I keep hearing all these people who wouldn’t like a rebalance mostly the pros so I must ask…what percentage of this games population is that actually? Its obvious youve played enough online to realize that their arent many players who can even land the most basic of links online yet capcom catered to the old/pro crowd instead of the newer affectingly diminishing the next generation of would be sf3 players. Cus the small pro/elitist crowd wanted to keep it the same.

There wouldn’t be any tourney scene for SF3, not a lot of the top players will want to play this game when they can play SF4. Why? Because of this game’s crappy balance.

no, what i mean is: seth is no match up… he either gets you and then he destroys you or you might through and finish him. seth players have the most perfects for a reason.

play against some really good seth players and the twins don’t seams so bad anymore.

It’s really up to you to make sure you use risky tacticts when needed and not just spam them mindlessly (AE’s problem). Mindless spamming of safe moves doesn’t show great skill, just shows you can spam harder than the other. A good balance between risk/safe moves is where things balance out. SSFIV was closer to that than AE.

This whole article started as a comment in Dtoid’s Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition review, where I said that 3rd Strike is the most balanced game in the Street Fighter series. As you probably guessed, I was using the word “balance” in a much broader sense than tourney-focused fighting game fans would. Personally, I think that’s the only way to talk about balance, especially in a review that’s written for both fighting game fans and fighting game virgins alike. Generally, balance refers to how much worth each character has in relation to one another. In terms or variety, design, and play style, I think that 3rd Strike has the most balanced cast in the series, which I think applies to everyone, regardless of your level of experience with the series in particular or fighting games in general.

That’s why I’m so sad that many in the fighting game community rely on tier charts or tournament results to tell them what to think. Tier lists aren’t the results of scientifically gathered data, and tourney results aren’t “clean data.”

The DToid guy claims that only tourney results are used, and I’m pretty sure that that isn’t true at all. I mean, I’m sure that tournament matches are taken into consideration, but no one goes to a tournament, makes a list of who got top 8, then goes home to make a tier list.

Not all tier lists are made the same way. Some use tourney results, some use match-up charts/theory fighting, some take both into consideration.

Its meant to be two high level players at the same skill level. So these can be done through testing like getting a bunch of top players for each char and duking it out. Others are based on tourny results and theory fighter. I personally just go by what I see at majors.

I actually agree with some of his sentiments (IV/AE is too young, MvC2 still hasn’t been fully explored), but he’s using the wrong game (3S) to try to make his point.
