Damn, thanks for informing me before I sprung out for a PSP. Shame though, would be cool to play the games.
I picked up Yakuza Dead Souls last weekend, dying to play it (hilarious pun not intended), but I’m going overseas next weekend for a few weeks. I don’t want to start the game and then have to drop it just as I get into it
Has anyone been playing it? Thoughts? It looks like I won’t enjoy it as much as the other games, but it still looks like it’ll be fun, and packed with loads of content.
I’ve only played an hour or so of it, but can’t give full judgement on the gameplay yet.
One thing you gotta keep in mind is not to try and play it like the traditional games.
Reading up on it’s Trophy list, this may be the first yakuza game I platinum XD
After playing for a few more hours…
Only in Japan
ONLY IN JAPAN
Will have half the city be sealed off by gignatic metallic gate things to ward off thousands of zombies, while the rest of the city goes on it’s daily life like nothing VERY out of the ordinary is happening
Only thing I don’t like about the game so far is that when in FPS mode (Hold L2), you have to use the LEFT stick to move the Cursor, this can be troublesome since various shooting games have the cursor movement with the right stick =_=.
Regardless I am loving this game and Goro’s a fucking badass.
Only Goro is crazy awesome enough to BACKHAND A STONE-COATED GORILLA ZOMBIE GIANT then proceed to blast it to oblivion
Just beat the game, the ending was friggin’ epic.
Really like the game but sadly it has it’s flaws:
1- Some of the areas you fight zombies in can be irritating to move around in
2- Frame rate drops when certain actions are performed, fortunately that didn’t make me lose the game at any point, but it would’ve been better without it
3- L2/FPS mode requiring you to use the LEFT stick to move the cursor, granted this is more fo a personal issue since in most shooters I’ve played the cursor is moved via the RIGHT stick
Those are main gripes Off the top of my head. Otherwise a really fun zombie shooting game. I’d give it an 8 out of 10 overall.
Also, Majima is the luckiest son of a bitch on this planet.
For any SRK cats worried about Yakuza 5 being cancelled due to Sega’s announcement that won’t happen. I am pretty sure about that because it is a strong selling franchise and they created a whole studio based on the success of the series.
Yo Sarangha you still not gonna play Dead Souls, mate? It’s got everything you liked about the Yakuza games…except the combat is blowing up zombies and mosnters with bullets, bombs and stuff.
Oh I don’t think Yakuza 5’ll get canceled…I’m more worried it won’t get localized ;.;
SAVE US BASED NAGOSHI-SAMA!
Though Binary Domain was a good game the multiplayer left me feeling a little empty. I MIGHT play Dead Souls it looks like a fun distraction. Right now though I am gonna focus on Anarchy Reigns and Virtua Fighter 5 FS. If the MGS Rising game comes out this year I will jump on that as well. I am hoping Sega releases both Yakuza PSP games on PS3 kind of like they did with the MGS collection. That would be so hype!
Honestly that is a possibility. The potential for Yakuza 5 to be the best yet is really huge. They confirmed 5 Japanese cities which is mind boggling for a Yakuza game as well as redoing certain things ground up. I feel for veterans like us who have played all Yakuza games may get bored of certain minigames if they don’t mix it up in some way. So I hope that the team adds something new in that department, btw I just found out lil B played Yakuza 1 & 2. My mind is BLOWN. So based.
So I started playing this game this week, and although I was a bit unsure at first, it’s really growing on me. Just Started Goro Majima’s bit, and I’m enjoying it as much as I hoped so far. The ‘backhand’ bit mentioned earlier was unreal.
Now that I’ve gotten more used to the gunplay, I’m able to enjoy it much more, it really does retain a lot of the great stuff of previous Yakuza games, although I do still wish there was a bit more melee combat apart from just the kick/weapon usage (although I nearly shit myself when I saw that you can use the chainsaw from that Kakihara looking guy in Yakuza 4!).
I really can’t wait to hear more about Yakuza 5 now as well. Five cities? Holy Cow that’s going to be sensational! Just two cities in Yakuza 3 and the multi-levels in Yakuza 4 were gigantic playgrounds, five is going to be crazy. I really really hope that we can get Goro Majima as a playable character in a traditional Yakuza game too though, I can only imagine what kind of Heat Moves he would have (many involving his knife no doubt).
So apparently Yakuza DS sold around 550,000 units so far.
If we don’t get Yakuza 5 because of that…I’m a put the blame on a certain GIF-Namaste-avataring SRKer.
DS looks like a good game but the timing is bad. Most peeps ended up getting Binary Domain around that time because it was a shooter from the same team but a unique IP. Also I don’t think most people who are into Yakuza liked the Zombie scenario. Don’t get me wrong if someone gave it to me for free I would play it but I really wished they did an English port for Yakuza Kenzan instead. That being said I am sure they will release Yakuza 5 since all the main titles did well, not to mention the game having a big budget so they need all the sales they can get.

probably would’ve done better if it was released for PC?
It’s a non-cannon game filled with zombies, it is actually good but doesn’t attract everyone. I’m die hard Yakuza and I didn’t buy it. I’m pretty sure Yakuza 5 will do amazing in Japan and abroad.
