Scrubuki in need of help

hey, I’ve got few questions on some general Ibuki stuff. I’ve been told that some good blockstrings of hers are:

LK --> Mk -> Mk command dash

and MK --> Mk command dash

s.LP --> s.MP --> F+LK

B+mk --> f+Mk

However, I’ve noticed with the first two I sometimes get knocked out of them after the command dash. Is it because im too slow? Probably I guess because sometimes they work, or my throw is teched. :wgrin:

Also, reliable ways to land S.Hk? Would it usually only be after parrying a jump in I guess?

Also, should the lp mp hk c.hk target combo ever be used as a punish? I usually just relly on Mk --> ex spinning kicks as a punsh or mk raida if I feel I won’t whiff raida. Just wondering cuz I noticed most ggpo ibukis do the former instead of the latter.

Also, I notice when I try to crossup with J.mk I sometimes get thrown out when I land…is this a timing issue or am I just a failure?

Matchup wise…I always feel like I’m pretty ignorant about matchups, but the characters who give me the most trouble are Makoto, Yun, Yang, and Oro. Chun-li by default, but for some reason I enjoy fighting that cunt

As for Makoto…do I just never go up in the air? She seems to just ram that dino foot into my face with HK or MK. I try to do the HP --> mk chain on her at times but just fail.

Also, most reliable pokes to use against her besides c.mk? I haven’t figured out what S.mk stuffs so I’ve been relying on f+hk and C.mk before she stuns me. If I am feeling lucky I do s.mp sometimes.

Are far lps reliable to stuff her with, and later throw?

Concerning Yang and Yun:

their dive kicks absolutely rape me for free. They seem to time it well on me so I can’t grab or parry. I think if it hits me above my waist I usually whiff my throws. I whiff a lot of throws usually, but especially against these guys.

Also, Yang seems to bother me more because of my inability to parry his obvious c.mks. I parry his slashes sometimes, but it doesn’t help that I can’t shut down his slashing.

Thanks ahead of time

If the opponent is on the ground you always want to use the LK command dash, not MK. It recovers faster. You’re still technically at a small frame disadvantage even with the LK version, but it’s a larger disadvantage with the MK one.

The only time you want to use MK or HK command dashes is when you juggle the opponent, and you want to go for a mixup.

MK -> EX Spin kicks does the most damage. LP-MP-c.HK-HK does the most stun. The problem with MK->Raida is that you usually don’t get any mixups off it midscreen. The opponent gets up too quickly. But the EX Kicks and launcher combo both let you maintain pressure. Also keep in mind close LP-MP-HP -> EX Kicks/Raida does the same damage as MK -> EX Kicks/Raida anyway, but her close LP is a lot faster startup, so as a punisher it’s just as good.

After j.MK it’s mostly timing. Try LK->MK or c.LP after landing or adjust your timing. Usually LK is pretty good at stuffing throw attempts if your timing isn’t off. Try the crossup a little deeper and get a feel for how soon you can attack on landing.

Nice, I wasn’t even thinking about that. In fact I thought lp mp hp EX spin kicks would damage scale.

Also, yah, for crossups I’ve been using mk and hk command dash. Not enough Lk…so sometimes I get thrown :crybaby:

I went on training mode, and I guess I just need to figure out the timing, and to be consistent in my execution of j.mk as a crossup. I guess if I feel I’ll mess it up i’ll just do lk and if it lands then mk spin kicks.

Another question…is the command dash the most reliable way to keep the pressure going? I have trouble keeping pressure on the opponent, and sometimes spend too much time looking for mistakes, and eventually make one myself :crybaby::crybaby:

Also, any help on those matchups? They give me the most trouble.

Thanks, though :china:

Mainly that target combo is almost impossible for me to land unless its for a punish.

