The reason why the movie tanked was that they had no clue how to market it; After having seen it (on opening day), I can see why. Just watching the different versions of the trailers had it angled as a (romantic) comedy in one, and a visual action movie in another. I’m sure it confused the people who know just about nothing about the graphic novels or video games and were going in expecting one kind of movie, but end up with just a feeling of confusion and sensory overload.
This movie definitely was targeted for our ADD generation, but I think given the material the director did a fantastic job of trying to make his adaptation of the comic as mass-appeal as possible. I can’t see this movie being made any other way.
The soundtrack is also fantastic.
