With the terrible situation at hand, a lot of people’s confidence of our scene has been shaken. I can’t solve all the problems, and we can’t ever replace Zach’s trust…but I can do my best to try and keep tournaments going
I’m trying to have the venue in either Seattle or Kirkland. If anyone knows things about venues post up, I’m definitely shopping around. I’ve found one near my house that is just about perfect.
With that, I WILL be holding a cover charge for the venue (in order to pay for the venue cost). To enter tournaments will be an extra fee. As I said, the plan is in it’s infancy, and I still need to figure out more, but let it be known…
We don’t need to lose our tournament scene because of this terrible incident.
I’ve talked to the folks at Canoe Social Club in the ID (5th and Jackson) about hosting an event, and they are totally game. place has a bar, two projectors for spectating and a metric fuck ton of space.
we would have to provide the setups for gaming, and staff to work the event (door, crowd control, ect.) bartender is included.
also my friend Anne who curates the gallery there has asked me about doing a good vs. evil show showcasing, well, good vs. evil art as it applied to the nerd core scene. particularly fighting games. with a fighting game “demo” for the opening.
I know I’m new, but I’d be totally down to help make this happen.

I need to hammer out the details, but the feeling I got was, house takes the door plus whatever the bar brings in. no cost for the venue itself. though that may have been a favor they were willing to extend to me since I’m kinda really close to the people that run the place.
also this is a private club so all ages is welcome but we would have to police the fuck outta the youngins. if stupid shit went down with kids and booze not only would I jeopardize a really sweet up and coming arts venue. I’d piss off some really close friends.
True. Some place public would be pretty great. Good shit on planning this Mike. I’ll have a few things left of from Northwest Majors that would probably help out with running stuff for these when it gets going. Not to much, but some stuff like a ton of clipboards, and the money box donated by Paulee. They are really just community equipment for whoever needs them.
The Canoe Social Club seems like a pretty good venue. The only thing is being able to get enough tvs, tables, chairs and systems to run the tournament. I was considering Gameclucks because they already have TVs, systems, chairs and tables. But honestly everyone can’t make it to Lynnwood especially early and especially if you live in kent or Federal Way. I would just consider Gameclucks to be a temporary tournament spot so we have a place to go until a new venue gets up and running.
Also, even though I don’t play, this new venue NEEDS to have marvel. It wont be the same if we don’t have it.
I dunno, 360 seems like an ideal system considering everyone and their mom has a 360 stick. But 6pm would be cool if they can changed it compared to the noon start they used to have
I’m going to have to say real quick that a lot of the things said here, are exactly why I didn’t want to tell everyone that I was doing this.
I understand the want to help, and I understand that it’s all in good intention, but I need for people to realize that this is not “Hey guys lets hear your going to make the scene better.” This isn’t an open invite for people to make “demands” as to what they need, and it by far isn’t a suggestion box for how I’m going to do things.
I made this thread in order to say that the status of our tournament scene is in jeopardy, however I’m trying to do something about it. And with that, please allow me to take things into my OWN hand. I personally have a good eye as to what people in the community want, and I don’t want things to get in the wrong direction…
Bar fights, gameclucks, setups, what people “need” for their events…I don’t want to see talk about this kinda stuff as I have things personally under control…I have let a few people close to me know that I’m doing this before the general NW public knew, and I have people behind me.
If your willing to help, thank you, but I don’t want to hear micro management. This is SeattleVersus tournaments, not some bar fights that you guys want to get casual at.
2ND EDIT: All in all, fella’s GET HYPE! We’re going to be having real venues for tournaments! No one’s house will be in danger any more!
