Season Two seeds/results/general ish thread

WTF, Mo was there? I didn’t see him the entire night.

Good job to Axel for comming back from his hermit shack in the rural Kent mountains to beast upon Nate’s face, and also good games to Mandel and Itazan, I was trying hella hard and went two and out with the quickness!

i think i need to actually sit down and learn what guile should do against other characters…that seems to be the only issue for me right now.

Glad i can got ppl to gasp and ooh and aww for a game that i know i’m horrible at. Oh i’m talking about ST here too not just marvel.

In regards to the whole waiting thing, i know that i kinda made myself a hypocrit*sp? last night. And i want to appologize to all the pdx ppl and those that were there to play CvS2. I did an awful job last night, and had to let SamY take over. Stressful day at work, working too much for that matter (they wanted me to come in today too, on my only day off on top of that) and just not getting things set up as soon as i got there really bit me in the ass once things got going (i had a Marvel match, a ST match, and had to go to poker and i didn’t even start up CvS2 yet) So again my deepest appologizes to the CvS2 heads and the pdx guys. I will try my best to do a better job next time.

(yeah i know this doesn’t really sound like the Frankdadank you guys see on here, or at Zach’s…i’m not an asshole all the time.)

Now in regards to CvS2…since it seems that we are having more ppl sign up. How does everyone feel about making winners 2 out of 3, then losers a single match? Time is becoming more and more of an issue here. Especially since we have all the other games going on. I’d like to hear feedback on that before the next tourney so I can try to set something in stone, instead of randomly asking around the day of the tournament.

Also there was an issue concerning sticks. I know we have 2 PS2 sticks at our house (a beat down tekken 5 stick…too much xbox live cvs2. and the SvC chaos one that is seans) Does anyone else have a PS2 stick that we could use just for the CvS2 tournaments? I know a lot of ppl use their sticks for other games as well, so if we could at least have 2 just for CvS2 that would help smooth things out tremendously. I know there’s the issue of not having a lot of MAS sticks for PS2 also… I might try to see if i will go buy one to solve that problem. Start posting and let me know!

I think a second setup would help a lot here. Single match was kinda weak.

Thanks for running events, Mandel, Nate, and Frank/SamY.

Mo wasn’t playing ST last night. I’m not sure if he was there at all. But he did attend the last tournament, which was when he earned his point. Seeing Daikatana at a public gathering was indeed a shock. His game was pretty tight too.

Duh duh DUH! shock

Nate and Pablo were each generous enough to bring an extra TV (and left them there at Zach’s for future use) so that ST could be run more efficiently. Someone else also brought a TV, which meant that there were 5 potential setups (counting Zach’s upstairs but not the wide screen which might lag). The extra TV last night was used by a few people for 3s.

IMHO, the extra TV probably should have been put to use in one of the tournaments. If the tournaments wrap up quicker, then everyone would have the option of playing more casuals afterwards on the plethora of setups. Marvel always gets larger turnouts than CvS2, but CvS2 apparently is a slow ass game that demands more resources. Not sure if there was a second PS2 version of CvS2 in the house though.

ST outdrew all other games last night, so it was a good thing that we had it running on 2 screens. Also, ST is an old game played by old men with strict bedtimes. If Julien doesn’t get a full night’s sleep, his rheumatism gets the better of him. So we tried to speed things up for folks like him. Respect your elders people, especially the really old ones.

I already posted this in Preppy’s thread, but I’ll mention it here so that it catches more eyes. I couldn’t find one of my Dream Connection PSX/PS2 -> DC converters. They have “Innovation” printed on them and look like this. If someone walked off with it or left it in an odd place, please do let me know. They don’t make these anymore, so they’re really hard to replace.

I know I was 2-1 in money matches last night but for the life of me I can’t remember who I played other than losing to Pablo, needless to say, shit was whack.

Oh, and I was supposed to play, I think it was Axel, for five bucks but I don’t remember what happened to that.

I remember you rambling that you lost to Pablo, beat Jetay, and someone else. Don’t remember much more other than you saying you’re too drunk and tired to take the Japanese players home, then walking around for 45 minutes trying to find an alarm clock because your cell batteries were about to die, then driving them home anyway.

If Pablo was publicly intoxicated once more, I’m sorry I missed it.

