man nikishi went full on bitch made mod. Pretty much the sum of the game.
my ps4 sounded like it was gonna explode when i entered Stardust.
i cant get in, wtf is the MEB?
Got the steelbook version from Amazon yesterday, but didn’t play until today due to a migraine. Quick impressions from someone whose first Yakuza game was 0:
[] Graphics appear to look exactly the same as Y0. Am I right in assuming that Y0 is based on whatever engine they were using for Kiwami?
[] The skill trees work differently now. Instead of having a tree for each style, the trees are more generalized so that each unlock raises the power of one or more style at once. The only exception is the Dragon of Dojima style, which is its own tree, but you can’t unlock skills the normal way.
[] I like having access to all styles at once, but the tradeoff is that you get “Metroided” (i.e. de-powered) early on in the game. I like having immediate access to Rush, which was my favourite style from Y0.
[] I haven’t gotten far enough to fully experience the “Majima Everywhere” system, but I’m assuming it’s like the Mr. Shakedown fights where he would just appear at random spots.
[] The MesuKing game is ridiculous. Seems to be similar to the wrestling minigame in Y0, not sure if I might play this for long.
[] I didn’t really like using the R1 button in Y0, and I don’t like it in Kiwami. I think it should be a toggle rather than a hold.
How long should I expect this game to be? I spent about 60 hours in Y0, but a lot of that was me playing the various minigames.
Dont take this website as gospel, but it was accurate for my time with Yakuza 0.

Main campaign - 14 hr.
Main + side missions - 54 hr
The original Yakuza main campaign seems to be around 14 hrs;I guess the mini games/sidequests are more prominent in this version of the game?
Taunt, get that HEAT
"Hey I’m already the boss Real Estate Mogul like Viper! Yeah, fully powered up"
And you know Dangerous J did sidestep strike / komaki shot too.
3 full combos on 1st Majima 100% turned around = dang still no damage, saw a HEAT prompt but couldn’t get him. I forgot which game on PS2 had the one doing HEAT actions on me too, EXTRA modes in the Shangri-La, breaking the floor with his knife!
I know its for story & gameplay reasons but then only one guy didn’t go soft while in jail.
Yakuza 4
& 5?
spoiler
Majima’s bro
He also tested for the same reason
Batting Cage showdown, a classic locale for him
I bet that asshole would’ve asked for his 1500 dollars back as soon as you got back to town
Unlike Shinji, the bro, no worries man.
Cool how they fleshed him out with a back story and motivations in Y0 with the sidequest branch. You didn’t get all that from the jump back in 2005 on PS2, only seeing him as your driver with his purple shirt style, that he covers up 10 yrs later, urgency on him having to be serious no time for catching up.
Prob why 10 years did a big number on Nishiki’s face. But Shinji and Kiryu look the same, lol
What is this dude’s problem?! Inferiority complex? He wanna go back to the orphanage? Didn’t get enough attention from Kazama (Fuma)?
Mid life crisis rush to some ambition. Sold out.
Hostess club info spot, in other games before, no big deal.
It eventually could directly transport you to clubs from that store and save you 1000 yen off your entrance fee.
I tried to checkout the catfight spot entrance while holding the suitcase of money, its there but nobody to let you in yet, alas.
Y3 was the only game you can fight with holding the suitcase? Maybe even guard a gunshot holding it up & blocking with it.
Yea I got it, currently in purgatory. Main mission progression is slow AF, just too much fun with side missions at this point.
Oh shit Pocket Racer! My negro oh why o why? Finally beat the Champion Cup, this race is no joke. After many god damn failed attempts I have to seek the wisdom of the japanese database and they were all as equally fucked. No sure way but I have it sussed down to a best hope solution. For the sakes of lols i even took some shitty pics on how difficult this bullshit is with the optimal setup.
This is me after I got the best setup which itself is guaranteed to win 10% of the time, luck is a huge factor.
Yea thats 100th of a second. Fuck outta here son. Many racial slurs were cried against all pantheons of gods.
Heres the win.
Honour demanded I share this with the bros. Heres the setup.
45 point race, your using a 43 points on…
DRAG-ON
Ultra Spiked Tires
Ultra Speed Frame
Godspeed Motor
Ultra Regular Gears
High Speed Battery
Side Stabilizer 3.0
Heavy Suspension
Bumper Plate
Heres the strategy…
That arrow at the bottom next to 4 RAP (lol) thats where you hit your boost on the final lap. You will never be in first place at this point. If you have used any of your gauge at this point just restart. The area around A is where your saving for.
May this save you gents many frustrating hours. :nunchuck:
I have a question about experience points and upgrading your abilities.
In Y0, you used money earned to upgrade abilities. It seemed straightfoward.
But I guess that changed for Kiwami.
I have got EXP points only 2 times- once when fighting Majima and defeating him and 1 for beating a toll guy near the homeless park area (It was a substory)
After both, it says “you got 5000 exp points.”
