Now that I’ve got my fill of DMC5, I need to get on this. Target needs to hurry up and bring back that B2G1.

Beat the Final Boss two nights ago. Went for the Purification Ending because I didn’t want to have to fight the boss exclusive to that Ending ever again - now I can just skip him on my New Game Pluses.

Only boss I have left is the one exclusive to the Shura ending, but I’ll probably save that for my last playthrough - it ends the game early and I want as much attack upgrades as possible each time I go through the game.

What I find crazy about New Game Plus is that so far I haven’t died to a single boss, but that Gun-Spear chick mini-boss who is right at the start of the Gun Fort kicked my ass twice. Hate how her grab has tracking. But yeah, it’s great kicking all these bosses asses again - even though they do a hell of a lot more damage, just knowing their movesets really makes the fights a ton easier.

Seeing a lot of people just getting into the game, so here’s a few tips:

Block as much as possible, especially if it’s a new encounter. VERY few enemies, even most bosses, have a way of punishing you for your posture getting broken. Only reason to not block to an unfamiliar opponent is Perilous Attacks (Red Kanji Pop Up). When an opponent does a Perilous Attack and you aren’t familiar with their moveset, I’d honestly recommend you move back + to the left/right as far as you can. Study what they do so you can punish it next time.

When an opponent does a Perilous Attack, with very few exceptions it’ll be a Grab, a Sweep or a Thrust. Make sure you punish Sweeps and Thrusts with their appropriate counters, as jumping on sweeps and Mikiri Counters do significant posture damage. If you know your opponent is going to do a Grab, it’s usually best to disengage the lock on, as lock on restricts your movement.

The only other Perilous Attacks I remember are the Lightning Strikes - you should jump to be in mid-air and swing your sword soon as it hits, ALWAYS go for this as the reward for success far outweighs the risk; Guardian Ape’s Terror Field which you should avoid at all costs as a full Terror Guage equals Death; and all of the Great Serpent and Great Colored Carps attacks, which, yeah, you just better hope the hitbox gods smile upon you at that moment.

Most regular enemies and mini-bosses only have one type of Perilous Attack. Most bosses only have two. In almost all cases, the Perilous Attacks will either have heavy start up frames OR will only be done in very specific situations, such as after a certain combo or when the player is a certain distance away.

Don’t forget your Prosthetic Tools. Shurikens can be very useful in certain battles, especially if the opponent jumps a lot. If you can catch an enemy jumping at you with a shuriken, they’ll fall to the ground and you’ll be able to hit them for free afterward. This’ll help a lot of fights. Any enemy with Red Eyes is extremely weak to Fire. Every animal (except the undead/divine) is extremely weak to Firecrackers - heck, even many humans get tripped up by them. Umbrella and it’s upgrades can make certain unblockable attacks blockable. The Thrusting Spear has many great uses, such as double tapping it on the Guardian Ape after he gets knocked down from parrying his huge overhead sword swing. I see a lot of people just flat out forgetting Prosthetic Tools exist, so don’t make that mistake. Finger Whistle - and especially it’s upgrades - can help out a lot of situations. Mountain Echo can help you pick off powerful groups of enemies by splitting them up and stealth killing them little by little, while Malcontent will help out against Appartition-type enemies, especially the Demon of Hatred which I consider to be in the top 3 hardest bosses in the game.

Finally, here’s the Skills I’d go for first if I had to do it all over again:
Mikiri Counter
Breath of Life: Light
Ichimonji: Double
Emma’s Medicine: Potency
Emma’s Medicine: Aroma
Devotion

Secondary after these skills would be any that do more posture damage to your opponents. While keeping life high is most important for you, depleting posture is the most important thing for your opponents. Most bosses can’t even be killed when their life is at zero, it’s just that depleting their life makes it easier and quicker to break their posture.

Man this fucking game doesn’t get any easier does it? Now I’m stuck vs Owl

The learning curve is brutal and while you’re in it, no, the game doesn’t get easier, but once you get over that it actually gets a lot easier

It doesn’t get easier but it’s possible to cheese the game with clever item usage.

Learning their moves really makes the game a lot easier. I’m tearing through New Game Plus, just killed that boss that drops the little balls that disable your item usage on my first attempt even though I probably spent an hour plus on him my first time through. Even with him having more life and doing a hell of a lot more damage, just knowing what he does helps out a ton.

Fight did take forever though. Felt much longer than the first time.

Oh my God dudes, the Finger Whistle is absolutely hilarious. Using it on that group of monkeys just before Guardian Ape, using it on the Fountainhead Nobles that are surrounded by those water dogs, I can’t help but laugh seeing them tear themselves apart.

Edit: Just beat Demon of Hatred again. Only took me 4 tries this time. Knowing the matchup really does make a huge difference.

I’m at the end of the game now and, aside from the story related Dragonrot, I’ve not had a single case of Dragonrot thus far.

I’m sure Sword Saint will end that though…

Target has a B1 G1 at 50% off. Guess who’s going to be dying a lot this weekend!

Beat Sword Saint again. He felt just as hard as the first time, but I’m pretty sure I beat him faster this time… it’s just so damn frustrating. It feels like his has 50 different moves, some of which are straight up fake outs - like it’ll give the perilous attack warning, he’ll go for the stance he normally does for his sword-sheathing iaido sweep… and then it’ll just change in a flash to a piercing thrust attack so that if you were jumping or backing away, you get clipped.

Yea his moveset is fucking huge.

There is a tell for the phase 1 Perilous attacks. For the thrust attack, he will ALWAYS hit you with the hilt of the sword first in a thrusting motion, followed by the actual Perilous Attack that’s the thrust. For the sweep, he also does an attack first but I can’t remember what it is exactly, but he will go into a stance with his sheath behind him and his knees bent before doing that attack and then the Perilous sweep.

I wish the Perilous Attack Kanji appeared over their heads instead of mine.

I agree actually, it sometimes obscures the enemy. Either that or maybe just make it appear centered on Wolf’s body

Yea it was a huge problem for me when learning the first real Genichiro fight. He does that jumping sword slash and follows up with one of two different perilous attacks. With all the dust he kicks up with the initial sword slash and then the Kanji I had to look for the little shine on his sword to see what he was gonna do cuz I sure as shit couldn’t see him.

I just sidestepped that overhead attack and then smacked him with Ichimonji Double. lol
