Is the Plat difficult in this game or is it just beat all of the bosses+hit whatever you missed in NG+?
I’ve Platinum’d all of From’s recent games except for DSIII and BB.
The plat is pretty straightforward, yeah
His second phase is deffinitly easier then the first one. He thrashes around a lot less and loses all his combos. No more poop/farting either lol. The Terror Scream is deffinitly his most dangerous move until you realize the Umbrella Prosthetic blocks it completely lol.
Actually He does do the thrust in the second phase he just does it a lot lot less. He’s been the hardest for me as well, two and half solid hours of learning him. He was the boss for me that forced me to stop fucking around and play the game properly instead of finding alternatives.
I have no clue what the Platinum entails. I don’t think it’s too tough. What you think of the game?
Yeah I died the most to Genichiro by far. That’s a fight you pretty much have to learn and there doesn’t seem to be any real way to cheese him that I know of. I didn’t know he did thrusts moves in his 2nd phase, I swear everytime I fought him in that form he stuck with sweeping moves. I took out Lady Butterfly in my 1st or 2nd attempt but her ghost summons almost got me. The Drunkard I took out on my first try, bit I went through all of my gourds and I hit him with the oil+flame vent cheese. The first real boss(the guy on the horse) fucked me up quite a few times(he also loosely reminded me of the 2nd boss in Ninja Gaiden on the bridge) until I started to hookshot towards him for free hits —> Firecrackers when it felt right.
I like the game but I’d say it’s my least favorite recent From Software game overall. Mainly I hate that they took out all of the RPG elements(which they almost did with Bloodborne, that game barely has any compared to the Souls series) and I hate that 99% of the boss fights/regular fights boil down to you breaking their posture. It makes the combat feel like you have no options. In the Souls games I felt you had more tools at your disposal at any given time and different ways to deal with encounters whereas Sekiro gives you one weapon type throughout the entire game with a very limited moveset even when you factor in the couple of ones that you can unlock+equip sprinkled with some prosthetics on top.
I like that the gameplay is fast, I like how mobile Wolf feels overall but I just hate that 99% of the fights turn into break their posture: the game. The world isn’t as interesting to explore because there aren’t really any items you can equip. No armors. No new weapons. Just random items that buff/heal you/materials to upgrade you prosthetics. Meanwhile in Souls some exploring could lead you to a new badass weapon with a new moveset, maybe a cool armor set, all kinds of shit. In Sekiro the most I got from exploring was some Coin Pouches, Prayer Beads and those Carp Scales.
I’m still enjoying it though but I’m slowly making my way through the game whereas with Souls and BB I could not put them down. It was the same with Nioh, I could not put that game down until I got the Plat. I also enjoyed Nioh more than Sekiro as well, the combat was way better imo. I’d take Sekiro’s level design and world over Nioh’s though.
Genichiro is what I’d call the “Wake Up Call” boss of the game, but I wouldn’t place him in the top 5 honestly. My top five (without spoiling) would be:
- Normal Ending Final Boss
- Shura Ending Final Boss
- True Corrupt Monk
- Demon of Hatred
- Purification Ending Exclusive Boss
I’m pretty okay with the combat, my only issue is that I wish it was easier and quicker to change out Combat Arts. I’d have used Shadowfall and High Monk a lot more if I didn’t have to commit to just one Combat Art, and I usually stuck with Ichimonji Double because its more effective in general situations. You already can’t do any action when holding down block other than a Combat Art or movement, so why not let us have two or three Combat Arts active with different button combos depending on the slot we put them in?
Edit: I guess I also wish the camera was fixed, but that’s FROM Soft for you. Another change I’d like would be I wish stealth wasn’t so … easy? Like, guards’ll walk on top of dead bodies lying around like it’s nothing, alerted guards who have fresh wounds’ll go right back to their normal routes after a minute… considering this was gonna be a new Tenchu, I just wish the stealth was more fleshed out.
Wolf’s Fajer is fucking me up. Another fight you have to learn. Are any prosthetics even worth a damn in this fight? I don’t even think firecrackers are worth using because their startup will get you hit(though I feel if you jump --> firecracker it’s actually faster than just doing it on the ground.)
I didn’t back up my save so I rekt myself out of one the endings, I picked the option where I defend the kid. I hear all of the bosses from here on out are absolutely brutal.
Wolf’s fajer? what?
Also don’t worry about the endings thing too much, the game has new game plus, and it’s not that difficulty honestly, once you’re armed with the knowledge of how to kill everything.
Wolf’s Fajer. Your dad.
What are the changes in NG+? Just the usual enemies have more health+do more damage?
Yeah, but after the first completion you will start all playthroughs with a new key item. If you return the item to Kurou you basically turn on hard mode, which increases enemy stats further but also makes it so blocking attacks causes you to take chip damage. Deflect still stops all incoming damage though.
Fajer is an Austin Powers reference and means Father.
Googles “fajer”
It actually does.
But it is a majorly rare version.
Fajer>Fader>Fadir.
I’m surprised The Runed One didn’t chime in.
Finally started to play. At the moment, I am not as engaged with it as I thought. Definitely see why people enjoy it with the tension that the experience provides, but I feel like it is very linear.
The beginning is pretty linear, but the game opens up a little later.
Ok, now the game has finally “clicked”
Firecrackers work on bird man boss. Other than that, you just have to learn the fight and exploit certain openings.
Screw you Grape Ninja! That is all for tonight. The camera got me killed more than anything else.
Improvements to Strategic Approaches
- Adjusted the efficiency and Spirit Emblem cost of the following to encourage usage and diversity of approach:

Inadvertently got to the serpent at the bottom of the valley. Surprised that I got “hit” and survived the encounter.
Whew, i need to build my nuts back up to get into this again. Been a few weeks since I tried to beat the chained ogre again.
