Scientists Say Air Pollution in China resembles a Nuclear Winter, Growth of Food Supply Threatened

The world economy is tied to a model that demands continual and exponential growth, however it seems China is even more vulnerable to this. We’ve all heard for the longest time that the economic bubble in China is dangerously close to popping, pushing for ever more aggressive efforts to increase production regardless of long term consequences.

This pollution illustrates that this model is not only unsustainable from an economic perspective, but an environmental one as well. To my knowledge no one twisted China’s arm and forced them into this situation.

And now the most densely populated country in the world is facing a potential food crisis. It concerns me of the humanitarian costs, but also the political fallout. Famine has the potential to cause wars.

How do we know this isn’t just everyone in China farting at once?

China is made up of Bender and mom’s Robots?

“One child policy” no longer in effect?

That was in the past, and as someone already said, they all drive now. I heard that GM and Ford are doing good over there compared to the US. They really should start adapting to California’s stringent smog requirements and or get into hybrids.

its that or be the third world shit they are/where (mostly still are).

When did you go to Beijing?

I went in January last year and it was pretty intolerable, TBH. I used to think Qingdao air quality was terrible, then I went to Beijing. When I got back, it was like night and day…literally.

fuckin sick ass scifi pics in OP. I’d love to see layered future cities in my lifetime

I think if we’re going to see layered cities any time soon, Japan would be the one to make it happen. As densely populated as it is, they’re the most desperate for space.

I suddenly am thinking of that Deus Ex upper tier city in China

I kinda figured their reliance on coal for power was a huge issue

OMG all that chinese food ruined :(!!!

It’s ok, most of it’s fake or contains heavy metal. They even cheat at food, these days.

Cars only contribute a small portion of the air pollution, the main sources are factories and coal refineries/plants.

HAX and his fellow chinamen are going to doom us all.

I was in Hong Kong/Macau in 2007 or 2008, i didn’t notice the air being bad. If its that bad now, cant imagine 10 years from now.

China has the potential to start World War III.
You can already see the signs of Chinese aggression towards other territories like the Phillipines, Japan, and South Korea over resources in the pacific ocean.

Once China fucks up their own country, nothing else to do except look towards expansion towards greener pastures.

If China went to war, I strongly suspect
A)their citizens would revolt
B)the rest of the world would step up
C)there economy would be gone in a heartbeat and they would quite literally be declaring war on EVERYBODY

Ain’t gonna happen

OK, let me be a little more clear, not hybrids as in fossil fuels/electric, but all electric and or bio-diesel which has zero emissions.

Considering how many people live in China and drive, it’s still enough to be concerned about regardless, but I also agree that O.S.H.A. needs to get more involved with how things are done over there.

You should’ve to be more like Apoc, OG SRK guy!

They have days where they cut back on some factories and taking cars off the roads to try to alleviate the problem temporarily-and in just that small way with a break, which had to be a big deal during the Olympics to make the place look good and habitable for the rest of the world to showcase China for the games. Forgot if humans rights violations/protests/sanctions which didn’t amount to much in terms of changes included air quality at that point, it should’ve, definitely.

This is what happens when no consideration is given to what the end result will be:

Some of you guys also make me laugh when you say that you are glad that you live far away from this so it doesn’t matter to you essentially. I assure you that in the next ten to twenty years it will in some way. The science of “Band-Aid” solutions will only take us so far. We all have to make some harsh choices, whether it’s today or years from now.

At the end of the day, history will speak for itself and it’s not going to be sugar coated in any way…

Remember to dumpster dive behind the Gamestops during PS2 clearance-last chance ever month and take a photo of your collection and put it in every topic!

“Can you believe they were just throwing this stuff away?!”

No but really, Gamestops getting rid of PS2 games had to be tons of plastic/paper/outright throwing out discs. In a landfill near you.
