Trailer for X-23 Assist Me Series for the probably 2 people that haven’t seen it yet.

Looking good so far. Not just the girl obviously but good looking she is. Looking forward to my small shout in super fine print. LOL.
Long as this gets more people interested and see the light in X-23 I’m all gravy for this one. I’m kinda worried about what Max was able to put in so that it was enough for a basic player to get a grasp of her while still explaining that she’s a rather technical character and getting just enough into the advanced stuff so people understand more to her than ABCS BBCS super. She doesn’t necessarily have just one thing she can always do that will guarantee something good instantly like Wolverine. Hopefully I gave him enough of what she has that is basic and advanced that someone new to her or someone trying to get more of a hold of her can get what they want. I’m sure he found a way. She has way too much advanced stuff to get into where it would be easy to bore someone who just wants to watch the video and learn enough to get out there and going but hopefully enough is there so people know she has a lot to her.
Hey Max, do you know when “Assist Me!” will be up? I’m a big fan of your vids and I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE MORE!
Deviljin, I think your vids are awesome too, and I just find myself comming back for more. The way you explain all the little tricks and strategies that Laura has, in great detail is just awesome! I also feel like Laura has a lot of tools that are being slept on. Hopefully these Assist Me X-23 vids, help people see the light, and make people realize that you do NOT want to mess with this girl. Good shit to both of ya’ll.
Thx. Always good to hear that the tutorial is working for people. For now I’ll just be putting up some match vids between my bro and then when I get around to it add a few more things to round up basics revolving her gameplay. After that probably get into like specific matchups and dealing with different assists.
Episode is finally up. Thanks so much for the help so far from the folks in this thread, especially DevilJin. Propper props will be given during the in-footage credits @ the end.
I believe X-23 to be a great movement character as stated before. But, I noticed from the first video you didn’t add in some facts about X-23’s Mirage feint. Mirage feint is a great tool to dodge some projectiles that hit mid. That includes Dr.Doom, Magneto, Wesker Standing… (But easily crouched), Taskmaster Low,Mid Aim of Hawkeye. (MID range dependant). So you can wavedash Mirage Feint wait cancel dash as an added effect to your wavedashing. People who love approaching in the air also have trouble with dealing with her mirage feint , because of how fast it moves you on the ground. So you can bait and move back in with a good assist to cover there whiff. With Projectile Assists or some close in assist. X-23 can sort of run a guess. Where the opponent can block and get grabbed or the assist hits first while they try to whiff to help her mixup game. Can also be done with her command grab from across screen. Also, Mirage Feint can be used to whiff moves on block and add more to her combo game. Mirage Feint M crosses over in the corner and looks similar to Mirage L. So, going between the different versions of the move is great.
X-23’s low assist can be used at a certain distance to break mid projectile pressure game and start combos in some situations. Since again she gets low and goes under many mid projectiles. It’s just the start up is the problem. So it’s more of a read then anything. Ankle slice can be used in a similar matter to her Mirage Fient to dodge and get in with a attack at the same time. Since the charge for the command, neck slice, ankles look the same. You get them to guessing which one. Neck slice is great for the antiair as noted if spaced correctly, Ankle as a low, Decapitating Slice as an meaty grab.
Lastly, even though it’s not used a lot. X-23’s Silent Kill is a nomination for DHC, even though it takes up 3 bars. But, you can combo into Silent kill using the mirage fients L, and H. I haven’t found a way to use to M yet. But, I’m sure that can be done with a long duration move or something.
arvelous I think what you’re trying to say is that you can use the holding function of her feints to duck under projectiles then release it later to get around them? If so that’s a pretty cool idea and something I didn’t consider myself initially. I didn’t think of it’s ability to shorten her hit box like that. I’ll try it out and see. Her ankle slice and c.H make her small enough to pass under beams as well but they’re kinda risky to apply. It would probably be a little hard for me to implement specifically because holding on to S while playing X23 kills your ability to do that with any sort of consistency without letting go of S and then pushing it again during the feint so you can safely go back to feint cancelling safely. I have to do this during her combos any way though so I’ll see.
