Like I said Digi and Keits, do what you feel is best. I think there will be complainers either way and personally don’t have enough conviction to argue the ban, because I myself have found Algol to be easy to deal with (with my character).
My motivation was merely in trying to make the game look better for it’s first big tourney, as I think quite a few algols will be in finals (i hope im wrong). There are compelling arguments on both sides of the ban table, the question is- which decision is best for the community, right now. If you think him being legal is, then more power to ya.
I think it would be best, at the game’s young age, to allow him and to watch you beat him so people lose the ‘unbeatable’ argument (if anyone is even bothering to use it). Plus, your game has already gotten one patch… who is to say another isnt coming and that it wont change the need for this decision? Why make it in the first place, then?
But, if you know me at all, you know that I think banning anything without really solid tournament proof is a terrible idea. I’m still not happy that most SC4 events have disallowed the bonus characters. So silly It undermines the idea of being a competitive gamer, imo. You can’t just remove stuff because you dont* like *it. Well, you CAN, but that just keep you from ever truly being competitive. Choosing not to deal with something is never the answer.
And of course, this isnt directed at you ChaCha. I appreciate your stance on the matter.
I was against algol being banned when the game was new but I get it now why he should be.
Keits… no just no, having him doesn’t help the game. He really is unbeatable by certain characters, and it has nothing to do with skill levels. Also you’re giving the game too much credit, like it’s going to take months and months to explore the depth of the game lol.
I know it’s too much to ask on SRK, but the obvious sarcastic remarks make people trying to make cute comments, look really stupid. Just an fyi.
I wouldn’t even suggest banning a character if it wasn’t an acceptable risk. The character in question completely breaks the games engine (if you want to be point blank about it). You simply cannot play normally against him, why should a player be forced to completely abandon their style, movement, character and skill set, to simply deal with something that hasn’t existed in ALL prior incarnations of the game?
If 3rd Strike has a character that prevented jumping, while he could jump and had air fire balls, would you accept him in tournament play? I MEAN HE WINZ TOURNAMENTZ THAT WAY LOLZ! AJUST AMIRITE? lulz!
Yea, we can all make really stupid comments, bottom line is, if you dont know what the fuck you are talking about, stay out the conversation.
The “depth of the game” absolutely needs to be explored. When he’s the only character that’s played EVER then you can ban him. Until then, maybe the players should just stop being lazy, get better with other/better characters other than their fanboy favorites and turn their tears into lemonade. I can remember very few fighting games that stopped progressing with the people playing it, so either get better or stop playing. If after a few major tourneys he’s winning them all and is in every final, then consider banning him. But, as Josh The Funk Doc stated, an Algol player played someone else and still won. That sounds more like skill to me than playing the “broken” character.
Adjusting a strategy to beat a specific character? That’s some groundbreaking shit!! Who would ever want to do that? (How’s my sarcasm?) If you’re only going to learn one strategy with one character, maybe you should stay at home and send your money VIA Western Union, because that’s just stupid. But, I could be wrong.
He’s just everything you don’t want in a 3D fighting game. He has Projectiles that take away ability to sidestep, crouch and dash, all while he is free to move, has an incredibly good and safe long range BB, decent damage and is very strong in every aspect of the engine. He makes it amazingly hard (perhaps boring or tedious is another way of putting it) for 75% of the cast to even get close enough to attack or be effective the way they are designed to be.
While it is possible for any character to beat him, by standing around and Gi-ing his bubbles and waiting for the Algol player to dash in and make a mistake, the point is they have no CHOICE in the matter. About 60% of the cast has no move that can go over or under the bubbles without easily being punished by the Algol safely waiting beyond them. H ehas really good range and can out space 80% of the cast.
Nothing he has is unbeatable (or broken cept a few infinites…>.>) . But it’s boring, stagnant gameplay that wastes everyone’s time, makes the game look stupid as hell and is overall (imo) going to kill the enjoyment and competitive spirit of the game.
Mind you, I am painting an EXTREME portrait for you here. I previously stated I have my strats for beating Algol. The question is will that stop everyone from whinning? Degenerate game play and kill interest for the tourney scene? SB3 is a big deal, we should treat this issue as such. I’m interested to see what everyone thinks.
I don’t like playing against Magneto/Storm/Psyloch because it’s not easy. I’m pretty sure I’d look like a big baby if I complained that the team shouldn’t be allowed. They should absolutely be allowed. You think everyone like playing against Chun-Li, Ken and Yun in 3S? They’re good, so people play them.
I see your point, I do. And, after a few more tournaments at high level play, it might become apparent he should be banned, but right now it’s necessary for the games advancement and the game’s players.
Like I said. I’m just putting the facts out there. If he’s not banned now, no skin off my back. I just think his presence will do more harm than good to the scene at this point, and that will be my stance until convinced otherwise during high level match play.
I’m not gonna babysit the topic anymore, everyone has my opinions and can formulate their own on what is prudent and when it will be prudent.
I respect both sided of this debate however I gave Digi control over the decision in this matter. I was under the impression that the majority of the community wanted him banned and you all know I want to please the majority because we all know we cant please them all. The fairest option is to vote it out here or the day of and Digi can make a final decision.
