Sega Saturn ram cart question

Just won this saturn package on Ebay. Is that memory card a ram cart as well? I can’t tell. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOIBSAA:US:11&Item=6977843621

Probably going to buy a copy of SFA2 tonight as well.

I don’t want to put you down but, I was just gona post, you’re better off getting a japanese machine. Those import carts are prety unreliable and only play a selection of games iirc. It’s better off knowing your going to be able to play a game instead of not knowing. But I guess it’s too late now.

No that just looks like a normal memory card.

The sega saturn has a 2mb internal memory of ram. To run xmvsf etc. it requires an expansion twice the size of the machines default memory. Just shows how powerful xmvsf really is.

Oh alright, I’ll end up buying a white saturn for imports anyways, they just look too clean.

More must haves, or at the very least, good to haves:

Legend of Oasis- (prequel to Beyond Oasis for Genesis, action RPG)
Japanese Fighting Vipers has Pepsiman (ah memories of his theme)
X-Men CotA (screw the haters, fun game)
Baku Baku Animal (falling/matching puzzler)
Astal (side scroller)
Three Dirty Dwarves (side scroller)

Obviously you’ll be able to play imports with that cart, but I’ve heard a few negative reviews about all of them. I’m not saying it wont work with whatever, but if it’s arcade style games you want, then the majority of your collection will be japanese. Mine is. Like parry all said it’s so much nicer. I even like the little cases better than the stupid skips the us and eu get. Plus full colour booklets.

I bought my us saturn with it switched but the us side of the switch is fucked. Lucky really the japanese still works or I’ld be screwed.

I also got vs box set, but the cart with that doesn’t work. Good job I bought xmvsf box set 2 weeks earlier. I haven’t even touched zero 3’s cart it’s in such good condition, so fresh, but my disc it taking some hits. Shame really, so be sure to look well after your stuff when you get imoprting or it will become worthless.

Forget all those carts, this is the only one you’ll need:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-1v-70-1b2.html

Works for ALL 4m and 1m games, and it has battery backup and cheats.

I’ve used this cart for probably going on 7 years and no problems.

I used to have a saturn just for Legend of Oasis but the system broke after a few weeks. That is my favorite action/rpg, I’ll definately have to check Three Dirty Dwarves. I’ll order that RAM cart from play-asia, have always had good experiences with them.

Astal is the shit.

Someone on ebay is trying to sell Saturn Dracula X for $200. I paid $10 for mine from an EB (remember back in 98/99 when they sold import Saturn games?); I wonder if I should put mine up on evil-bay and see what I can con, er get for it…

If you have plenty of friends, get a bunch of controllers and the multiplayer tap for

Guardian Heroes- nuff said.

Saturn Bomberman- With 2 multitaps you can have up to 10 people. Over 6 people the play is limited to the classic screen only and its kinda tough to see your guy.

Death Tank & Death Tank Zwei- Hidden games in Powerstone and Duke Nukem. I’ve only played DTZ on Duke. Hidden catch, you need a Quake game save file on your system.

2-7 players but I recommend you play with at least 4. Most fun you will have in your life. :encore:

Its a memory cart. Congrats on the win… Say,wanna sell me one of those virtua fighter remix’s?

3 Dirty dwarves, Mr. Bones and Bug Too are money!!! Get skeleton warriors while you are at it too, hehe.

Yeah if I get 2 just pay shipping, lol.

This is a pretty decent game, and it’s not really expensive at all - I got a copy from ebay for about 15, and I saw copies is a couple of shops in Akihabara (where they know the prices of games pretty well :stuck_out_tongue: ) for 1500 yen.

It’s spelled Soukyugurentai (there’s sometimes a space before the G if you can’t find it) if you fancy picking it up, although it’s not one of Raizing’s best shooters IMO.

Anyone played shilouette mirage by treasure? I’ve been wanting to pick that up for a while, just never known what it’s like.

Deal.

I’ve played Silhouette Mirage on my friends PS copy, and then I bought it for my Japanese Saturn, it’s a pretty cool game.

It’s what you’d expect from a Treasure platformer, cool, some form of innovation, and just pretty fun. It’s got a red/blue thing that’s kind of like Ikaruga’s white/black thing, if you know what I mean.

Ignore this guy because he has no idea what he’s talking about.

If it’s an import cart you’ll need either an ST key (or similar device) or one of the 2-n-1 keys/4mB carts.

Personaly I don’t like the idea of using them. Plus I heard they’re unreliable, but people have said now they work so thats fine.

I use an Action Replay 4Mb cart to play imports. Amazingly, most of them don’t actually work as 4Mb cartridges unless you mod them! It’s a pretty simple job though, just a matter of cutting a large trace and soldering a couple of large points. Plus they’re still very easy to get hold of, which is probably your main concern for Saturn stuff these days.