BTW it’s definitely more than obvious but the first video of the series is available to watch in the news articles on the top of the page. Really well done and the split up of the video should be just enough to get in the majority of her basic and advanced tools without getting too crazy or elongated. Laura really has something bothering her. LOL. Great endorsement for Yoplait BTW.
The opening episode was actually 5 minutes longer initially, I actually had to cut several in-game segments simply because it was running too long. The show ratio of in-game info/footage to real life parody is around 2/3. It was just too heavy and the episode was nearly 26 minutes long in total. So, I tried to focus down on the more important elements and try to get the right information out there to non X-23 players especially.
DevilJin’s information provided was extremely detailed and exactly what was needed for the show. But the challenge is trying to pull off a production of this kind while demonstrating a character that I’m not entirely familiar with. But, as I’ve been keeping up with you all on this board and playing more X-23 for the purpose of the show, I’m actually feeling more and more comfortable using her.
To me, this episode is really a testament to the community effort that brought all this information together (you guys). It’s my first chance working on a collaboration project of this kind, and this board has been extremely helpful and willing.
I definitely thought it was really well done. I honestly was scared for you because even her basic special moves have a lot of different ways to be applied especially when you include things like her wall jump which both the strategy guide and the SRK hyper guide failed to note as one of her moves. It’s very easy to just start talking about her basic special moves and have an average player just go “you know what…I heard wolverine and wesker were good too”. The main thing I think that most average X-23 players didn’t understand is that even more so than Wolverine you have to be comfortable with using assists and quick ground dash to allow her to approach and mix up in different ways. With Wolverine you can pretty much just do one special move plus an assist anywhere on the screen and guarantee something good will happen against an average player but with X-23 it requires a bit more planning. What I think people will see now is that wen you actually spend the time to put assists together with her those strange mirage feint and command grab moves become a lot scarier.
I noticed one guy mentioned in the comments section that he thought it was strange that you were explaining a character that you didn’t main. Which I don’t think is really a big deal because even in the first video you explained basic strats that most tournament level X-23’s to this day aren’t doing. Which is great because it gives newer and more veteran players alike access to a new set of tools for the character that they wouldn’t otherwise know about even from watching the big tourney X-23’s. Tatsu and Meep are the only ones that have really even put together any of the stuff you’ve mentioned in the first video in tournament regularly with success. It’s good to see that all X-23 players will have no excuse for not using these tools. This is considering you don’t even main X-23. This video series will definitely get a lot more people interested in X-23 that my tutorial videos definitely would not have reached at all.
I didn’t really think about doing any like big time HD video or anything like that because I just wanted something for people that walked into SRK and wanted to learn X-23 to have something to go with. I pretty much only picked up the character because one of my friends who used her thought she was terrible (and of course didn’t really actually know anything about the character) and had nothing to her so I pretty much took up the challenge to figure out how good/bad she really was. I saw the DHC glitch becoming popular also and heard she could use it after getting blown up by my friend who was using it and then it just went from there. Your assist me series definitely gives a higher level of understanding of X-23 out to a number of people that I would have never imagined would end up seeing in this short frame of time. Especially in a way that can be entertaining even for people who are just getting started or don’t even really play the character or game. The storyline adds a lot of charm and keeps things interesting thorughout so you can learn without feeling like you’re just learning.
As I explained although I like technical characters I’m not much of a combo guy and just like to stick with the more basic stuff unless it specifically adds to the character’s offense so hopefully you were able to get that rounded out by the other X-23 players.
If I had known you could do something like this for X-23 I would have asked you a long time ago to help. I’m glad you came around and let us help you get the word out on Laura. Thanks very very much for your support and I hope you end up liking to play X-23 as much as I do.
PS: I also like that you used my team in the video. LOL. X-23 loves Doom. Well…maybe not love.