You can watch some matches of me on YouTube getting messed up by NicaKO’s Yang. It’s definitely a matchup that’s in Yang’s favor simply because he’s trying to do damage nearly the same you are except he has better options for doing similar damage. You have no almost no low hit confirms into damage while he has at least 2 really good ways to hit confirm into EX slashes if you aren’t blocking low. This is where his dive kick and command throw games come in to confuse you. Basically to set up more ways to get you with slashes when you commit to blocking low (which is what you should be doing).

I think this is a matchup that nearly forces the Ibuki player to have a solid red parry game. It’s pretty much not even worth it to play the option select guess parry game on Yang unless you have SGGK down or something advanced like that. Low shorts will eat you alive if you’re trying to parry him. I would suggest just waiting out the pressure and get him to burn a couple EXes and then eventually look for space to parry/red parry one of his slashes.

The only videos I’ve seen of Ibuki winning this fight are a couple of Aruka’s videos. Basically he took advantage of the fact that Yang is a lot easier to manage before he gets a lot of meter. If Yang tried to go for low forward into HP slashes he would low block c.MK and then red parry the first slash. Practicing the timing for red parrying slashes after low hits I think is key to getting anywhere in this match once he’s pressuring you. Standard option select parrying before he comits to anything is almost useless IMO. Especially against better players who can see your character moving forward in an attempt to parry high and will instantly react by hitting you low.

Yun plays kinda similarly with his pokes and mind games but he’s a little bit more manageable in the sense of how you fight against him. A good Yun player will use similar Yang style mix ups to do bits and bits of damage to you so that by the time they have Genei Jin…you are already getting low on health and will panic under the pressure and lose the rest of your life. Like the Yang matchup you wanna take advantage early. Learn how to parry dive kicks and punish with close s.HK. That’s like key to stopping obvious dive kick attemps and keeping him more grounded. Yun’s best way of killing you (and the reason it’s Ibuki’s worst match along with Chun) is him getting multiple chances to activate Genei Jin and pressuring you with it until you fold and get hit or get command thrown. Stuff that’s just inherently in his favor and you can’t do a whole lot about other than hitting him before he gets the meter.

You can also use moves like f+HK from a distance to discourage him from using dives to move in closer on you. If he does be comfortable with seeing when you can parry a dive kick and whether you should just block. If you have meter you can also just EX DP one on reaction if you know you’ll hit him before he reaches the ground. When Yun activates Genei Jin from a distance…jump back to the corner and block. Watch for dive kicks to block high but otherwise sit in the corner and block low. If you are about to die or see something obvious like a f+MK or obvious dive kick you can try to parry your way out but it’s always a risk. If you have super meter when he activates Genei Jin from a distance super jump backwards and blast him with HP SA1 to keep him away. He’ll lose half his Genei Jin bar and get pushed back to the end of the screen.

ah…nice those east coast throwdown vids were cool. I liked your evo videos as well.

I guess I’ll have to practice red parrying. I’ve actually red parried the third slash sometimes, but I almost always hesitate…

In fact with Yun im not as scared when I play him because of that jump pack super technique when he genei jins. My problem with the twins is they feel weird when I’m attacking cuz their hitbox seems differen’t. I try to catch them with Hp in the air and then do Mk + raida. However, it sometimes doesn’t go well.

I’ll keep in mind the f+hk. Sometimes I feel like the dive kicks are so deep that I can’t parry em though. I dunno if its just because im afraid.

Also, excuse my noobness, but what is option select parrying? I have heard this being throw around a lot. I’ve even heard that at high level play this is part of a lot of the mixups/mindgames that comes into play. I know about crouch teching and all that but not the parrying bit.

Also, who doesn’t Aruka destroy…I can’t wait for SBO09…can’t wait to see him in action.

option select from what my homie explained to me, is like when you empty jump and grab, u press forward and grab, and if they try to punch you, u just parry it and throw. if they dont do anything, u throw. not sure if its too clear for you.

and about the command dashes, ,yeah just stick to lk, and grab em a few times to set up your super. that imo is the best set up for sa1
