Sega Saturn ram cart question

I got a Saturn question. I’ve always wondered what the opening of the Japanese Saturn looked like … by opening, I mean when you boot on the machine, and the little silver pieces all form together to make the Saturn logo … is it different on the Japanese machine or the same?

Beat me to it, Random. I was going to recommend the STKey, too. It does require swapping at the sega logo, but out of VS, XMvSF, MSH, MSHvSF and Pocket Fighter, I never had a single problem with it. For the record, turning on 1mb support in MSH doesn’t have any noticeable effect on gameplay (at least that I could tell), and it does get laggy at points…but still a great classic.

Any idea where I can purchase an ST Key? Just ordered a copy of Dragon Force and want to have the ram cart ready.

Do you have a link to details on this? I was wondering why I couldn’t use mine with Dragon Force :\

It comes in the same, but when they form together the logo is different.
If you’ve ever seen the “Sega Saturn” logo on a Jpn game package, it looks like that. Not the blue ball with the S like the US versions.

Alright bought Dragon Force today, now I’m bidding on Castlevania SotN for saturn, does it require the ram cart? I’m also working on getting the Xmen vs Street Fighter boxset or just the game if I can. Also is Princess Crown important friendly? Action/rpg with fighting game style battles sounds too good.

As someone else stated, the logo is slightly different, but the audio you hear when the silver shards are forming together is completely different. Doesn’t sound like Peter-Pan nonsense, sounds much cooler.
Beyond that, all the menus & interfaces are the same.

Certainly!

This problem doesn’t affect all cartridges though apparently, so don’t shoot me if it doesn’t work! I’d did affect mine bought from Play Asia about 6 months ago however, so there’s clearly loads of old stock floating around.

Good shit, thanks… Now can play my Mshvssf.

Nice rippoff right there.

Honestly, Symphoney of the Night is sooooo much better on the PS1. I have the Saturn version and yeah, the extra areas are cool, so is Maria, but they just aren’t cool enough to out weigh the negatives which include:

  1. Screwed up graphics. Basically, it’s the Playstation version except that ALL the pretty transparency effects are butchered, and though this may sound minor, it’s a very huge eye-sore that detracts from the game alot.
  2. TONS of slowdown. Just gobs of it. Almost unplayable in parts.

Pointless getting the ram package if your using an import ram cart. Wouldn’t waste your money.

@ParryAll

You speak the truth. Castlevania: SotN, PS >>>> Saturn.

Also, I have a modded Action Replay 4M+ cart, and it works with every game I own. MSHvSF, Vampire Savior, etc… BAsically, every Capcom fighter that needs the extra 4mb.

Heres a heads up for anyone looking for Dragon Force, Buy it now 39.99, brand new disc only in sleeve. Pretty hot deal if just want to play the game.

Edit: Woops, guess I’m not supposed to link to active auctions. I’m personally not linked to that auction in any way but I just spent $95 getting a copy of Dragon Force, wanted to give others a heads up. Sorry for the mishap.

I have a question, for a game that requires a 1MB RAM Cart, can you use a 4MB RAM Cart instead?

In most cases you can, but there are a few stubborn games out there that will only work with the 1MB cart; one is Samurai Spirits: Amakusa Kourin/SSIV, a game that should have (IMO anyway) used all of the capacity of the 4MB cart, but won’t even work with it in 1MB mode!

Yeah, stick with the PS version so SotN. The Saturn version may include Maria and a few other areas. While Maria might be fun, it’s not worth playing through the extra areas, which are’nt really even worth the time, they just don’t seem all too interesting.

I’m having a problem with my cart that I’m hoping someone knows how to fix. I just bought X-Men vs. Street Fighter and a 4MB Action Replay Plus for my Saturn. When I try to play it, the game loads up seemingly fine, showing the Capcom logo screen, the High scores, the intro, etc. But when I press start to go to the title screen/menu, the game resets to the CD error screen. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found out the problem. The store I bought it from put the 1MB Ram Action Replay in the 4MB Ram Action Replay box. Gosh Darnit.

Lol, after like 7 years my 4 in 1 cart has died on me. It still converts, but the 4m and 1m games don’t work. I guess it’s back to swapping out carts ALA 1997 all over again

For the dude that asked, Dragon Force isn’t a 1m or 4m game. You just need the backup ram cart, which is basically a cartridge Memory Card with a ton of space.

Either that or DF will take up you’re entire Saturn harddrive.

maybe i should try out the ps version of SOTN, but i’ve only played the saturn version and maria is cool. you can control the black dragon dealing a ton of damage. And blah there was slow down? didn’t notice it. oh well you played both versions, wot could i say.