Julian, you beat me in a money match 2/3 for $1: Boxer VS Grappler

I have a copy of CVS2 for PS2 and so does Zach. I’d bring my PS2 but it’s been know to short out certain PCBs for some reason.

Pablo was not his usual drunken self, he was pretty chill and sitting on the stool the entire time. I expected way more antics.

Also, by the time I drove the Japanese home, I was completely sober, I’ve driven drunk only once in my life and that was me stupidly thinking I needed to go to work, when it was my day off, and work was about 2 miles away…yeah never again. Don’t want to have a reputation as an unsafe drinker, I sobered up really fast last night somehow.

WTF? After only 2 ST tournaments, Julien already holds a lead that can’t be overtaken in a single event? High level ST players from season one should be disgusted with themselves. Nate, Mandel, hang your heads in shame.

And ST outdrawing Marvel!? Sacrilegious! An outrage. More people should be playing Marvel, the preferred game of true, red blooded Americans everywhere. Though the $1 entry fee is no doubt a factor.

Actually, I did have a more meaningful purpose to posting. I noticed that Mandel was listing the top placers of previous tournaments as the seeds for the following tournament, as opposed to having the leaders of the season’s point tallies as the seeds. It’s an interesting and new approach to me. I was wondering whether anyone had thoughts on this matter that they’d care to share.

By using point leaders as seeds, you’d give people an incentive to attend all events and possibly encourage greater attendance. Since there’s no prize at the end of the season (that I’m aware of), it also gives some small meaning to the season’s rankings.

On the flip side, if a select few are running away with the leads towards the end of the season, there will be little fluctuation in seeding for the last few tournaments in the season. Oddly, this was not the case for either of the formats in season one. Marvel was a pretty close race between many people all the way to the finish, and only Nate and Julien really dominated ST (the rest of the field changed leads a lot). But mid level players might be more inclined to show up for events late in the season if it meant that they’d sneak into a high placement and be seeded for the following tournament.

It’s late, and this seemed like as good of a point of discussion as any. Would people care to offer their thoughts on the matter? Is the current form of seeding the top placers from the previous tournament to be applied to all tournaments? Or just Marvel (which Mandel runs)?

I thought it was just odd as hell that I had to face Mandel first round, any system that will put me farther away from the bracket than Mandel gets my stamp of approval. :wasted:

I really got DPed matchup wise with my first two picks of Mandel and Itazan, if I had had as much heart as Pablo I sure would’ve gotten more walkup throws and possibly a really ugly victory, but alas, I don’t have any tight ass tricks like that.

Julian: wassup pablo?!?!

Pablo: WASSUP JULIAN?!?!?!?

5 minutes later

Julian: wassup pablo?!?!

Pablo: WASSUP JULIAN?!?!?!?

…this goes on for like the rest of the night

I should of counted how many times julian requested cheeseburgers. It was also pretty funny when I looked in the fridge and nobody had touched the like 30 coors light. Then I come back and there’s like 5 left and pablo is wasted.

too funny.

i felt good about my performace at the tourny
korea!! korea!! lol @nate & julien B

jtm you are my favorite hongok ^^

I remember watching the Marvel tournament and talking to someone on my right, when I felt a hand fondling my left lamb chop. I checked to make sure where both of my own hands were, then I turn to the left to see Pablo (still with his hand extended). He smiled at me in a creepy way, then tipped his head and raised his eyebrows. It kinda made me uncomfortable.

Rayboy? Nope, doesn’t quite have the same ring to it. Still, good showing last Friday.

Damn.

My luck in marvel amazes me.

I just looked at the brackets to see what matches I missed, you and I played in the second round, so in essence you went out in four because you had a bye in losers too. You had a bye first round, and I played Kuenai in the first round. But yeah, that’s a gross draw. Sounds similar to Gray Fox’s draw of Yosuke/Itazan.

Nate had Keith’s Marvel’s draw from last tourney with all the byes. He had a bye first round, lost to Lawrence, got two more byes before losing to me and getting 9th place.

Nate, good job taking 9th in Marvel. Your Juggernaut is a unstoppable.

Since the next tourney is gonna be on the 5th, I propose that CvS2 is 2/3 winners and 1 match losers. Whatdya think? What format was the winners/losers/grand finals ran in?