When I go into the various categories to upgrade, it doesnt show any numerical values for EXP.
The abilities just show EXP x 1, EXP x 2 etc.
But how do I know how many points I have to upgrade?
Thanks.
The top left of your screen you have a green bar ontop of your health bar. Thats your experience bar, when it fills up you get an experience point.
The number located to the right of the bar indicates how many points you have to spend.
You accrue exp with every fight however in some special battles, completion of missions etc you will be given a lump exp reward, such as 10,000 or whatever.
Spending exp is pretty much the same as spending money from Y0, you need to fill out each concentric ring and buy the upgrade that allows you to get to the next ring. Each ring has a more expensive buy cost for the upgrade, 1xp for the nearest ring working out to 3xp, 10xp 50xp and finally 85xp for the outer most rings.
Early in the game, i found i was racking up a lot of xp due to side mission addiction, I bought all the cheap xp upgrades across the 3 available trees evenly and then focuses on the Body tree as I find thats most useful (after gaining some tech upgrades to fill out Brawler moveset).
Dragon tree is filled out by completing Majima Everywhere, and tbh I havent figured out fully how to find him in certain areas to unlocked the skills but ill keep you posted if i figure it out.
Goromi best Yakuza girl.
Sound effect added for great comical effect.
The first girl is a dumpster on fire though.
Was I supposed to go there as soon as the email said?
Or do I get tricked by Majima after completing her and going back to SHINE?
When you hear “KIRYU-CHAN” and then walk into someone who talks to you before they fight = Majima will jump in. I kept looking to the rooftops.
Showa street inbetween the Don Quijote and Poppo store
heard the KIRYU-CHAN call out only in one spot
The middle of the bikes.
but couldnt find him.
Went up 1 street to the mahjong and pawn shop one to see if it would proc again, but nothing.
Couldnt find him there.
Got 2 suprise behind a car in theater/alley between pawn shop and SEGA arcade.
Manhole and Trash can. Police is the funniest.
DEBOLAH HEAT action with the roof air conditioning or whatever, new! Throwing guy off the balcony there too, not new I think because you could do that on bridges don’t remember on that balcony, but still funny. Gonna check if both of those were even in the heat action total list, brought back, when it was missing for every game after 3, I think, but were hard to finish staples of Y1 and Y2, needing like one chance you could ever do it, say in Bantam/Bacchus specific conditions.
Yeah every level of EXP is just like 1000. You get extra with every special armor it seems like, extra for finishing enemies with HEAT actions was a staple too. Then you can really rack em up fighting Majima. Saw 444, spent it, then got up to 696 without thinking about it and accumulating a lot to spend now.
You can still block the fire damage hit of that Arena cage fight if you ever get knocked down. Haven’t seen -against the cage- heat actions like before though. You really don’t want the enemy to stand back up from the small damage, so you can HEAT stomp em but can’t in that fight’s ruleset.
Get that break thru guard one to get Majima a lot when he blocks your rush combos.
2 spots give you the Ramen back door casino entrance now, in case you screw up the dingy bar bimbo one. Don’t drink that!
New Pocket Racer parts in the back of the DVD shop in Chapter 8 before leaving with Date
Godspeed gears, 3 and 4 cost Slim tires, new balanced engine; Maybe sooner than Ch 8, I didn’t check back there until passerby talked about a new DVD, but they didn’t have that.
Still Komaki not letting you learn past the Cat picture… Still waiting for more from him.
When do you gain heat while using Dragon of Dojima style?
EDIT: Another question: there’s a guy in front of a vending machine on Tenkaichi Street that complains about the machine not taking his 2000 yen bill. I think this is a sidequest…how do I trigger it?
Took quite a while. I think somewhere around D rank of Majima Everywhere is when I finally was able to get heat in Dragon style. Even then, the style is STILL ass at that point. I’m nearly B rank I think in chapter 8 and it’s still not worth using.
Vincent Billiards and Darts bar.
You can only pick up one at a time and go back to him to turn it in before you can find the next 2000 yen bill also.
Dragon style still has classic: ‘Grab, Heat throw onto someone on the ground’ and ‘knocked off your feet Triangle counter,’ SFAlpha Sodom crazy crap style. Even if they aren’t listed.
You don’t get your 30% Survival heal after winning the final, 3rd match in Arena Tournament, so don’t go right back into another match without healing if necessary, like if you just want to finish them up easy enough and are in a hurry, some enemies seem to have big health pools in there just the same, still should go in max health to minimize risk.
And this one I found out after Komaki Training being stuck in Dragon style and vs HANNYA-MAN he does Essence glow awaiting his finisher in RED and you don’t even have it yet whatever it is… instead of using that time to wail on someone to fight off the health gain, build your heat, or taunt or whatever with the time
Just use a weapon HEAT on them to halt that in its tracks.
Not sure if you can do it there, let you equip a weapon under those rules needed to complete them might call for being unarmed, but it will also help real early when everyone would be doing the colors you didn’t have yet.
