Regarding Makoto, I also think was more of - reverting a buff then tax her for being a girl. People did consider she was kinda strong in AE, so Capcom decided to add some nerfs

She wasn’t even as strong as the current top tier is now and got nerfed.

If there was no difference in health rating, I honestly don’t know how to create someone like Gief, I mean the character’s supposed to be mad scary up close so he should be able to take some hits getting in. If his health was average, they’d probably give him some decent get-in tools and his close up game wouldn’t be as powerful as it is now, not as unique or interesting IMO of course.

Also, glass canons will not exist anymore and I LOVE THOSE lol

I don’t play marvel (sold vanilla MvC3, just too crazy for me I guess), but if I ever picked up UMvC3, Phoenix is pretty much a guaranteed team member lol

In Guilty Gear every character does have a wide variety of differing tools, however there are differing staminas as well. I played Millia Rage…great character, but dies easy…then you have Potemkin a giant grappler with the most stamina in the game.

Sometimes Capcom makes weird decisions. Talk about what happned to Honda from Super to AE. And he wasn’t winning anything back then.
Btw, Honda’s health was also nerfed in Super. He had 1100 in vanila. And that was helpfull for trades against shotos and guile. Oh well.

A lot of characters lost health from Vanilla > SSFIV because the overall damage output got a major hit, can you imagine Rufus still having 1150 health? Jesus man that would be so stupid lol , Dhalsim players better just leave the controller when up against him

The fact that he ha 1150 health in the first place was fuckig retarded. It’s not like zoning is a particularly huge issue for him or anything.

Also, IMO despite Akuma getting many nerfs, one of the main reasons he remained top tier in every game is because how everybody else received damage nerfs while his health remained at 850, so he was able to survive more even if he didn’t hit as hard himself anymore.

I think Rufus’ belly by itself should have about 1150 health on its own.

King of Fighters all characters have the same health, big slow guys and fast little girls doesn’t matter. Same health, same stun. In addition, KOF is a lot like SF overall (hence CvS series working so well.)

Health is not a good balance tool as it is too easy to lean on and use an excuse for a character to have extremely limited tools or another character to have a large set of tools. Health itself is also just a boring way to try and balance. Also MikeZ explicitly stated that BigBand would have the same health as everyone else in Skullgirls, though he has plans for that specific character to have ways to buff himself similar to Q in 3rd Strike. Every male character in Skullgirls will have the same health as the female characters assuming any other male characters are added (Beowulf, Stanley, Panzerfaust, ect)

You don’t bring any serious arguments why having different stamina is bad, besides the very generic - is not a good balance tool and is boring.
I beg to differ on both. Wether we like it or not, Akuma is quite well balanced, and him having low health is part of it.

Yes, we could give Akuma 1000 stamina and cut his tools. We could give Dhalsim 1000 stamina and give him an fadcable dp. We could cut Zangief’s health to 1000 and give him akuma’s speed.
And then we would have a boring game.

There’s no reason behind everybody having 1000 health besides: A. buff my character. B. misplaced and uneeded feminist rethoric.

It’s not even really about feminism though, I’m coming from a straight balance perspective: how do Chun Li’s tools merit 900 health? That’s only 50 over what Akuma is sitting on and she doesn’t have half his toolset.

Well, that’s a completelly different thing. I agree Chun li is underpowered and that she needs more tools. Maybe she could get +50 health or better tools (I favour the later).

But then what about Dhalsim ? - everybody cries about Chun li, but nobody mentions Sim, who is arguably worse than Chun. Should we buff his health, too ?

You’re saying that a game with a Zangief that has Akuma’s walkspeed could be boring? Somebody needs to do this in a mod now!

One more thing - isn’t it easier to just give everyone the same stamina ? - is much easier to balance this way. So, ironically I think giving everyone 1000 stamina is a lazy way of balancing.

Sim’s low health is part of his design; a reward for navigated his obstacle course of limbs and fireballs and getting in to kick his pupiless eyes in. I imagine the idea behind Chun’s low health was similar, but her footsies just aren’t nearly potent enough to make up for the discrepancy. Sim’s overall tools are mostly fine, he just needs some more damage to make people respect his zoning more. And maybe a way to more consistently swat dive kicks.

Concerning Chun, she is a charge character like Bison, Guile, Vega and etc, who have at least 1000 health. Then she has the same forward walkspeed like Bison and Vega and a lower backwards walkspeed than Vega. Her throw range is even lower than Vegas for all throws. She has also great footsies like Bison and Vega and her fireball is a bit worse than Dee Jay´s. She is not really a knockdown based char and her presure isn´t like Bison´s oh my time is left, but what I want to tell is that her or nearly all tools can be found at 1000 health chars, the way she plays is very similar to them, but because she is female, she pays the tax. Fuck this inequality.

The problem is - none of the characters you listed have all those tools:

  • Guile has a fireball, but not her walkspeed. Vega and bison have the speed, but not the fireball.

I say we give everybody 1000 health, same walkespeed and a fadcable dp so nobody is discriminated.

Btw, I don’t understand why El fuerte has 900 health. He is low tier, poor defense, low dmg, meh tools. I think that’s a blatant discrimination against mexicans.

Dee Jay with his fireball has by the way the same forward and backward speed like Dictator and still posses the same health like Dictator.
If Bison would get a fireball, do you really think that his health will be lowered(A fireball for a char with situational AAs,)?

There’s nothing to “understand” about Fuerte, he’s a big pile of mistakes lol.
