Sega owns Guilty Gear: Interview with Arc System Works

Guilty Gear gets it’s own hoverboard racing spinoff

onos a huge douche

sega probably dont intend to do anything with gg

GGPO isn’t perfect; and is still far from suiting what Arc were just talking about in the interview.

Amazing interview though, they hit so many right notes there. I’m glad they’re still really considering depth and not selling out for the casual audience by making their games easy throughout.

It’s a shame about GG, but I believe something will be done about it. If not, hopefully Ishiwatari-san will step up and create another masterpiece.

Quick question for you guys. If Capcom ever decided to do a Cross-Over fighting game with Sega, basically a .VS game, could Capcom use the Guilty Gear characters?

On the topic of Sega and GG, quit crying like little girls. Sega dosen’t have many popular games left. GG is still decently popular, so I am sure they would be willing to work with Arc Systems in creating a sequel. It’s all about that money.

I remember when Sangoku Basara X was thought to be CapcomXArksys. That would have been pretty damn dope.

If ArcSys was not involved in slash and AC than maybe who was is competent enough to continue the series? If not than AC is a good enough game to last for years like 3S.

I disagree, in theory its as close to perfection as possible.

How exactly do fighting games “sell out to a casual audience”? I mean these guys aren’t fucking rockstars, they make videogames for consumer consumption. They should make their games easier throughout, and despite what was said BlazBlue proves that they tried.

A) As close as possible? Meaning it isn’t actually perfection is it? Exactly, I never said otherwise, neither did Arc. I was also including the fact that it would be impossible to recreate the face-to-face arcade and socialistic experience they were talking about; and it will still be nigh impossible to re-create that perfectly fair situation. And don’t forget that when it comes to GGPO and lag, you’re forgetting what it’s like to play people from other countries. Either way, GGPO does not meet the specifications they were talking about.

B) Learn 2 analyse. ‘Easier throughout’ means that…it’s easier throughout. Aka, there is very little depth, and all is catered for the casual audience rather than both the casual and the core audience. With BB Arc catered for both; it’s not massively in depth yet because this is the very first entry of the series. Depth is a progressive thing; throwing it all into your first game will cause a mess (imbalance; unacessibility; a very early ‘wall’ and you’re ultimately left with an overly ambitious product that could have been good if it was executed right…and we know many games have fallen down that root).

And if you want an example of selling out to a casual audience, take a look at DOA4.

it was ARCSYS duh

did I misunderstand this then?

When the sun goes down, Sol can’t do Air Dust.

The article is dates January 13th 2009

I think when he said they were “directly involved” with the series I figured he meant that with everything besides development

because Aksys did both Slash and Accent Core

lol I assure you that I’m not. As for your talk about depth, I don’t get it at all. Its not possible for a developer to know how his game fares at a high level until people play it for a while. Emergent complexity if you will. So how can a designer tier depth such that a casual player enjoys the game and a “hardcore” player is also challenged? I’m guessing the answer here is execution tricks like 1 frame FRCs and the like. All of which are absolutely ridiculous and deserve to never be seen in another game again.

So since any such depth is artificial, why have it in the first place. Make everything easy. DOA4 suffers because of the opposite. Cookieface put a bunch of shit in that would not allow the game to develop at all. He restricted complexity in the name of depth.

Correct me if I misunderstood you.

Well this sucks. Look at how SEGA handles VF outside of Japan and you can pretty much see that’s what’s going to happen GG.

We still have BlazeBlue tho’

I’m lovin this interview. Arc Systems is speakin the truth about fighters. Unlike some people… I’m lookin at you Namco!

A good update to AC would be, but AC as it is… maybe not so much :arazz:

Cool interview, sucks to hear that GG might get the Sonic treatment (Dust Strikers and Judgment have me wary about where the franchise might go). Oh wells, got dat BlahBloo.

I’m hoping Arcsys doesn’t stick to Overture style games. Make a FG out of the cast or something, if that’s not gonna step on too many toes that is.

Arc’s take on SF4 is spot-on, and the ‘Ono’s word is bond’ attitude on the Internet has gotten annoying.

Now…rubs hands together…let’s get us some HNK vs GG.