Yeah 10 Stars innovated the use of the dirt nap plus dante assist to create really cheap unblockables with Dante into level 1/2 XF kills which leaves her room to kill the next person on a mix up afterwards. He doesn’t really use quite as much of the movement tools as some of the other X23’s but I’d like to see what he’s like when he gets more of her movement and execution together. He’s already doing well just with the basics and dirt nap kills. He definitely is the most combo intensive X23 and the only one popular one in high level tourney play that actually goes for the H mirage feint and jump loops. Something I don’t even do yet. My approach is more MFC based so the normals I use tend to use up the hit stun required for long jump loops any way.
Any way…general shouts to MoFro, Easier To Run, Sakeido, Ryuga (we always play similar characters in everything any way), Faith From Hell, Eternal Blaze, 10 Stars , Burn Silver, Spoonz and anyone else I missed that is or has frequented the forums before and since I started checking out this forum myself. The little things you guys brought up kept me interested in the character before I even actually decided to play her and now that I am playing her and finding a lot more about her game it’s good to share with you guys what I know and what you all know. I remember a time when people were literally just like “this character is lame you gotta use assists to do everything with her” and now we can see a much more interesting play style out of her that will hopefully we’ll see more often at tournaments and on streams soon.
Yeah I totally agree DevilJin, you guys keep me going and interested!
To anyone disappointed in the combo footage Maximilian put together, first, shame on you he did a great job! Second, I’m contributing HD footage for Part 2 with some of the harder stuff in it. Of course it’s up to Maximilian to decide what makes the cut and what doesn’t, but hopefully there will be some more advanced subject material in it!
I’m really sorry, I’ve been quite busy, so I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet haha.
Shoutouts to everyone on this forum as well! I remember when I was pretty much down in the dumps with this character, and then Deviljin, 10stars and the rest of you guys started coming up with new stuff and that inspired me to keep using X-23. This is actually my favourite character section LOL, I love the way you X-23 players break down and share everything.
And thanks to Maximilian! I really hope your vid’s popular and I really hope it inspires people to pick this character up.
Also huge congratulations to Maximilian for becoming a Machinima Respawn Director and Machinima Network Member! See, good things happen to those who respect X-23!
I just saw the video and it was AWESOME!! I always like the way Max crosses the line between comedy, and straight up character content. It is interesting and entertaining BOTH AT THE SAME TIME! This is not an easy thing to do and it’s just something that Max does so well. Even I’m interested in using X-23, as she seems to have a lot of tools to make her one of the most scariest characters in the game.
As a Guilty Gear fan, it appears X-23 seems to be like a cross between Jam Kudoberi and a little bit of Ibuki (I guess?) in terms and terms of speed and movement, and even some other stuff. But what I really like about Laura so far, is not that she reminds me of those characters, but she has so many options, that kind of parallel what other characters in the game have, and hell even the GAME in general! I mean, you might look at the character select screen or spend some time in the lab, and you’re like “I don’t like this character or that”, but once you put in work with the characters you’re like “Oh I didn’t know that, cool!” I mean even some of the characters that people thought were going to be AWFUL, like Ryu, you have people ChrisG putting in work and creating ACTUAL team synergy, and creating some unique stuff. In a way it’s almost like X-23 is kind of bridging the gap, or at least to some extent creating a kind of parallel between her and the game in general. It’s like saying “Hey don’t sleep, these characters and teams can be really good if you find the right assist and have a gameplan”. It’s really moments like this that seems to make the game interesting. Finding ways of putting this and that together, building a team and finding out that there are so many ways of going about it. I just can’t help but feel that Laura is pointing all these things out to us, the more people play her in some strange way.
Sorry for the long post but I just finished watching the video, and as I watched it all these thoughts just popped into my head for some strange reason. Don’t know why! LOL!
Shoutouts to Max and all the X-23 players out there, and shoutouts to all the Guilty Gear players holding it down in Marvel 3. Let’s GO!
Probably wouldn’t have played MvC3 if it weren’t for X-23 being in it. People talk about changing their teams post-EVO and even if I do, it’ll still include X-23. I really like how doom assist works with her, but the only thing I dislike about Doom is the DHC compatibility. It’s not as great as her DHC compatibility with Hulk due to getting the DHC glitch into Gamma Quake and (unpredictably) Gamma Crush after a WXP.
