Congrats on deciding to go with the government that doesn’t represent you and doesn’t care about you. Good choice, we’ve done the same thing in Australia, and we’re currently in the process of getting fucked. If it makes you feel any better, it was also the old people who fucked us over as well, although in our case they used racism and fear of refugees. Don’t worry, when we start mining the Great Barrier Reef for oil is about the time that England will choose that Scotland will get less than twenty percent of the oil revenue, so we can hold hands and complain bitterly.
In a democracy, you get the government you deserve.
Remember, I have been through both the US and the Scottish healthcare systems. I am well aware of the long waits times that dont even meet the govt mandated 4h mimimum. The types of lines you see in the UK would cause shock in the average American. The British people I have met actually brag about the end of life care they give their terminal patients, when it is nothing but hospice. Your NICE regularly dictates that the life-saving or -extending treatments are worth more than the typical patients life. This type of treatment rationing does not happen (yet) in the US, and people would be outraged if the scale of rationing reached the level it is at with NICE. You have got some nerve stating that the US lets people die from lack of medical insurance, when the UK wait times for critical surgeries stretch out into waiting times measured in years. This is unheard of in the US unless you are on some organ donor list. The treatment of terminally patients in the US is without parallel. I thank God that my parents now live in the US. They would be in tough shape relying on what you have back there. They receive state-of-the-art treatment on govt sponsored healthcare for illnesses are considered terminal oversees. The number of uninsured in the US was grossly inflated before Obamacare was instituted. The number on chronically uninsured was around the single digits (which I will concede is still too high). Since Obamacare it doesnt seem to have gone anywhere and some estimates indicate it has increased. And even most of the people who were uninsured were eligible for Govt healthcare. By the way, the US govt spent more per capita than most countries do on healthcare prior to Obamacare despite all the mass media misdirection.
I have also been through the Scottish education system. Let me just say this: because of all the American kids in my primary school, they had to create an advanced section in my class because the Americans were so far ahead of the locals. Now I know other EU countrys’ elementary school rigor may destroy that in the US, but in my experience Scotland was not even close. As far as secondary education, you guys push out PhDs in like 3 yrs. hahaa. It is like 6-7 yr average over here. We had a Scottish postdoc once, and he just didnt know what he was doing. He ended up just leaving before his contract (out of embarrassment I think). I know for a fact they are not all like that, but that doesnt exactly instill confidence in your 2ndary education.
Stop bashing the US in your failed Scottish independence thread.
Wednesday I went to the ER room of one of the hospitals in my city. Got there at 1:20, didn’t see a doctor until 7 something. How about them wait times?
hahaa
Myabe the ER argument was a poor battle to wage. I live in low density area and just go to some walkin clinic instead of ER. They never crowded. I havent been to ER in ages.
I shuold leave this thread alone.
bent.
Islay Scotch the best.
sorry
Your understanding of what a PhD is is broken, as is your notion of a Charles Xavier Medical School for Gifted Americans in Scotland. Please tell me where I can get a PhD in 3 years - it took me 9 years to get a non-academic engineering licence over here…apparently I could have taken the easy way out and just became a doctor 3 times. An American MD is the equivalent of an MB BS in the UK, which is actually a full academic grade lower than a British MD. Likewise, in my own field, an American Aircraft Engineering licence is the equivalent of our Technician’s licence - one full grade below our own engineering licence. That’s a European Standard, not a self-made British Standard, before you accuse us of match-fixing.
As mentioned, Scotland and the rest of the UK is at risk of having its state systems privatized at the moment. This disassembly has meant huge reductions in staffing, equipment and support. In short, the long waits in our hospitals are a direct result of the Americanization of our national health system.
I’m actually one of America’s biggest fans when people aren’t making a pissing contest out of it. Got more Visa stamps for the US than everywhere else combined. Will be in Boston for thanksgiving
Can we talk about Scotland again now? Was kind of the point of this thread lol
First ive heard of Aus being in a bad place, first ive heard Aus has it worst than Scotland. Scotland now ranks below post ISIS victory Iraq/Syria super state.
Also, if they are suffering (ie cancer, terminal illness, lifelong disease) but their insurance doesn’t cover the level of aftercare they need, does that taxpayer cover the gap, to ease their suffering? Or, are they given less substantial aftercare, in the hope that it’s enough?
When you are dying, like fucking dying, and go to the ER, you take precedence over everybody else. They keep you until you are stable. As for terminally ill patients, I’m not Sure the of the specifics
But some get treatment under subsidized medicare, some hospitals pay for your treatment. It’s illegal to let people die, or die miserably in a ER room.
Everybody says US spends billions in military. We spend more on social welfare. Most of it being social security and health care.
The issue is seems really bad because current policies deny anybody who makes a dollar over a pay bracket.
^The issue is that the rich, powerful, and sociopathic are allowed to dictate what’s legal and what’s not.
Representative democracy has failed.
Purge 'em.
@hubcapsignstop
Hey, I’m from the US too. Fuck this country.
Democracy is full of shit when scum like the sort in Congress and the House are allowed to be in office, and not kept in loony bins.
Don’t be a shill. We already have enough of those coming from their side.
Man, i just wrote a whole paragraph on the last page about it lol
Need more? Was featured in another video, but here’s a clip of a Scottish MP getting laughed at for asking if Scotland could get revenue from their own oil:
…oh does Scotland share the same afflication expressed by Canada? It obsession to define itself by being the antithesis of America? Using the term ‘Americanization’ as a political buzzword to herd the sheep? hahaa. How embarrassing.
Most big 10 schools that I am aware of, the large athletic depatments are self-sufficient and separated from the academic departments. These athletic departments are also huge sources of revenue (which is why they typically lobby to keep a barrier in the budget. So while advisors like to complain about the riches of the football program when they get denied for a grant, they are usually just crying lke spoinled brats not getting the taxpayers $$$ they beleive they are entitlted to.
but the loan comment is spot on. The govt is to blame again, not the ‘Americanized’ privitization.
Ugh, no. That’s not why this country is doing bad. I already told you why, and its education, a lack of effort in the behalf of the people to get educated. A statistic you are a part of, if you think you are capable of engineering a better place to live in.
Even though Scotland won’t get revenue from its oil. What’s to keep the local government from telling the south to fuck off. Is it nationalized?
Scotland seems like its in a position that’s about to get it raped bad for trying to separate
